Abstract

A drain assembly includes a cup connected to the sink and having an extension tube. A seal and an urging ring are mounted to the cup from the underside of the cup. A positioning plate is fixed to the cup and the extension tube extends through a central hole of the positioning plate. A plurality of bolts extend through the positioning plate and contact against the urging ring. A filtering seal device is connected to the cup. A connector is fixed to the extension tube and a positioning member is threadedly connected to the extension tube of the cup. The positioning member is engaged with the central hole of the positioning plate. By the engagement of the positioning member and the positioning plate, the assembler can quickly position the drain assembly.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a drain assembly which is easily to be installed and trash is not trapped in the drain assembly.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • A conventional drain assembly 1 is shown in FIG. 1 and generally includes a cup 11, a seal 12, an urging ring 13, a positioning plate 14, a connector 15 and a filtering seal device. The cup 11 includes a flange 111 so as to be connected to a top surface of the sink 4 and an extension tube 112 extends from an underside of the cup 11. The extension tube 112 includes an outer threaded periphery 113 such that the seal 12 and the urging ring 13 are respectively connected to the outer periphery of the cup 11 from an underside of the cup 11. The positioning plate 14 includes a hole through which the extension tube 112 extends and a plurality of bolts 141 connected to the positioning plate 14 so as to be in contact with the urging ring 13. The connector 15 is connected to the sewage pipe (not shown) and the extension tube 112. A positioning ring 151 is connected to the connector 15 to positioning the sewage pipe. The filtering seal device includes a basket 161, a rubber seal 162, a pull section 163 and a rod 164. The rubber seal 162 is connected to an underside of the basket 161 and fixed to the rod 164 on which the pull section 163 is connected. When installing the drain assembly 1, the positioning plate 14 has to be fixed to a proper position of the extension tube 112 and the bolts 141 are then rotated to contact against the urging ring 13 such that the drain assembly 1 is fixed to the sink 4. However, it is in convenient for the installers to operate when installing the positioning plate 14.
  • As shown in FIG. 2, another drain assembly 2 includes a cup 21, a seal 22, an urging ring 23, a positioning plate 24, a connector 25 and a filtering seal device 26. The cup 21 includes a flange 211 so as to be connected to a top surface of the sink and an extension tube 212 extends from an underside of the cup 21. The extension tube 212 includes an outer threaded periphery 213 and the cup 21 includes a plurality of recesses 214 defined in an inner periphery thereof so as to define protrusions on the outer periphery of the cup 21. The seal 22 and the urging ring 23 are respectively connected to the outer periphery of the cup 21 from an underside of the cup 21. The positioning plate 24 includes a hole through which the extension tube 212 extends and a plurality of notches 241 are defined in an inner periphery or the positioning plate 24 and the notches 241 are located in correspondence with the protrusions on the cup 21. A plurality of bolts 242 are connected to the positioning plate 14 so as to be in contact with the urging ring 23. The connector 25 is connected to the sewage pipe (not shown) and the extension tube 212. A positioning ring 251 is connected to the connector 25 to positioning the sewage pipe. The filtering seal device 26 includes a basket 261, a rubber seal 262, a pull section 263 and a rod 264. The rubber seal 262 is connected to an underside of the basket 261 and fixed to the rod 264 on which the pull section 263 is connected.
  • When installing the drain assembly 2, the positioning plate 24 is mounted to the cup 21 with the notches in alignment with the protrusions on the cup 21 and the positioning plate 24 is then rotated to let the protrusions support the positioning plate 24. The bolts 241 are then rotated to contact against the urging ring 23 such that the drain assembly 2 is fixed to the sink. Nevertheless, the recesses 214 in the cup 21 trap trash therein and are not easily to remove the trash.
  • The present invention intends to provide a drain assembly which is easily to be installed and cleaned.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a drain assembly which comprises a cup connected to the sink and an extension tube extends from an underside of the cup. A seal and an urging ring are mounted to the cup from the underside of the cup. A positioning plate is fixed to the cup and has a central hole through which the extension tube extends. A plurality of bolts extend through the positioning plate and contact against the urging ring. A filtering seal device is connected to the cup and includes a basket, a rubber seal and a rod which extends through the basket and is connected to the rubber seal. A connector is fixed to the extension tube so as to be connected with a sewage tube. A positioning member is threadedly connected to the extension tube and engaged with the central hole of the positioning plate.
  • The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.

