  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • Board games have long been used for entertainment and education. Games involving strategic placement of game tokens on a patterned board have been particularly popular. As long as individuals continue to enjoy leisure time, a demand for such games will continue, and challenging, new forms of games will be desired. The present invention provides both a desirable and challenging leisure time diversion board game suitable for two or four players. If two players are playing, each player receives ten game tokens. If four players are playing, each player receives five game tokens. The game tokens assigned to each player can be identical. The game tokens of opposing players should be distinguishable based on any or all of the following recognizable attributes including size, shape, color and design and or a combination of any of the preceding attributes. The game tokens should be of a size and shape to rest against the game board and substantially occupy the vertices of the game board. The game board has a pattern which is comprised of three concentric parallelograms of increasing perimeter with identical aspect ratios and orientations connected by eight lines with intersections defining twenty-four vertices. The four lines connecting the respective corners of the concentric parallelograms form twelve vertices, and four lines bisecting the respective sides of the parallelograms so that the connecting lines are equidistant from the terminus of each respective side to form the remaining twelve vertices. In one embodiment of the present game, it is the objective of the game using the above described game board to achieve a configuration of game tokens in which the player's game tokens occupy all three vertices of a single line connecting the three concentric parallelograms, all three vertices of one side on a single parallelogram, or any three adjacent vertices regardless of whether the game tokens are in a linear configuration. Initial play begins with one player placing one of his game tokens on any open vertice. A placed game token occupies the chosen vertice of the game board. The other player then places one of his game tokens on any one of the open vertices on the game board. The players continue to alternate game token placement until all twenty game tokens have been placed by both players. During initial game token placement, both players attempt to place their game tokens in configurations in which the player's game tokens occupy all three vertices of a single line connecting the three concentric parallelograms. Strategically, both players also use game token placement on open vertices to block the opposing player from achieving the three-in-a-line configuration. In this way, the game is similar to the children's game “Tic-Tac-Toe.” Upon achieving the objective configuration, the player removes his configured pieces and is allowed to move one game token to again achieve the desired three in a row configuration. Strategic play continues after all player game tokens have been placed in play on the game board. The players then take turns strategically moving their respective game tokens to achieve further desired configurations thereby reducing their respective game tokens. The winner is declared upon reaching less than three game tokens.
  • In another embodiment, each player attempts to place his or her assigned game tokens so that three game tokens form a straight line either on three vertices of a single connecting line or on three vertices on any single side of one of the concentric parallelograms. In this embodiment, when one player achieves one of the desired configurations, that player removes one game token of each opposing player. When all of a player's game tokens have been removed, the game is over for that player. A winner is declared when one player has removed all opposing players' game tokens.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals designate identical or corresponding parts throughout the several views, FIG. 1 discloses and describes a patterned game board 12 in which an inner parallelogram 1 is concentric with both a middle parallelogram 2 and an outer parallelogram 3. The inner parallelogram 1, middle parallelogram 2 and outer parallelogram 3 have identical aspect ratios and are arranged and oriented so that no side of the inner parallelogram 1 intersects any side of either the middle parallelogram 2 or outer parallelogram 3, so that no side of the middle parallelogram 2 intersects any side of either the outer parallelogram 3 and so that the middle parallelogram 2 has a larger perimeter than that of the inner parallelogram 1 and the outer parallelogram 3 has a larger perimeter than that of the middle parallelogram 2. The inner parallelogram 1, middle parallelogram 2 and outer parallelogram 3 are connected in a two-dimensional plane via connecting lines 4. A total of eight connecting lines 4 each intersecting the inner parallelogram 1 once, the middle parallelogram 2 once and the outer parallelogram 3 once create twenty-four open vertices 5. One connecting line 4 passes through the top right corner of the inner parallelogram 1, middle parallelogram 2 and outer parallelogram 3 and creates three open vertices 5. Another connecting line 4 passes through the lower right corner of the inner parallelogram 1, middle parallelogram 2 and outer parallelogram 3 and creates three additional open vertices 5. Yet another connecting line 4 passes through the lower left corner of the inner parallelogram 1, middle parallelogram 2 and outer parallelogram 3 and creates three additional open vertices 5. Still another connecting line 4 passes through the upper left corner of the inner parallelogram 1, middle parallelogram 2 and outer parallelogram 3 and creates three additional open vertices 5. A connecting line 4 connects the top side of the inner parallelogram 1 with the top side of the middle parallelogram 2 and the top side of the outer parallelogram 3, creating three open vertices 5. Another connecting line 4 connects the bottom side of the inner parallelogram 1 with the bottom side of the middle parallelogram 2 and the bottom side of the outer parallelogram 3, creating three open vertices 5. Another connecting line 4 connects the right side of the inner parallelogram 1 with the right side of the middle parallelogram 2 and the right side of the outer parallelogram 3, creating three open vertices 5. Another connecting line 4 connects the left side of the inner parallelogram 1 with the left side of the middle parallelogram 2 and the left side of the outer parallelogram 3, creating three open vertices 5. Another connecting line 4 connects the top side of the inner parallelogram 1 with the top side of the middle parallelogram 2 and the top side of the outer parallelogram 3, creating three open vertices 5, for a total of twenty-four.
