Abstract
Accessory for displaying objects. A flexible bottom piece is attached to a flexible top piece having cut out windows for displaying the objects. An ornamental piece is attached to the top piece and has cut out windows larger than the windows of the top piece and in registry with the windows of the top piece so that the portion of the top piece defining the windows of the top piece is visible through the windows of the ornamental piece. A fastener allows the accessory to be secured.
Description
- The present invention relates generally to an accessory having at least one window for the display of articles such as pictures, drawings or other two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects.
- The practice of displaying objects, e.g, pictures or photos in jewelry articles and other accessories has long been known. This usually requires measuring the compartment into which the picture will be inserted and precisely cropping the picture to the exact dimensions of the compartment because cropping irregularities may be visible. In addition, the way the objects need to be inserted often requires partial dismantlement of a fragile item or may require sliding the object, e.g., a picture or photo into a tight pocket which can result in bending of the photo or other damage to the object to be displayed.
- The recent expansion of picture technology has called for a more flexible type of photo display accessory. For example, the growing phenomenon of camera phones and mini cameras which create low definition images that are not suitable for big format prints have given rise to the need for a more readily usable kind of accessory adapted to the new miniature photo format that they generate. In addition, because of its stylish appearance, this accessory appeals to a broad range of people and particularly to younger consumers.
- The present invention comprises an accessory where pictures, photos or other two-dimensional and three-dimensional visuals can be displayed by simply inserting them in between two pieces of material without having to precisely crop them to give them a particular size so that they will present a finished border. In one embodiment of the invention, the lack of a separation between the different windows of the accessory also allows for greater flexibility and provides more options with respect to the type of pictures, photos or objects that may be inserted. Because a single long visual or object can be displayed in the accessory a panoramic effect is created.

For purposes of the present invention, an accessory means an item worn in conjunction with another item or attached to another item or complementing it such as a fashion accessory including, e.g., a belt, jewelry such as a wrist or ankle bracelet or a choker, or a necklace, or a guitar strap or suspenders.
- In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the accessory is a wrist or ankle cuff bracelet. For purposes of the present invention, a cuff wrist or ankle bracelet means a bracelet consisting of a strip of flexible material which wraps around and is secured around the wrist or the ankle. Flexible material refers to a supple, bendable material such as, for example, leather, vinyl, naugahyde, plastic or fabric or fiber.
- As shown in
FIGS. 1-4 , theaccessory 15 for displaying objects is comprised of abottom piece 16 of flexible material having alength 17 and width 18, afirst end 19 and asecond end 20, a firstmajor surface 21 and a secondmajor surface 22. Atop piece 23 of flexible material has alength 24 and width 25, afirst end 26 and asecond end 24, a firstmajor surface 28 and a secondmajor surface 29, and one or more cut outwindows 30. The one or more cut outwindows 30 can be of any shape or size appropriate to display the objects. Thetop piece 23 is attached to thebottom piece 16 so as to provide anaccessory 15 having afirst end 31 and asecond end 32 and displayspace 33 between the secondmajor surface 29 of thetop piece 23 and the firstmajor surface 21 of thebottom piece 16 for displaying objects through the one or more cut outwindows 30. Thetop piece 23 may be attached to thebottom piece 16 by using, e.g., glue, rivets, or staples, however in a preferred embodiment a plurality ofsewing stitches 34 is utilized. Thedisplay space 33 is accessed by pulling thebottom piece 16 in a direction away from thetop piece 23 as shown inFIG. 2 . The objects to be displayed can then be inserted into thedisplay space 33 of theaccessory 15 when theaccessory 15 is in the open position as shown inFIG. 2 , i.e., when the first 51 and second 52 portions of thefastener 50 are not engaged with each other. The inserted objects to be displayed are held in place by friction between the firstmajor surface 21 of thebottom piece 16 and the secondmajor surface 29 of thetop piece 23. Such friction between thetop 23 andbottom 16 pieces of theaccessory 15 allows the objects to be held securely in place when the accessory is in a closed position as shown inFIG. 5 . - In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the
top piece 23 is provided with at least three cut outwindows 30 and thefirst end 19 of thebottom piece 16 is attached to thefirst end 26 of thetop piece 23 and thesecond end 20 of thebottom piece 16 is attached to thesecond end 27 of thetop piece 23 so as to form anundivided display space 33 between the secondmajor surface 29 of thetop piece 23 and the firstmajor surface 21 of thebottom piece 16 for displaying objects through the at least three cut outwindows 30. In a preferred embodiment, thebottom piece 16 of the accessory is attached to thetop piece 23 by a first row ofstitches 38 sewn along the width 18 of thefirst end 19 of thebottom piece 16 and a second row ofstitches 39 sewn along the width 18 of thesecond end 20 of thebottom piece 16 as shown inFIG. 4 . - The accessory may be provided with a flexible
ornamental piece 40 having alength 41 andwidth 42 and a firstmajor surface 43 and a second major surface 44. The second major surface 44 of theornamental piece 40 is attached to the firstmajor surface 28 of thetop piece 23. Theornamental piece 40 has awidth 42 that is less than the width 25 of thetop piece 23 and alength 41 that is less than thelength 24 of thetop piece 23 and is provided with one or more cut outwindows 45 equal in number to and larger than the cut outwindows 30 of thetop piece 23. The cut outwindows 45 of theornamental piece 40 are disposed substantially in registry with the cut outwindows 30 of thetop piece 23 so that the firstmajor surface 28 thetop piece 23 defining each of the cut outwindows 30 of thetop piece 23 is visible through each of the cut outwindows 45 of theornamental piece 40. Thetop piece 23,bottom piece 16, andornamental piece 40 may be made from a variety of materials suitable for this purpose, however, in a preferred embodiment material selected from the group consisting of leather, vinyl, naugahyde, plastic and fiber is utilized. Aprotective piece 46 of clear material having a firstmajor surface 47 and a secondmajor surface 48 may optionally be disposed between the secondmajor surface 29 of thetop piece 23 and the firstmajor surface 21 of thebottom piece 16 for protecting objects displayed in thedisplay space 33. Theprotective piece 46 is preferably comprised of flexible material and may optionally be secured to thetop piece 23 by applyingglue 49 between portions of the secondmajor surface 29 of the top piece and the firstmajor surface 47 of theprotective piece 46. - A
fastener 50 may be disposed on theaccessory 15 for securing thefirst end 31 of theaccessory 15 to thesecond end 32 of theaccessory 15 or for securing theaccessory 15 to other fasteners or to other objects. The fastener of the accessory is preferably selected from the group consisting of Velcro®, belts, buckles, hooks, buttons, ribbons, snaps, chains, and magnets.
