FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a stopper ofFIG. 2 ; -
FIGS. 5A, 5B and 5C illustrate operations of the stand according to an embodiment of the present invention; and -
FIG. 6 is a side sectional view of the display apparatus when packaged. - Reference will now be made in detail to the embodiments of the present invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to like elements throughout. The embodiments are described below in order to explain the present invention by referring to the figures.
- As shown in
FIGS. 2, 3 , 4, 5A, 5B, and 5C, a display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises adisplay 20 having astand groove 22 on a rear of thedisplay 20, astand 30 tiltably connected to thestand groove 22 and having a first end formed with aratchet 33, and astopper 40 engaging with theratchet 33 and allowing a tilt of thestand 30 to be selectively adjusted. - The
display 20 is employed to display a picture thereon, and a structure of thestand groove 22 formed on the rear of thedisplay 20 may vary according to the size and the shape of thestand 30. - In an embodiment of the invention, the
stand grooves 22 are respectively formed in the rear opposite sides of thedisplay 20. This arrangement gives the stand grooves 22 a supporting capability and allows thestand 30 to provide stability. That is, thedisplay 20 leans against the stand. - As shown in
FIG. 3 , thestand 30 is employed to support thedisplay 20, and comprises asupporter 32 shaped like a bar in which the first end is formed with theratchet 33, includinggrooves 33 a. Ahinge 34 is transversely inserted in the first end of the supportingstand 32 and is connected to thestand groove 22, to allow the supportingstand 32 to be selectively accommodated in thestand groove 22. Theratchet 33 and thestopper 40 have a structure allowing thestand 30 to be tilted in only one direction (e.g., a clockwise direction), that is, preventing thestand 30 to tilt in the reverse direction (e.g., a counterclockwise direction). - In an embodiment of the invention, the
stand 30 forms a pair, and the pair ofstands 30 may be separate or may be connected to each other by a connector (not shown). In the case where the pair ofstands 30 is connected to each other by the connector, a connector groove (not shown) is formed in the rear of thedisplay 20 to accommodate the connector. - The
hinge 34 is integrally provided in the supportingstand 32 and is also conveniently and easily accommodated in thestand groove 22. The structure of thehinge 34 may vary as long as thehinge 34 allows thestand 32 to be tilted at a predetermined angle. - As shown in
FIG. 4 , thestopper 40 comprises abase 42 supported by thestand groove 22, anelastic part 44 being extended from, and, in an embodiment of the invention, bent from thebase 42, and aholder 46 formed in theelastic part 44 and selectively engaging with thegears 33 a of theratchet 33, depending on the tilt of thestand 30. - The
elastic part 44 comprises abody 43, which is elastically deformed together with theholder 46, and apusher 45, laterally protruding from thebody 43, to temporarily release theratchet 33 from theholder 46 when pushed. - Thus, when the
stand 30 is tilted forward, thestand 30 is allowed to tilt because theholder 46 of thestopper 40 is elastically deformed while engaging with thegears 33 a of theratchet 33. On the other hand, when thestand 30 is tilted in reverse, thestand 30 is allowed to tilt only when theratchet 33 is temporarily released from theholder 46 because the structure of theratchet 33 prevents thestand 30 from being tilted. Releasing theratchet 33 from theholder 46 is accomplished by pushing thepusher 45, formed in thebody 43, away from the ratchet such that the holder escapes from the grip of thegears 33 a of theratchet 33. thepusher 45 protrudes laterally from thebody 43, and can be easily pushed using a finger or a similar object. To help a user easily push thepusher 45, in an embodiment of the invention, apredetermined space 47 is formed in thestand groove 22. Thus, when in use, thepredetermined space 47 in thestand 30 is accommodated in thestand groove 22. - The shape and the position of the
pusher 45 may vary as long as a user may easily push thepusher 45. - The
stopper 40 is made of a material having enough elasticity to be deformed when pushed, and in an embodiment of the invention, is made of a synthetic resin which is economical and has good physical properties. - As described above, the
display 20 includes astand 30 of a liquid crystal display (LCD), a Television, etc., and should therefore be placed on a suitable surface. In this regard, thereference numeral 50 indicates a seating place. In an embodiment of the invention, theseating place 50 is flat and smooth. - In a further embodiment of the invention, a base of the
display 20 and a bottom of thestand 30 are fitted withsoles 51 to cushion thedisplay 20 and thestand 30 as well as to protect the surface of theseating place 50. - In the above-described display apparatus, operations of the stand will be described hereinbelow.
- First, the
ratchet 33 is temporarily released from thestopper 40 by pushing thepusher 45 towards thepredetermined space 47 instand groove 22, or into thestand groove 22 . Thestand 30 is then tilted as desired. Thepusher 45 of thestopper 40 is then released from being pushed, so that thestopper 40 elastically returns to its original shape and engages with theratchet 33. Hence, thedisplay 20 and thestand 30 securely maintain their connection at a predetermined angle. - Further, when the
stand 30 is tilted forward, thestopper 40 is elastically and selectively engaged with theratchet 33, being deformed as thestand 30 is tilted at a predetermined angle. Hence, thedisplay 20 can be freely tilted. - Meanwhile,
FIG. 6 is a side sectional view of the display apparatus when packaged. - As shown therein, each of the
stand grooves 22 formed in the rear opposite sides of thedisplay 20 has a depth of “d”, which is deep enough to completely accommodate thestand 30 without causing thestand 30 to protrude beyond a rear surface of thedisplay 20. - Therefore, the package of the display apparatus is designed in consideration of the size of the
display 20 regardless of thestand 30. Here, when thestand 30 is accommodated in thestand groove 22, thestand 30 and thestopper 40 are disposed in parallel to each other, being engaged with theratchet 33. - As described above, the present invention provides a display apparatus which is improved in assembling efficiency and productivity by a simple connecting structure of a stand, and is convenient to carry, keep and package the display apparatus by a compact outer appearance.
- Further, the present invention provides a display apparatus which is economical by reducing a material cost, a physical distribution cost, etc.
- Although a few embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it would be appreciated by those skilled in the art that changes may be made in this embodiment without departing from the principles and spirit of the invention, the scope of which is defined in the claims and their equivalents.
