Abstract
A seat cushion includes a cushion body and a connecting device for connecting detachably the cushion body to a chair unit. The cushion body includes a seat cushion portion adapted to be disposed on a seat member of the chair unit, a back cushion portion connected to the seat cushion portion, and two arm cushion portions connected respectively to left and right sides of the seat cushion portion and adapted to cover armrests of the chair unit. The connecting device includes two side connecting units, each of which includes inter-engageable first and second fastening units connected to the respective arm cushion portion proximate to and distal from the seat cushion portion, respectively, for positioning the respective arm cushion portion on the respective armrest.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The invention relates to a seat cushion, more particularly to a seat cushion for an armchair.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- Generally, an armchair includes a seat, a backrest, a plurality of legs, and two armrests. The seat and the backrest are interconnected to form an L-shaped frame. The legs are connected to the seat. The armrests are disposed respectively at two sides of the seat.
- During use, a seat cushion is usually placed on the armchair to make the user comfortable. The seat cushion usually corresponds to the seat of the armchair. However, some conventional seat cushions have an L-shaped body so as to correspond to the seat and the backrest of the armchair for added comfort.
- Since the hands of the user can rest on the armrests, and since the conventional seat cushions for the armchair do not include cushions for the armrests, the armchair is still uncomfortable to use.
- Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a seat cushion which includes armrest cushion portions for added comfort during use of a chair unit.
- According to this invention, a seat cushion is adapted to be detachably connected to a chair unit. The chair unit includes a seat member, a leg unit for supporting the seat member on the ground, a backrest connected to the seat member, and two armrests disposed respectively at two sides of the seat member. The seat cushion comprises a cushion body and a connecting device. The cushion body includes a seat cushion portion adapted to be disposed on the seat member, a back cushion portion connected to a rear side of the seat cushion portion, and two arm cushion portions connected respectively to left and right sides of the seat cushion portion and adapted to cover the armrests. The connecting device connects detachably the cushion body to the chair unit, and includes two side connecting units for positioning respectively the arm cushion portions on the armrests. Each of the side connecting units includes a first fastening unit connected to a respective one of the arm cushion portions proximate to the seat cushion portion, and a second fastening unit connected to the respective one of the arm cushion portions distal from the seat cushion portion. The first and second fastening units are inter-engaged to position the respective one of the arm cushion portions on the respective one of the armrests.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the first preferred embodiment in a state of use; and -
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view of the second preferred embodiment of a seat cushion according to the present invention, illustrating how an arm cushion portion is positioned on one of the armrests of the chair unit. - Before the present invention is described in greater detail, it should be noted that like elements are denoted by the same reference numerals throughout the disclosure.
- Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, the first preferred embodiment of a seat cushion according to the present invention is adapted to be mounted on a
chair unit 1. In this embodiment, thechair unit 1 is an armchair constructed by welding together a plurality of rod members, and includes aseat member 11, a leg unit connected to theseat member 11 for supporting theseat member 11 on the ground and having fourlegs 12, aback rest 13 fixed on and extending upwardly from a rear side of theseat member 11, and twoarmrests 14 disposed respectively at two sides of theseat member 11. In practice, the seat cushion of the present invention can be mounted on other chair units with various designs, and is not limited for application to theexemplary chair unit 1. The seat cushion of the present invention comprises acushion body 2 and a connectingdevice 3. Thecushion body 2 includes aseat cushion portion 21, aback cushion portion 22, twoarm cushion portions 23, and twomarginal portions 24. Theseat cushion portion 21 is adapted to be disposed on top of theseat member 11, and is made by sewing leather or a fabric material to form an outer sleeve, and then filling the outer sleeve with a soft material, such as a foam body. Theback cushion portion 22 has a structure similar to that of theseat cushion portion 21, is sewn fixedly to a rear side of theseat cushion portion 21, and is disposed to rest in front of thebackrest 13. Thearm cushion portions 23 have a structure similar to those of theseat cushion portion 21 and theback cushion portion 22, and are sewn fixedly and respectively to left and right sides of theseat cushion portion 21. Themarginal portions 24 are sewn fixedly and respectively to thearm cushion portions 23 at locations distal from the left and right sides of theseat cushion portion 21. Each of themarginal portions 24 is a piece of leather in this embodiment. In practice, theseat cushion portion 21, theback cushion portion 22, and thearm cushion portions 23 can be formed integrally, or, together with themarginal portions 24, can be made of the same soft material with the sewing lines differentiating among the portions, and with themarginal portions 24 being dispensed with the need to be filled with the foam body. - The connecting
device 3 is provided for connecting detachably thecushion body 2 to thechair unit 1, and includes aseat connecting unit 31, aback connecting unit 32, and twoside connecting units 33. Theseat connecting unit 31 is provided for positioning theseat cushion portion 21 on theseat member 11 of thechair unit 1, and includes aseat strap 311 sewn fixedly to a bottom side of theseat cushion portion 21, as best shown inFIG. 2 , and a pair ofreleasable seat fasteners 312 sewn fixedly and respectively to two ends of theseat strap 311. Theback connecting unit 32 has a structure substantially similar to that of theseat connecting unit 31, and is provided for positioning theback cushion portion 22 on thebackrest 13 of thechair unit 1. Theback connecting unit 32 includes aback strap 321 sewn fixedly to a rear side of theback cushion portion 22, and a pair ofreleasable back fasteners 322 sewn fixedly and respectively to two ends of theback strap 321. - The
