Abstract
A box and cover combination comprises a box and a cover. The box includes an opening, and a hole is defined in each of two opposed sides defining the opening of the box. The cover includes a peripheral edge in an underside thereof. The peripheral edge includes two opposed engaging portions each having an engaging face. An engaging hole is defined in each engaging face. Two positioning plates each have an end pivotally connected to an associated one of the engaging portions and include an engaging member. When the cover is attached to the box, each engaging face of the cover is located in the opening of the box, and each positioning plate is located outside the box. The engaging member of each positioning plate is extendible through an associated hole of the box into the engaging hole of an associated engaging face.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a box and cover combination having an improved engaging effect therebetween.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- FIGS. 4 and 5 of the drawings illustrate a conventional box and cover combination. The
box 1′ includes an opening 11′, and thecover 2′ includes aperipheral edge 21′ that is force-fitted into the opening 11′ of thebox 1′. Ahook 22′ is provided on top of thecover 2′, allowing thecover 2′ and thebox 1′ to be hung on a display shelf or the like. However, thecover 2′ is apt to be disengaged from thebox 1′ if the force-fitting engagement therebetween is not tight enough. This would happen inevitably under the action of gravity if thehook 22′ is hung on a display shelf or hook. On the other hand, opening of thecover 2′ is difficult if the engagement between theperipheral edge 21′ of thecover 2′ and opening 11′ of thebox 11′ is too tight. - A box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention comprises a box and a cover. The box includes an opening, and a hole is defined in each of two opposed sides defining the opening of the box. The cover includes a peripheral edge in an underside thereof and a hook on a top thereof. The peripheral edge of the cover has a width smaller than that of the opening of the box. The peripheral edge includes two opposed engaging portions each having an engaging face. An engaging hole is defined in each engaging face. Two positioning plates each have an end pivotally connected to an associated one of the engaging portions and include an engaging member.
- When the cover is attached to the box, each engaging face of the cover is located in the opening of the box, and each positioning plate is located outside the box. The engaging member of each positioning plate is extendible through an associated hole of the box into the engaging hole of an associated engaging face.
- Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
- FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention.
- FIG. 3 is a sectional view of illustrating engagement between the box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention.
- FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view of a conventional box and cover arrangement.
- FIG. 5 is a sectional view illustrating engagement between the conventional box and cover combination.
- Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention generally comprises a
box 1 having anopening 12 and acover 2. Twoholes 12 are respectively defined in two opposed sides defining the opening 12 of thebox 1. - The
cover 2 includes aperipheral edge 21 having a width smaller than that of the opening 11 of thebox 1. Theperipheral edge 21 includes two opposedengaging portions 22 each having anengaging face 23. Anengaging hole 24 is defined in eachengaging face 23. Further, apositioning plate 25 has an end pivotally connected to eachengaging portion 22. In this embodiment, eachpositioning plate 25 is integrally formed with the associatedengaging portion 22 and includes abendable portion 27 on an upper end thereof. Anengaging member 26 is provided on an inner face of eachpositioning plate 25. Ahook 28 is provided on top of thecover 2. - Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, when attaching the
cover 2 to thebox 1, theperipheral edge 21 of thecover 2 is inserted into theopening 11 of thebox 1 with eachengaging face 23 being located in the opening 11 and with eachpositioning plate 25 located outside thebox 1. Eachpositioning plate 25 is the pivoted toward thebox 1 until theengaging member 26 of eachpositioning plate 25 is extended through the associatedhole 12 of thebox 1 into theengaging hole 24 of the associatedengaging face 23. Thus, thecover 2 is securely attached to thebox 1. Disengagement of thecover 2 from thebox 1 is avoided, even if thehook 28 is hung on a hook or the like. Removal of thecover 2 from thebox 1 can only be achieved when eachpositioning plate 25 is pivoted away from thebox 1. Theperipheral edge 21 of thecover 2 needs not to be in tight engagement with the peripheral wall defining the opening 11 of thebox 1 due to provision of thepositioning plate 25 and theengaging hole 24. - Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
