IMPROVEMENT lN FERTILIZER-DROPPERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,837, dated March 5, 1878; application filed August 1, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J. G. MOLTRIP, of Perrysville, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fertilizer-Droppers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain improvements in plaster-droppers; and the invention consists in providing a hopper of suitable construction with a stirrer and adjustable valve, to be secured to a corn-planter, and operated by suitable mechanisms receiving motion from the cornplanter, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction, arrangement, and operation, reference being had, to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a top view with the cover removed. Fig. 2 is a transverse central section, and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section.

A represents the hopper, provided at the bottom with a base, B. Secured to the base in any suitable manner is a bottom plate, 0. Between this plate and the base B is arranged therefrom. The slide is also provided with an extension, D, upon which is arranged a cut-off, consisting of a slotted slide, I, held in place by a set-screw, J, or other suitable device. This slide I is to regulate the amount of fertilizer dropped at each movement of the slide D.

The hopper is placed on a corn-planter in front or behind the corn-hopper, and the slide D connecting with its operating mechanism in any suitable manner, so as to receive a reciprocating movement and drop the plaster in each hill with the corn.

The contents of the hopper are by the stirrer G agitated to prevent any clogging or stopping up of the valve.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a plaster-dropper, the combination of the hopper A, base B, slide-valve D, cut-off I, and bottom plate 0 with the centrally-pivoted stirrer G, having arms H, and connected with the slide D, as shown, for the purpose set forth.

2. The hopper A, base B, having transverse plate F, slide-valve D, bottom plate O, and cut-off I, secured to the slide-extension D, as shown, all combined and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