  • FIG. 5 shows a top view of the engagement of the positioning plate and the positioning member;
  • FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view to show the rubber seal seals the cup;
  • FIG. 7 shows that the filtering seal device is pulled upward and the rod is engaged with the hole of the cup, and
  • FIG. 8 shows another embodiment of the drain assembly.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, the drain assembly 3 of the present invention comprises a cup 31 including a flange 311 which is connected to the sink 4 and an extension tube 312 extends from an underside of the cup 31. The extension tube 312 has an outer threaded periphery 313 and a bottom plate 314 is connected to a lower end thereof and a plurality of holes 315 are defined through the bottom plate 314 so that water and debris flow through the holes 315. A seal 32 and an urging ring 33 are mounted to the cup 31 from the underside of the cup 31 and located to an underside of the flange 311.
  • A positioning plate 35 is fixed to the cup 31 and has a central hole 351 through which the extension tube 312 extends. A plurality of bolts 352 extend through the positioning plate 35 and contact against the urging ring 33.
  • A connector 36 is threadedly connected to the extension tube 312 and a positioning ring 361 is connected to an underside of the connector 36 so that the sewage pipe (not shown) can be positioned with the positioning ring 361.
  • A filtering seal device 37 is connected to the cup 31 and includes a basket 371, a rubber seal 372 and a rod 373 which extends through the basket 371 and is connected to the rubber seal 372. The rod 273 can be composed of two parts which are threadedly connected with each other. The rod 273 includes a narrow distal end 374 which can be inserted into one of the holes 315 in the center of the bottom plate 314 of the cup 31.
  • A positioning member 34 has an inner threaded periphery 341 which is threadedly connected to the outer threaded periphery 313 of the extension tube 312. The positioning member 34 is sized such that it is engaged with the central hole 351 of the positioning plate 35. Further referring to FIG. 5, a plurality of recesses are defined in an inner periphery of the central hole 351 of the positioning plate 35 and the positioning member 34 has a plurality of protrusions 342 extending radially outward from an outer periphery thereof. When connecting the positioning member 34 and the positioning plate 35, the protrusions 342 of the positioning member 34 extend through the recess of the positioning plate 35 and are rotated an angle such that the protrusions 342 of the positioning member 34 are supported on the inner periphery of the central hole 351 of the positioning plate 35. The positioning member 34 and the positioning plate 35 can be made as one piece or in separate.
  • When installing the drain assembly 3, the seal 32 and the positioning member 34 are mounted to the cup 31 and the positioning plate 35 is mounted to the extension tube 312 to be engaged with the positioning member 34 as described hereinabove. The bolts 352 are then rotated to contact against the urging ring 33. The positioning ring 361 is then connected to the connector 36 which is fixed to the extension tube 312.
  • Referring to FIG. 6, when the user wants to seal the drain assembly 3 to store water in the sink 4, the rubber seal 372 of the seal device 37 is used to seal the inner periphery of the extending tube 312 so that water can be stored in the sink 4. When the user wants to filter the goods soaked in the water and drain the water, the seal device 37 is pulled upward as shown in FIG. 7, the water drains from the extension tube 312 and the goods is filtered via the basket 371.
  • As shown in FIG. 8, which shows another embodiment of the drain assembly 3, the difference between the embodiment in FIG. 8 and the drain assembly in FIG. 4 is that the extension tube 316 extending from the under side of the cup 31 includes a smooth outside and the positioning member 34 has a pre-set length and is glued or welded to the outside of. The positioning member 38 includes an outer threaded periphery 382 and the connector 36 is threadedly connected to the outer threaded periphery 382 and the positioning ring 361 is connected to the connector 36. The positioning member 34 includes protrusions 381 extending outward from an top thereof and the central hole 351 of the positioning plate 35 includes recesses defined in an inner periphery thereof so that the protrusions 381 are moved through the recesses and rotated an angle to connect the positioning member 38 to the positioning plate 35.
  • The drain assembly 3 includes the positioning member 34 which is located at outside of the extension tube 312 and the positioning plate 35 includes a central hole 351 which is easily engaged with the positioning member 34 so that the installers can quickly position the drain assembly 3. The positioning member 34 can be made by linear press-cutting or linear cutting and the positioning member 34 is fixed to the extension tube 312 by gluing or welding. The installers can quickly connect the positioning plate 35 to the positioning member 34. Because the extension tube 312 is positioned by using the positioning member 34 and the positioning plate 35, so that the inner periphery of the extension tube 312 can be smooth which does not trap debris of goods.
  • While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (4)

1. A drain assembly comprising:
a cup adapted to be connected to the sink and having an extension tube extending from an underside thereof, the extension tube having an outer threaded periphery;
a seal and an urging ring mounted to the cup from the underside of the cup;
a positioning plate fixed to the cup and having a central hole through which the extension tube extends, a plurality of bolts extending through the positioning plate and contacting against the urging ring;
a connector fixed to the extension tube;
a filtering seal device connected to the cup and including a basket, a rubber seal and a rod which extends through the basket and connected to the rubber seal, and
a positioning member having an inner threaded periphery which is threadedly connected to the outer threaded periphery of the extension tube, the positioning member engaged with the central hole of the positioning plate.

The assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein a plurality of recesses are defined in an inner periphery of the central hole of the positioning plate and the positioning member has a plurality of protrusions extending radially outward from an outer periphery thereof, the protrusions of the positioning member extend through the recess of the positioning plate and are rotated an angle such that the protrusions of the positioning member are supported on the inner periphery of the central hole of the positioning plate.
3. A drain assembly comprising:
a cup adapted to be connected to the sink and having an extension tube extending from an underside thereof, the extension tube having a smooth outside;
a seal and an urging ring mounted to the cup from the underside of the cup;
a positioning plate fixed to the cup and having a central hole through which the extension tube extends, a plurality of bolts extending through the positioning plate and contacting against the urging ring;
a positioning member fixedly connected to the smooth outside of the extension tube and having an inner threaded periphery, the positioning member engaged with the central hole of the positioning plate;
a connector connected to the positioning member, and
a filtering seal device connected to the cup and including a basket, a rubber seal and a rod which extends through the basket and connected to the rubber seal.
4. The assembly as claimed in claim 3, wherein the positioning member includes protrusions extending outward from an top thereof and the central hole of the positioning plate includes recesses defined in an inner periphery thereof, the protrusions are moved through the recesses and are rotated an angle to connect the positioning member to the positioning plate.
