Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The invention refers to a storage shelving system including storage racks, especially of metal, each storage rack including several different components.
  • 2. Description of Related Art
  • Storage racks for the storage and filing of objects of different types are mainly offered in home centers. There are a variety of racks or rack systems, the components of which, such as posts, traverses and shelves, are connected in different ways. Such storage racks generally show several posts in the rack comers, to which one or several horizontal shelves are fixed at certain vertical distances by means of traverses. Objects are stored on these shelves.
  • Most of the storage racks offered in home centers are packed together completely, so that the composition of the individual parts is determined and the customer is restricted to it. Often, the components of the storage racks are offered in single parts, so that the customer has to put together the components himself at considerable effort. If these components are stored for a longer period in the home centers, they get dirty, which is not desired by the customer.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • It is the purpose of the invention to create a storage shelving system for the above mentioned storage racks that offers any combination of components for an easy assembly of a storage rack.
  • According to the invention, this purpose is fulfilled by splitting all the necessary components for a storage rack into several different modules, each module showing a certain kind and number of components. The kind and number of the modules can be combined by the customer, as desired, when assembling the storage rack.
  • Thus, with a relatively small number of components, many combinations of storage racks can be put together by the customer himself The result of the storage shelving system, according to the invention, is a clear unit assembly system including a slightly increased number of additional modules that show an increased number of single parts respectively and provide a variety of rack combinations. In this respect, the possible rack combinations depend on the measurements requested by the customer, as well as on the required load bearing capacity, based upon the amount, weight and kind of objects to be stored.
  • According to a further development of the storage shelving system a first module includes a certain number of posts, a second module of a certain number of traverses, and a third module of a certain number of shelves for the assembly of the storage rack. Consequently, three basic modules are available from which a storage rack may be assembled.
  • Furthermore, the posts of the first module for the formation of the first bay of the storage rack, the traverses for the connection of the posts of the first module, and the shelves of the third module and the third module for the formation of the compartments of the storage rack are provided. These three modules allow the assembly of a complete storage rack.
  • An additional advantage of the storage shelving system relates to the fact that at least one additional module together with the first module is provided for the assembly of a further bay of the storage rack. In doing so, a storage rack including two bays can be assembled using the first module and the additional module. If the customer wants a storage rack with a still greater number of bays, he may acquire the corresponding number of additional modules. Furthermore he can buy additional second modules with traverses and third modules with shelves so that the size of the storage rack can be extended.
  • Furthermore the components of each module are available in different sizes and may be combined as needed. Thus, the first module, for example, may be offered with different post lengths, the second module with different traverse widths, and the third module with different widths and length of the shelves. As a result, there is a considerable variety of combinations of the storage racks.
  • Moreover, it is provided that each module is packed completely or partially together with its components. Due to this, the modules are already completely sorted, and moreover, they are protected against dirt or other contaminants.
  • Still other desirable features of the invention will become apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art upon reading and understanding the following detailed description, taken with the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals represent like elements throughout. For example, the present invention may be configured in various configurations, including a stand-along position.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 depicts modules for a storage shelving system of storage racks, in accordance with the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 depicts possible shelf combinations provided by a third module; and
  • FIG. 3 discloses various configurations for the storage racks of the present invention.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • According to FIG. 1, the storage shelving system for storage racks 10 includes various modules 1A, 1B, 2, and 3 having different components, as follows:
  • Module 1A
  • This module contains a number of posts 11 and, if necessary, diagonal braces 12 for the assembly of a first bay of the storage rack 10. Module 1A with posts 11 is offered in different lengths, which means that module 1A contains posts 11 of a certain length ‘x’, for example, 200 cm, or of a certain length ‘y’, for example, 250 cm, etc. The customer may choose the appropriate module 1A with the requested length of posts 11.
  • Module 1B:
  • This module contains a number of posts 11 for the assembly of an additional bay for a storage rack 10. Similar as above, the length of the posts 11 is offered in correspondence to module 1A.
  • Module 2
  • This module contains several traverses 13 for the connection of the posts 11 of module 1A or 1B and the shelves 14 of module 3. As shown in an exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, nine different widths of the traverses 13, ranging from 200 to 1,000 mm are provided, which means that module 2 contains traverses 13 each having a certain width ‘x’, for example, 200 mm, or of a certain width ‘y’, for example, 300 mm, etc.
  • Module 3:
  • This module contains several shelves 14 for the assembly of compartments of the storage rack 10, which can be fixed between the posts 11 of module 1A or 1B and the traverses 13 of module 2. As shown in an exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, three different lengths of the shelves 14, namely, 800 mm, 1,000 mm and 1,200 mm, are provided, which means that module 3 contains shelves 14 of a certain length ‘x’, for example, 800 mm, or of a certain length ‘y’, for example, 1,000 mm, or of a certain length ‘z’, for example, 1200 mm. In addition, there may be differing depths of the shelves 14, such as 200 mm and 300 mm. The depths of the compartments may be combined, as desired, from two or more depths of the shelves, as shown in FIG. 2. Consequently, a depth of the rack of 200 mm to 1,000 mm and more may possible. The shelves 14 having a depth of 200 mm may be loaded with a maximum of 70 kg and the shelves 14 having a depth of 300 mm may be loaded with a maximum of 100 kg.
  • Using the above-mentioned modules 1A, 1B, 2, and 3 a variety of storage rack combinations can be constructed that may fulfill the specific needs of the customer. As a result, various configurations of storage rack 10 may be assembled, as shown in FIG. 3. This may include single, but also multiple storage racks 10, having one or several bays and compartments.
  • The invention has been described with reference to the desirable embodiments. Modifications and alterations will occur to others upon reading and understanding the preceding detailed description. It is intended that the invention be construed as including all such modifications and alterations insofar as they come within the scope of the appended claims or the equivalents thereof.
