Be it known that I, JOSEPH Ro'rHs'rnIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and lmproved Cushion Instep-Raiser, of which the following is .a full, clear, and eXact description.
The invention relates to boots and shoes, and its object is to provide a new and im, proved cushion instep raiser more especially designed fory attachment to the tongue of a laced shoe or the Hy of a buttoned shoe to overlie a low instep of the foot of a wearer, thus permitting the proper fitting of the usual shoes and to allow correct-lacing or buttoning of the shoe and without danger of wrinkling the uppers or impinging the foot.
In order to produce the desired result, use is made of a pad formed of a casing of a soft HeXible materialand containing a H11- ing material such as hair and the like, and an attaching means for attaching the pad to the under side of the tongue or Hy of a shoe.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in 'which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is`a sectional .side elevation of the cushion instep raiser as applied to a laced shoe, parts of which are shown broken out;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the cushion instep raiser;
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the same; and, n Fig. et is a cross section of the same.
The c/ushion instep raiser is in the formv of a pad adapted to be attached to the under side of the tongue 11 of a laced shoe or to the .under side of the Hy of a buttoned shoe. The pad 10 consists of a casing 12 of a soft Hexible fabric material and filled or stuffed with hair or other similar suitable filling material 13 to render the pad softv and pliant. The pad 10 gradually decreases in width from the top to the lower end thereof so as to conform to the shape of the tongue 11 on which it is used. In practice, two
pieces of fabric material `are sewed together along the edges with the filling material 13 between the same so that the pad decreases in thickness toward the sides and the top and bottom to insure a proper fitting of the pad inside of the shoe.
In order to permit of" conveniently attachingy the pad to the under side of the tongue 11 or the fly of a buttoned shoe, use is made of an adhesive substance 1/.1L covering the upper face of the casing, it being understood that this adhesive substance, such as gum, is normally dry, and prior to applying the pad the gummed surface is moistened and then pressed in contact with the under side of the tongue llor the Hy of the shoe.
It will be noticed that as the pad is soft it readily follows the shape of the tongue or fly, and when used in the shoe the pad fo1- lows the low instep of the users foot thus raising the tongue or Hy correspondingly to insure 4correct lacing or buttoning of the l.shoe and without danger of wrinkling the shoe upper and impinging the foot of the wearer. f
Having thus described my invention, l claim .as new and'desire to secure by Letters Patent.:
1. As an article of manufacture, a cushion instep raiser for shoes, comprising a pad formed of a casing of a soft flexible material and containing a filling material, and an attaching means for attaching the pad to the under side of the tongue or Hy of a shoe.
2. As an article of manufacture, a cushion instep raiser for shoes, comprising a pad formed of a casing of a soft flexible fabric material containing a filling of hair, the casing gradually decreasing in width from the top to the bottom, and an adhesive substance covering the upper face of the casing to per mit of attaching the pad to the under side of the tongue or Hy of a shoe.
3. As a `new article of manufacture, a cushion instep raiser for shoes, comprising a pad decreasing in width from lits upper to its lower end and decreasing in thickness toward its sides, and provided on its upper side with an adhesive substance for securing iilalto the underside of the tongue or Hy of a s oe.