side connecting units 33 are provided for positioning respectively thearm cushion portions 23 on thearmrests 14 of thechair unit 1. Each of theside connecting units 33 includes afirst fastening unit 331 sewn fixedly to an inner bottom portion of a respective one of thearm cushion portions 23 at a location proximate to theseat cushion portion 21, and asecond fastening unit 332 sewn fixedly to a respective one of themarginal portions 24. In this embodiment, the first andsecond fastening units - During assembly, the
cushion body 2 is mounted on thechair unit 1, theseat strap 311 is wrapped around a rod member of theseat member 11, and theseat fasteners 312 are inter-engaged so as to secure theseat cushion portion 21 on theseat member 11, as best shown inFIG. 2 . Then, theback strap 321 is wrapped around a rod member of thebackrest 13, and theback fasteners 322 are inter-engaged so as to secure theback cushion portion 22 on thebackrest 13. Afterwards, thearm cushion portions 23 are wrapped around thearmrests 14, and the first andsecond fastening units side connecting units 33 are inter-engaged so as to secure each of thearm cushion portions 23 on therespective armrest 14, as best shown inFIGS. 2 and 3 . Thus, through theseat connecting unit 31, theback connecting unit 32, and theside connecting units 33 of the connectingdevice 3, thecushion body 2 can be secured on thechair unit 1. Theseat member 11, thebackrest 13, and thearmrests 14 of thechair unit 1 are all covered with soft cushion bodies, as shown inFIG. 4 . When thecushion body 2 is not needed or must be washed, it is simply detached from thechair unit 1 through the connectingdevice 3. - Referring to
FIG. 5 , the second preferred embodiment of a seat cushion according to the present invention is shown to be substantially similar to the first preferred embodiment. However, in this embodiment, the first andsecond fastening units 331′, 332′ of each of theside connecting units 33′ are configured as a pair of releasable male and female snap fasteners. - Of course, the first and
second fastening units side connecting units 33 maybe replaced with a button-type fastener, or a pair of strings that can be tied together. Furthermore, theseat connecting unit 31 and theback connecting unit 32 may have other structures, and the number of theseat connecting unit 31 and theback connecting unit 32 may be increased or decreased depending on the size of theseat cushion portion 21 and theback cushion portion 22, respectively. - From the aforementioned description of the present invention, it is apparent that the
cushion body 2 is detachably connected to thechair unit 1 through the connectingdevice 3, such that theseat member 11 has aseat cushion portion 21 on top of the same, thebackrest 13 has aback cushion portion 22 in front of the same, and thearmrests 14 are covered respectively by thearm cushion portions 23. As such, all the portions to be contacted by the user are covered with soft cushion bodies, thereby providing more comfort to the user during use of thechair unit 1. - While the present invention has been described in connection with what is considered the most practical and preferred embodiments, it is understood that this invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments but is intended to cover various arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and equivalent arrangements.
Claims (6)
1. A seat cushion adapted to be detachably connected to a chair unit, the chair unit including a seat member, a leg unit for supporting the seat member on the ground, a backrest connected to the seat member, and two armrests disposed respectively at two sides of the seat member, said seat cushion comprising:
a cushion body including a seat cushion portion adapted to be disposed on the seat member, a back cushion portion connected to a rear side of said seat cushion portion, and two arm cushion portions connected respectively to left and right sides of said seat cushion portion and adapted to cover the armrests; and
a connecting device for connecting detachably said cushion body to the chair unit, said connecting device including two side connecting units for positioning respectively said arm cushion portions on the armrests, each of said side connecting units including a first fastening unit connected to a respective one of said arm cushion portions proximate to said seat cushion portion, and a second fastening unit connected to the respective one of said arm cushion portions distal from said seat cushion portion, said first and second fastening units being inter-engaged to position the respective one of said arm cushion portions on the respective one of the armrests.
2. The seat cushion as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said first and second connecting units are configured as fastener straps having hooks and loops.
3. The seat cushion as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said first and second connecting units are configured as male and female snap fasteners.
4. The seat cushion as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said cushion body further includes two marginal portions connected respectively to said arm cushion portions distal from said seat cushion portion, said second fastening unit of each of said side connecting units being secured on a respective one of said marginal portions.
5. The seat cushion as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said connecting device further includes a seat connecting unit for positioning said seat cushion portion on the seat member, said seat connecting unit including a seat strap connected fixedly to a bottom side of said seat cushion portion, and a pair of releasable seat fasteners connected fixedly and respectively to two ends of said seat strap.
6. The seat cushion as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said connecting device further includes a back connecting unit for positioning said back cushion portion on the backrest, said back connecting unit including a back strap connected fixedly to a rear side of said back cushion portion, and a pair of releasable back fasteners connected fixedly and respectively to two ends of said back strap.