  • The game can be played with either two or four players. FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the present game played with two players. If played with two players, each player is assigned ten game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 that can be identical, but that are distinguishable from the other player's game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51. FIG. 6 shows an embodiment of the present game played with four players. If played with four players, each player is assigned five game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 that can be identical but that are distinguishable from the other players' game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51. The game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 should be of a size and shape to rest against the game board 12 and substantially occupy the vertices of the game board 12. Although not shown, it is within the scope of the present invention that various means may be used to attach, engage or fix the game tokens to the playing surface of game board 12 which may include Velcro, magnets or adhesives.
  • FIG. 7 gives an example of four styles of game tokens that could be assigned to four players and used with the present invention; player A game tokens 21, player B game tokens 31, player C game tokens 41 and player D game tokens 51. These game tokens 21, 31, 41 and 51 are visually distinguishable by shape.
  • When the game commences, the game board 12 is void of game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51. In turn, each player puts his or her assigned game token 21, 31, 41 or 51 on an open vertice 5 until all game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 have been placed on the game board 12. Once one game token 21, 31, 41 or 51 is placed on an open vertice 5, it is an occupied vertice 6 and no additional game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 may be placed on that vertice by any player until the game token 21, 31, 41 or 51 is removed, causing the occupied vertice 6 to become an open vertice 5. During initial placement, both players attempt to place their game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 in configurations in which the player's game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 occupy all three vertices of a single connecting line 4 of the three concentric parallelograms as illustrated in FIG. 3 with player A game tokens 21, the three vertices on one side of a single parallelogram 1, 2 or 3 as illustrated in FIG. 4 with player A game tokens 21 on any three adjacent vertices as illustrated in FIG. 5 with player A game tokens 21, depending on the particular embodiment of game play. Strategically, both players also use game token placement on open vertices 5 to block the opposing player from achieving placement of three game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 on adjacent vertices. At this point, there may be twenty game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 situated on the game board 12 at occupied vertices 6 and four open vertices 5, depending on how many game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 have been removed as a result of a player achieving one of the desired configurations.
  • After all game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 have been placed, one player, in turn, moves one of his or her assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 to an open vertice 5 adjacent to the occupied vertice 6 that the game token 21, 31, 41 or 51 is presently occupying. The next player in turn does the same with his or her assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51, and if four players are participating, the remaining players move their assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 in their respective order of play. This cycle of players moving their assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 to adjacent open vertices 5 is repeated until one player has positioned three of his or her assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 on three consecutive vertices of a connecting line 4, along one side of a single parallelogram 1, 2 or 3 or on any three adjacent vertices or on any three adjacent vertices, at which point the player removes his configured pieces and is allowed to move one game token 21, 31, 41 or 51 in an attempt to again achieve one of the desired configurations. The players then take turns strategically moving their respective game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 to achieve further desired configurations and continue removing game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 when the desired configuration is achieved, thereby reducing their number of respective game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 present on the game board 12. The first player with less than three game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 remaining on the game board 12 is declared the winner.
  • In another embodiment, each player attempts to place his or her assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 so that three of that player's assigned game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 form a straight line either on three vertices of a single connecting line 4 or on three vertices on any single side of one of the concentric parallelograms 1, 2, or 3. The players strategically place their respective game tokens 21, 31, 41 or 51 to achieve the desired configurations and to block other players from doing the same. In this embodiment, when one player achieves one of the desired configurations, that player removes one game token 21, 31, 41 or 51 of each opposing player. When all of a player's game tokens have been removed, the game is over for that player. A winner is declared when one player has removed all opposing players' game tokens.
