5 in use.
This application is related to our Patent No- 1,973,815 dated September 118, 1934, on a-Game apparatus, and relates to and'claims per :se the anti-tilting device shown. and described our aforesaid patent and by means of which the score registering Zdial embodied in the game apparatus of our aforesaid patent is rendered invisible to the player, so 'thathe can vnotsee the score he has made, and the score-recording device is rendered ineffective, if. the player attempts to operate the apparatus fraudulently Joy-tilting the same out of its normal and proper or horizontal operating positi'om: Other objects will appear hereinafter. v The invention consists in the'novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described andzclaimed. v The invention will :be best understood by ref,-' erence to the accompanyingdrawing showingjthe preferred fonn ofconstructionjand inwhich:
- Fig. 1 'is a fragmentary :toplplan view'pof {the gameapparatus-embodied in our aforesaid patent and. showing particularly the anti-tilting device with which the present application is concerned;
Fig.- 2 is'a vertical sectionalyiew on line 2' -2 :Fig. 3 is afragmentary top plan view of the cabinetembodied in the new apparatus; V Fig. 4 is a verticalsectional view on line Fig. -1-;*and 1 Fig.5 is afragmentary detail view. The game apparatus shown and described in our aforesaid patentxcomposesa cabinet 1 within which is arranged a score registering ,dial H, the face o'f the latter-being visible .tothe player through a sight opening ,32 which is providedin the topof the cabinet; the said registering dial ll being operated by mechanismshown in our afore said patent :and. part of which .is illustrated in v .-1 g v Arranged in'thecabinet .10 is a vertical sup.- .poiiting wall' 21:2 vand pivotally suspended from this wall I2 is a pendulum 1:3, andwhen vthecabinet It) and its venclosedgame apparatus are in proper-playing position the upper end portion of the pendulum I3 is latchingly engaged with a latch member I4, the latch member l4 being mounted upon a horizontal shaft [5 which extends transversely across the cabinet lfl adjacent the lower end wall l6 thereof.'
Pivotally connected to the latch member ll, as. at H, is a slide bar l8 which is slidably mounted on the vertical supporting wall l2 by means of a pin and slot connection l9. This slide bar 18 has alateral extension 20 (Fig. 2) which projects over the peripheral surface of the score registeringdial H Carried by the shaft l5, adjacent a vertical supporting wall 21 which is arranged in the cabinet lll is an arm-22 and pivotally connected to the arm'22 is a link 23, while pivotally connected to the link '23 at the lower end of the latter is a memed upon, a horizontal shaft 25 which carries the score recording or printingdrum 26. This member 24 has a counter-weighted portion 2'! which is normally latched in raised, or full line, position (Fig. 4) by latching engagement of the upper end portion of "the pendulum 13 with the latch member 14.-
a If the player attempts to operate'the game apparatus in the. cabinet fraudulently,by tilting the same and the cabinet lfl from their proper playing position, the upper end portion of the pendulum I3 is moved by gravity out of latching engagement with the latch member l4, whereupon the counter'weighted portion 21 of the member 24 drops or pivots by gravity (counterclockwise, Fig.4) uponits-supportingshaft 25,:thereby elevating or pivoting the member 24 into a'position :(as in dotted lines, Fig. 4) between the peripheral or. printing face of the printing drum '26iand the pivotal impression-transmitting or pressure member 28, thus preventing the player from printing the score ofthegameupon the ticket web 33 whichis fed between the pressure member: 28 and the printing drum 26 by means not shown but embodiedin our aforesaid patent.
At the same time, this motion of the counterweighted member 24-21 acts through thelink 23 and the arm 22 to rotate the shaft 55. (clockwise, Fig. 4,counterclockwise,- Fig. 2), thereby slidingthe bar 58 (right to left, Fig. 2), and thus projecting the angled or lateral extension 20 of the slide bar it across the peripheral surface of the score-indicating or registering dial ll; thereby rendering the players score invisible to him through the sight opening 32 which is provided'in the top wall of the cabinet l0. 7 I in cinema reset the anti-tiltingodevice into its normal or ineffective position, that is, in order to retract the lateral extension 2|! of the slide bar l8 out from under the sight opening 32 through which the score-indicating dial I l is vise ible, and to remove the stop member 24 from ber -24lwhich floats upon thatis, is loosely mountits effective position between the printing drum 26 and the pressure member 28, it is necessary for the player to insert a proper coin into the coin aperture of the coin slide 28 and push the same inwardly from coin-receiving toward coin-discharging position, (from bottom to top, Fig. 1, right to left, Fig. This movement of the coin slide 29, acting through a link connection 30, rocks the shaft 3| and a segmental gear 34' carried thereby (counterclockwise, Fig. 4) and dur-. ing this movement of the segmental gear 34 its upper edge engages a laterally projectingpin 35 which is carried by the counterweighted. portion.
21 of the member 24, therebypivoting the counterweighted member 24-21 '(clockwise, Fig. 4). This movement of the counterweighted member 24 21 retracts the same (from dotted to full line position, Fig. 4) out of effective position between the pressure member 28 and the printing drum 26, so that the pressure member 28 may again urge the ticket Web 33 against the printing drum 26.
. Also at the same time'this movement of the stop member 24 acts throughthe link 23 and arm 22 to rock the shaft l5 (counterclockwise,- Fig. 4, clockwise, Fig. 2), thereby pivoting the latch member I 4 (clockwise, Fig. 2) and thus moving theslide bar l8 (left to right, Fig. 2). This movement of the slide bar l8 retracts the lateral extension 20 thereof out from under the sight opening 32 in the cabinet and thus again exposes the score-indicating dial II to the player. At
the same time, this movement of the slide bar l8 reengages the latch member M with the upper endportion of the pendulum I3 so as to latch the counterweighted end portion 21 of the stop member 24 in raised and'inetfective position (as in full lines, Fig. 4)
While we have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying our invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without "departing from the spiritof the invention. We, therefore, do not wish to be limitedto the precise details of con-' struction set forth, but desire toavail ourselves of such variations and modifications as' come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patentris: r
