Abstract
A drain assembly includes a cup connected to the sink and having an extension tube. A seal and an urging ring are mounted to the cup from the underside of the cup. A positioning plate is fixed to the cup and the extension tube extends through a central hole of the positioning plate. A plurality of bolts extend through the positioning plate and contact against the urging ring. A filtering seal device is connected to the cup. A connector is fixed to the extension tube and a positioning member is threadedly connected to the extension tube of the cup. The positioning member is engaged with the central hole of the positioning plate. By the engagement of the positioning member and the positioning plate, the assembler can quickly position the drain assembly.

- The present invention relates to a drain assembly which is easily to be installed and trash is not trapped in the drain assembly.
- A conventional drain assembly 1 is shown in
FIG. 1 and generally includes acup 11, aseal 12, anurging ring 13, apositioning plate 14, aconnector 15 and a filtering seal device. Thecup 11 includes aflange 111 so as to be connected to a top surface of thesink 4 and anextension tube 112 extends from an underside of thecup 11. Theextension tube 112 includes an outer threadedperiphery 113 such that theseal 12 and theurging ring 13 are respectively connected to the outer periphery of thecup 11 from an underside of thecup 11. Thepositioning plate 14 includes a hole through which theextension tube 112 extends and a plurality ofbolts 141 connected to thepositioning plate 14 so as to be in contact with theurging ring 13. Theconnector 15 is connected to the sewage pipe (not shown) and theextension tube 112. Apositioning ring 151 is connected to theconnector 15 to positioning the sewage pipe. The filtering seal device includes abasket 161, arubber seal 162, apull section 163 and arod 164. Therubber seal 162 is connected to an underside of thebasket 161 and fixed to therod 164 on which thepull section 163 is connected. When installing the drain assembly 1, thepositioning plate 14 has to be fixed to a proper position of theextension tube 112 and thebolts 141 are then rotated to contact against theurging ring 13 such that the drain assembly 1 is fixed to thesink 4. However, it is in convenient for the installers to operate when installing thepositioning plate 14. - As shown in

FIGS. 3 and 4 , thedrain assembly 3 of the present invention comprises acup 31 including aflange 311 which is connected to thesink 4 and anextension tube 312 extends from an underside of thecup 31. Theextension tube 312 has an outer threadedperiphery 313 and abottom plate 314 is connected to a lower end thereof and a plurality ofholes 315 are defined through thebottom plate 314 so that water and debris flow through theholes 315. Aseal 32 and anurging ring 33 are mounted to thecup 31 from the underside of thecup 31 and located to an underside of theflange 311. - A
positioning plate 35 is fixed to thecup 31 and has acentral hole 351 through which theextension tube 312 extends. A plurality ofbolts 352 extend through thepositioning plate 35 and contact against theurging ring 33. - A
connector 36 is threadedly connected to theextension tube 312 and apositioning ring 361 is connected to an underside of theconnector 36 so that the sewage pipe (not shown) can be positioned with thepositioning ring 361. - A
filtering seal device 37 is connected to thecup 31 and includes abasket 371, arubber seal 372 and arod 373 which extends through thebasket 371 and is connected to therubber seal 372. The rod 273 can be composed of two parts which are threadedly connected with each other. The rod 273 includes a narrowdistal end 374 which can be inserted into one of theholes 315 in the center of thebottom plate 314 of thecup 31. - A
positioning member 34 has an inner threadedperiphery 341 which is threadedly connected to the outer threadedperiphery 313 of theextension tube 312. Thepositioning member 34 is sized such that it is engaged with thecentral hole 351 of thepositioning plate 35. Further referring toFIG. 5 , a plurality of recesses are defined in an inner periphery of thecentral hole 351 of thepositioning plate 35 and thepositioning member 34 has a plurality ofprotrusions 342 extending radially outward from an outer periphery thereof. When connecting thepositioning member 34 and thepositioning plate 35, theprotrusions 342 of thepositioning member 34 extend through the recess of thepositioning plate 35 and are rotated an angle such that theprotrusions 342 of thepositioning member 34 are supported on the inner periphery of thecentral hole 351 of thepositioning plate 35. Thepositioning member 34 and thepositioning plate 35 can be made as one piece or in separate. - When installing the
drain assembly 3, theseal 32 and thepositioning member 34 are mounted to thecup 31 and thepositioning plate 35 is mounted to theextension tube 312 to be engaged with thepositioning member 34 as described hereinabove. Thebolts 352 are then rotated to contact against theurging ring 33. Thepositioning ring 361 is then connected to theconnector 36 which is fixed to theextension tube 312. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , when the user wants to seal thedrain assembly 3 to store water in thesink 4, therubber seal 372 of theseal device 37 is used to seal the inner periphery of the extendingtube 312 so that water can be stored in thesink 4. When the user wants to filter the goods soaked in the water and drain the water, theseal device 37 is pulled upward as shown inFIG. 7 , the water drains from theextension tube 312 and the goods is filtered via thebasket 371. - As shown in
FIG. 8 , which shows another embodiment of thedrain assembly 3, the difference between the embodiment inFIG. 8 and the drain assembly inFIG. 4 is that theextension tube 316 extending from the under side of thecup 31 includes a smooth outside and the positioningmember 34 has a pre-set length and is glued or welded to the outside of. The positioningmember 38 includes an outer threadedperiphery 382 and theconnector 36 is threadedly connected to the outer threadedperiphery 382 and thepositioning ring 361 is connected to theconnector 36. The positioningmember 34 includesprotrusions 381 extending outward from an top thereof and thecentral hole 351 of thepositioning plate 35 includes recesses defined in an inner periphery thereof so that theprotrusions 381 are moved through the recesses and rotated an angle to connect the positioningmember 38 to thepositioning plate 35. - The
drain assembly 3 includes the positioningmember 34 which is located at outside of theextension tube 312 and thepositioning plate 35 includes acentral hole 351 which is easily engaged with the positioningmember 34 so that the installers can quickly position thedrain assembly 3. The positioningmember 34 can be made by linear press-cutting or linear cutting and the positioningmember 34 is fixed to theextension tube 312 by gluing or welding. The installers can quickly connect thepositioning plate 35 to the positioningmember 34. Because theextension tube 312 is positioned by using thepositioning member 34 and thepositioning plate 35, so that the inner periphery of theextension tube 312 can be smooth which does not trap debris of goods. - While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
