Description
- This patent application is a continuation-in-part application of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 29/291,464, filed Aug. 29, 2007, which application is incorporated in its entirety here by this reference.
- This invention relates to apparatus for facilitating urination for a woman.
- Under normal circumstances, women, including females of all ages, are able to urinate in the comfort of their residence on a toilet. Under various other circumstances the woman may not be able to use the toilet or may not be in the comfort of her own home. For example, the woman may be in an automobile or in a public area with unsavory bathrooms or the woman may be wearing clothing that is cumbersome or difficult to take off. Current devices may lack the appropriate design for comfort and for minimizing splashing of the discharged urine back on to the woman's body.
- For the foregoing reasons there is a need for a new design that provides comfort and reduces the splashing of urine onto the woman during use.
- The present invention is directed to an apparatus that allows a woman to urinate in various situations without having to sit on a toilet. The personal urinary director comprises a receptacle body having walls that are angled to minimize splashing, an opening to receive the urine, and an orifice to dispense the urine. The opening may be oval in shape. The urinary director may further comprise a tube.

The description sets forth the functions and the sequence of steps for constructing and operating the invention in connection with the illustrated embodiments. It is to be understood, however, that the same or equivalent functions and sequences may be accomplished by different embodiments that are also intended to be encompassed within the spirit and scope of the invention.
- Referring to
FIGS. 1-7 , the present invention is directed towards a personalurinary director 100 for women to facilitate urination by a woman during compromising situations. The personalurinary director 100 comprises areceptacle body 102, an opening 104, anorifice 106 opposite theopening 104. The woman positions thereceptacle body 102 between her legs with the opening 104 directly below her urethra. The discharged urine flows into thereceptacle body 102 and out through theorifice 106. - The
receptacle body 102 is defined by afront wall 108, arear wall 110 opposite thefront wall 108, afirst side wall 112 adjacent to thefront wall 108 and therear wall 110, asecond side wall 114 opposite thefirst side wall 112 and adjacent to thefront wall 108 and therear wall 110, abottom wall 116 adjacent to thefront wall 108, thefirst side wall 112 and thesecond side wall 114. Theopening 104 is defined by atop perimeter edge 118 formed by a top edge of the front wall, a top edge of the rear wall, a top edge of the first side wall, and a top edge of the second side wall. Preferably, the opening 104 is an oval shape. The oval shape provides anarrow receptacle body 102 that can sufficiently cover the woman's genitalia. Thus, it minimizes discomfort to the woman by minimizing the obstruction between her legs while maximizing the probability that the discharged urine will enter theopening 104. The opening 104 may, however, be any other shape that allows thereceptacle body 102 to fit relatively comfortably between the woman's legs. - A
horizontal plane 200 is defined by the top edge of the rear wall, the top edge of the first side wall, and the top edge of the second side wall. In some embodiments, thefront wall 108 descends from thetop perimeter edge 118 at a first angle A relative to thehorizontal plane 200. Thebottom wall 116 descends from the bottom of thefront wall 108 at a second angle B relative to thehorizontal plane 200, wherein the second angle B is greater than the first angle A. Therear wall 110, thefirst side wall 112, and thesecond side wall 114 descend perpendicularly from thetop perimeter edge 118. Therear wall 110, the twoside walls slanted bottom wall 116 converge to form theorifice 106. In other words, theorifice 106 is defined by thelower perimeter edge 120 formed by a bottom edge of thebottom wall 116, therear wall 110, thefirst side wall 112, and thesecond side wall 114. Due to the slanted orangled bottom wall 116, a taper is created from the opening 104 towards theorifice 106. - In some embodiments, the
top perimeter edge 118 curves upwards and away from thehorizontal plane 200, thereby creating anelevated lip 122 at the front end. Theelevated lip 122 helps to reduce any splashing that may try to escape through the front end. - In some embodiments, the personal
urinary director 100 further comprises aflange 124 protruding from thetop perimeter edge 118 extending outwardly away from the opening 104. Theflange 124 provides comfort or reduces discomfort when theurinary director 100 is pressed up against the woman's body. In some embodiments, theflange 124 may be flat. In other embodiments, theflange 124 may be rounded. - In some embodiments, the
urinary director 100 may further comprise aspout 126 extruding out from theorifice 106 to facilitate removal of the urine from thereceptacle body 102. In addition, atube 128 may be inserted into thespout 126 to provide added versatility to the urinary director. - In use, a woman may be in a standing position, for example, in dirty public bathroom where she refuses to sit on the toilet. With one hand, the woman can place the
urinary director 100 between her legs with the opening 104 pressed up against her body such that the opening 104 is directly under the urethra. With the other hand, the woman can place thetube 128 over the toilet. During urination, the urine flows into thereceptacle body 102, out through theorifice 106, and into the toilet via thetube 128. - In some embodiments, the
urinary director 100 may further comprise a lid. The lid may be form fitted to fit around the opening 104 of thereceptacle body 102. The lid may comprise a second orifice configured to tightly receive a free end of thetube 128. When not in use, the free end of thetube 128 may be inserted into the second orifice for storage purposes. The second orifice also provides an advantage in that after the urinary director has been used, inserting the free end of thetube 128 into the second orifice prevents leakage of any remnant urine from thereceptacle body 102 ortube 128 that may otherwise have leaked out. - The
urinary director 100 for women may be used for other purposes to dispense fluids. - Any material may be used to manufacture the
receptacle body 102,tube 128, and lid, such as plastic or rubber, to provide comfort and versatility. - The foregoing description of the preferred embodiment of the invention has been presented for the purposes of illustration and description. It is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise form disclosed. Many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. It is intended that the scope of the invention not be limited by this detailed description, but by the claims and the equivalents to the claims appended hereto.
- This invention may be industrially applied to the development, manufacture, and use of personal urinary director for women comprising a receptacle body having an opening at one end and an orifice at the other to allow for a woman to urinate in non-conventional situations, such as while standing.
