Description
- The present invention relates to a disposable and collapsible collection bag, tray bag or packaging unit. More particularly, the disposable and collapsible collection bag includes a dispensing bag housing having foldable and pleated walls that expand upon opening into a rigid, free standing collection bag for the holding of goods and products as well as the disposable collection bag to become an individual disposable collection bag for disposing of any debris, garbage, trash, and refuse collected during the course of use.
- Disposable and collapsible bag, containers, and cartons for food establishments, department stores and grocery/food market stores are well known in the art. As well as trash receptacles and trash bags are well known in the art for the collection of trash, debris, garbage and refuse.
- Disposable and collapsible bags or containers for food, establishments need both for the user's hands to carry out the hot and cold food and drinks where such food and drinks are in close proximity to each other.
- Most trash collection bags are made of plastic or paper and have built-in drawstrings for sealing or are sealable by a twist tie. None of these trash collection bags or garbage receptacles have any rigidity. These types of trash collection bags lie flat on the ground or line a trash can until they are stuffed full of garbage to give them a three dimensional shape. Even then, the full trash bags are not freestanding and are not rigid.
- There remains a need for a disposable and collapsible packaging unit/collection bag that has foldable, accordion-like pleats as side walls being positioned in a latitudinal (horizontal) orientation when in an unopened and closed configuration, in which upon expansion each of the foldable and pleated sides expand into an opened and rigid and self-standing configuration such that each of the sides expand into a planar side wall for each foldable, pleated side of the collection bag. Additionally, the disposable and collapsible collection bag would include a disposable insert tray having a plurality of holding compartments therein for holding of food products and drinking cups.
- Disposable and collapsible collection bags, trash receptacles and the like having various designs, configurations, structures and materials of construction have been disclosed in the prior art. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,764,029 to ABBLETT discloses a disposable and collapsible water resistant trash receptacle has a pleated sidewall comprising the side cylindrical portion of the container and a circular bottom attached to the bottom of the cylindrical portion. The upper portion of the sidewall forms an integral lid and has pairs of tie tabs so that when the receptacle is full of trash, the lid is pulled up and the pairs of tie tabs can be tied together to seal off the receptacle when full of trash. The longitudinal pleating and the type of material employed for forming the sidewall gives the receptacle sufficient rigidity so that it is freestanding when in the opened position. Additionally the pleating allows the sidewall to compress inwardly forming a compact, elongate tube for transport and sale. This prior art patent does not disclose or teach the structure of a disposable and collapsible packaging unit having foldable (accordion-like), pleated sides of the present invention.
- U.S. Pat. No. 4,836,367 to GOLKAR discloses a food container formed from a first sheet of paper-board and a second sheet, preferably of an insulating material, the first sheet having side, end, bottom, and top wall portions, foldable relative to one another, and attachable at selected locations, to form an enclosure, with the second sheet thermally subdividing the enclosure to form two separated compartments therein. The second sheet lies in a plane generally perpendicular to the bottom of the container, with a handle portion of the second sheet coacting with a handle portion of the first sheet to provide a carrying handle for the container. This prior art patent does not disclose or teach the structure of a disposable and collapsible packaging unit having foldable (accordion-like), pleated sides of the present invention.
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,060,850 to WEAVER discloses a bag-like foldable carton for carrying articles, particularly fast food and drink products, is provided. The carton comprises a pair of side panel groups, with a bottom panel group integrally formed with and extending between the side panel groups. The bottom panel group is joined to the side panel groups at a pair of opposed parallel bottom fold lines at opposite edges thereof and includes a main bottom panel and a pair of gusseted bottom closure panels. This prior art patent does not disclose or teach the structure of a disposable and collapsible packaging unit having foldable (accordion-like), pleated sides of the present invention.
- U.S. Publication No. 2003/0136787 to SINGUILLO discloses a self-standing disposable receptacle comprises a bin fabricated from disposable material which is rigid enough to be self standing. A plastic sheath is attached to either the inner or outer wall surfaces of the bin. The plastic sheath is provided with handles so that the receptacle may be tied when filled. This prior art publication does not disclose or teach the structure of a disposable and collapsible packaging unit having foldable (accordion-like), pleated sides of the present invention.
- None of the aforementioned prior art references teach or disclose a disposable and collapsible packaging unit having accordion-like foldable, pleated sides that expand into a planar side surface wall for each foldable side of the collection bag, such that the collection bag expands into a self-standing and rigid configuration for operational use thereof.
- Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that has foldable, accordion-like pleats as side walls that are positioned in a latitudinal (horizontal) orientation when in an unopened and closed configuration.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that expands its foldable, accordion-like pleated side walls from an unopened and closed configuration to an opened, rigid and self-standing configuration such that each of the side walls have expanded into a planar side wall of the self-standing collection bag.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that includes a pair of opposing handles mounted to a perimeter edge of opposing pleated side walls, respectively, or includes handle openings on opposing pleated side walls.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that includes a disposable insert tray having a plurality of holding compartments therein for holding of food products and drinking cups.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that can have various geometric shapes such as a rectangle, a square, an oval, a circle, a triangle, a trapezoid, a polygon and other geometric shapes.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit which is of a durable and reliable construction while in use, and easy to use at restaurants, fast food restaurants, airplanes, hotels, hospitals, movie theatres, schools, universities, plants, homes or offices.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that can be utilized as a trash can and/or trash bag simultaneously or separately.
- A further object of the present invention is to provide a disposable and collapsible packaging unit that can be mass-produced in an automated and economical manner and is readily affordable by the consumer.
- In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a disposable and collapsible collection bag for holding of products, goods, foods as well as for collecting and disposing of garbage, debris, trash or refuse. The collection bag includes a bag housing having a bottom wall and a plurality of side walls attached thereto for forming an interior compartment for holding and collecting of products, food items and/or refuse. Each of the side walls include an upper perimeter edge; wherein opposing upper perimeter edges on the respective side walls include handle grips for the collection bag. Further, each of the side walls have foldable, accordion-like pleats, the pleats are positioned in a latitudinal (horizontal) orientation when in an unopened and closed configuration. The foldable, accordion-like pleated side walls are moveable from the closed configuration to an expanded, opened, rigid and self-standing configuration, such that each of the pleated side walls have expanded into a plurality of substantially planar side walls of the self-standing collection bag.
