Description
- This application is also a continuation-in-part of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 10/639,859 filed by the applicant on Aug. 12, 2003, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference.
- 1. Field of the Invention
- This invention relates to a pull-on type shoe, more particularly to a pull-on type shoe having an adjustment pad unit to adjust the fitting of the shoe.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- As shown in
FIG. 1 , a conventional pull-on type shoe includes azipper 1 which can be pulled upward or downward to close or open a shoe so that the shoe is easy to be put on or taken off by the user as compared to the conventional shoe having a shoe lacing. However, since lasts for making pull-on type shoes have standard sizes which may not suit the foot of every user and since zippers cannot be adjusted to control the tightness or looseness of a shoe unlike shoe lacings, pull-on type shoes may not be able to accommodate every user. Especially, the shoes may be too loose at the instep parts thereof when they are worn by a user having thin feet. - In order to alleviate the aforesaid problem, manufacturers utilize a set of lasts having different degrees of fatness for the same standard size of shoes to produce shoes suitable for different users. However, the use of different sets of lasts increases the manufacturing cost and complicates the manufacturing process. In addition, shoe sellers, such as wholesaler and retailers, have to bear a burden of inventory due to the need to provide stock of shoes of the same size but having different degrees of fatness.
- The object of the present invention is to provide a pull-on type shoe which is adjustable at an instep part thereof. According to the present invention, a shoe comprises: an outsole; an upper having a bottom open end connected to the outsole, a top open end, and an instep part; a lining disposed inside the upper and having an outer surface opposite to an inner surface of the upper; and an adjustment pad unit provided between the outer surface of the lining and the inner surface of the upper and mounted on one of the upper and the lining, the adjustment pad unit including a plurality of pad sections.
- Preferably, the shoe further comprises a connecting unit attached to the lining unit to mount the adjustment pad unit on the lining unit. Moreover, the upper further includes an opening which extends from the top open end to the instep part, a pair of marginal edges defining the opening, and a closure member attached to and extending along the marginal edges to close or open the opening. The lining is disposed across the opening and having two opposite ends connected to the inner surface of the upper.

In this embodiment, the first andsecond pad sections second pad sections second pad sections second pad sections second pads sections adjustment pad unit 50 is folded. Similarly, the inner sides of the first andsecond pad sections second pad sections lining 30. - The
closure member 60 is attached to and extends longitudinally along themarginal edges 25 of the upper 20. Theclosure member 60 in this embodiment is a zipper. When the closure member orzipper 60 is pulled upward, theopening 24 is closed so that theadjustment pad unit 50 pressurizes the lining 30, or the receivingspace 70 of thelining 30 and the upper 20. - Referring to
FIG. 3 , if the foot of the user is thin, the first andsecond pad sections second pad sections lining 30. Thesecond pad section 52 is placed at a position substantially corresponding to theinstep part 23 of the upper 20. When theclosure member 60 is in a closed position (seeFIG. 3 ), theclosure member 60 presses thesecond pad section 52 against the instep of the user's foot. - Referring to
FIG. 5 , in case the thickness of the user's foot is rather small, thefirst pad section 51 may be folded downward and over thesecond pad section 52 so that theadjustment pad unit 50 becomes a double-layered configuration and the thickness thereof is double. When theclosure member 60 closes theopening 24, theclosure member 60 causes the first andsecond pad sections lining 30 and the receivingspace 70 at a location corresponding to theinstep 23 of the upper 20. As such, the shoe fits the instep of the user's foot. - Referring to
FIG. 4 , if the user's foot is thick, thesecond pad section 52 may be folded upward and over thefirst pad section 51. In this case, the first andsecond pad sections instep part 23 of the upper 20. When theclosure member 60 closes theopening 24, no pressure will be applied to the receivingspace 70 at theinstep part 23. - The pull-on type shoe of the present invention not only enables the user to put on and take off the shoe easily but also permits adjustment of the shoe through the
adjustment pad unit 50 to provide a good fit for the user's foot, whether thin or thick. The present invention thus alleviates the problem of the conventional pull-on type shoe which is usually loose at its instep part for users having thin feet. - In addition, due to the adjustability of the pull-on type shoe according to the present invention, additional lasts necessary to produce standard-sized shoes with degrees of different fatness can be dispensed with. As such, not only the manufacturing cost can be decreased, the production process can also be simplified. Furthermore, it is not necessary for wholesalers and retailers to stock shoes having different degrees of fatness, thereby eliminating the inventory problem encountered by the prior art.
