IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.

My invention will be readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawing, whereon Figurelrepresents a sideview of the buckle,
with the opposite ends of a metal band connected therewith. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view of the same, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal section through the line a; w of Fig. 2. Figs. 4 and 5 represent the manner in which the ends of a pliable band may be secured.
A is a rectangular buckle, having one of its ends somewhat thicker than the other, and its under side slightly curved, so that it may be used on a rounded as well as flattened surface. At about one-third distant from the thickest end the buckle 1s provided with a cross-bar, at, around which one end of the band is first secured by bending, so as to form an oblate hook, which is prevented from slipping, as will be hereinafter described. The opposite end of .the band is secured, as shown, by passing it under the bar I), over a, and under a.
If the band be of metal, its ends are clipped close to the thickest end of the buckle, and both of them bent back against the said end, as at d. If, however, the band be of a pliable material, an additional security will be to fold one of the ends back under the bar b, as shown in Fig. 4; or both ends of the band may be tucked under the said bar, as shown in Fig. 5.
From the above it is evident that the strain upon the band will cause the longest end of the buckle to act as a lever, whereby the shortest end is depressed with sufficient force to effectually prevent any back-slip of either en of the band.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The bale-tie A, having bars a b 0 parallel, but not in the same plane, the bar 0 having a sharp edge and inclined outer side, in order to admit of the bending of the bale-band at an acute angle.
2. The buckle A, having bars a b c, in combination with the ends of the band, the same being led respectively under the outer bars, over the center one, and secured by bending around the outer bar 0, substantially as described.
