IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING-SCALES FOR WEIGHING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,708, dated February 26, 1878; application filed January 23, i878.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that We, JOSEPHA. GEORGE and JOHN S. GEORGE, of Bridgeport, county of Fairlield, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement for Spring- Scales, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to an adjustable pocket spring-scale of neat and compact construction and ready adjustment.
Reference being had to the drawing, Figure 1 is a view of the scale complete, slightly eX- tended. Fig. 2 is asectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a short shell or thimble, open at each end, and provided with a longitudinal slot, a and by means of the slot- 0 the shell can be enlarged at the mouth, and then forced into the shell A, and retain its position by its own tension.
The shell 0 slides through the interior of the thimble B. On the exterior of shell 0 are marked the pounds and divisions of pounds. The end of thiinble B serves as a pointer, to indicate the proper weight. The object of the thimble B is to provide a quick and ready adjustment, as is necessary in spring-scales, owing to the set of the spring from use. One end of the spring is fastened to the bottom of shellO. The other end is fastened to the screw E in top of shell A.
What we claim is- 1. The thimble B, provided with slot a, for the purpose as described and set forth. 2. The combination of shells A and O with thirnble B, slot (1, and spring D, all substantially as described and set forth.
