DENTAL PLATE Filed Jan. 9, 1933 Patented June 4, 1935 v l DENTAL PLATE Eugen Kaczmarek, Berlin-Hermsdorf, i
Germany Application January 9, 1933, Serial No. 650,903
i In Germany January 9, 1932 4 Claims.
Y The present invention relates to dental plates, mom particularly to a valve embodied in such plates for xing the same in the mouth of the wearer, .and has for one of its main objects to 5 provide a dental plate valve capable of exhausting the air accumulating in the space between the roof of the mouth and the plate when the latter is placed in position, whereby a suction will be created therebetween to draw the plate and retain the 'mme in proper position.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a dental plate valve constructed to resist the action of saliva, thereby making it possible to materially increase the perlod of usefulness of said devices; the improved device being further constructed in .a manner that the parts lmay be readily and easily replaced should for some reason they become deteriorated.
The invention also aims to provide a device of the character mentioned which will not depend, alone, upon the differences of pressure existing on either side of the device to operate the same, because this necessitates too great a suction between the palate and plate, thereby causing pains and inconvenience to the wearer, but wherein the action of the valve is assisted by positive means such as a spring urging the relative associated parts of the device into operative position.
It is likewise among the desired features of the invention to provide a valve for retaining dental plates in position, and which is so constructed that its proper functioning is assured regardless of the amount of air imprisoned within the space between the plate and palate.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
In order that the invention and its mode of operation may be readily understood by those persons skilled in the art, I have in the accompanying drawing and in the detailed description based thereupon set out a possible embodiment of the same.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a face elevation of the valve plate;
Figure 2 is a section through said plate showing the parts associated therewith;
Figure 3 is a face elevation of the valve base;
Figure 4 is a section through the valve plate itself; and,
Figure 5 is a section taken through the entire device.
Having more particular reference to the drawing wherein like characters of reference will designate corresponding parts throughout, my improved device may be stated to comprise a valve plate c preferably of circular configuration, having a plurality of circular openings f formed therein, and provided with a rivet .yor the like fixed centrally thereof with a portion extending laterally vfrom one of its faces and terminating with a locking head h.
Positioned'overvthe valve plate c and covering the openings f thereof, is a rubbercap d having a curled marginal edge snugly engageable with the adjacentportion of said plate, the cap lying yover that face of the valve platev from ywhich extends the rivet g, and, for that purpose, being provided with an aperture receiving said rivet.
Arranged over the valve plate c and'its cap d, is a valve base a, likewise `formed with an aperture for accommodating the extended portion of the rivet.. A'plurality ofkid'ney shaped openings m disposed in registering relation with the openings'f of the valve p-late c are cut into said base. A series of apertures n are further provided upon the marginal peripheral portion of the valve base g. serving as anchor means when aixing the valve by the ordinary vulcanizing process or otherwise plo the dental plate of any well known construcion.
A rubber disk e may be and is preferably inserted between the adjacent surfaces of the valve plate cap d and valve base a to assure the proper functioning of the valve as will be more fullyv described hereinafter.
They valve plate c with its rubber cap d, the rubber disk e and the valve base a are secured together by means of a ilat spring b attached upon the outer surface of said valve base, arranged radially thereof and engageable with the locking head h of the central rivet g. In this manner, it will be understood that, by action of the spring b, the valve parts associated as hereinbefore described, will be pressed against one another and thus securely fit in their relative positions.
In using my improved device, the air enclosed in the space between the roof of the mouth and the surface of the dental plate, escapes through the kidney shaped openings m in the valve base a and passes out between the valve base a and the rubber disk e, thus creating a reduced pressure within said space. This causes the normal pressure upon the opposite or outer side of the dental plate, to act through the openings f of the valve plate c upon the rubber cap d thereof and force the rubber disk e into the kidney shaped openings m of the valve base a, therefore, hermetically closing the same and maintaining the reduced pressure created in the chamber or face between the palate and dental plate, thus fixing the latter in proper position within the mouth of the wearer.
The flat spring b, it will be understood, being locked to the head h of the securing rivet g, also acts to increase and assure the pressing of the rubbergcap d and disk e against the opening in said valvey base a.
Because the openings in the valve base a are given a kidney shaped configuration, it will be appreciated that registering relation with the circular openings f of the valve plate c is made positive even if said valve base and valve plate are accidentally or otherwise displaced relatively to one another.
Manifestly, the construction shown and/de-l scribed is capable of considerable modications and those modifications which come within the scope of the claims, I consider within'the spirit of the invention. f
What I claim isz- 1. A suction valve for dentures .comprising a valve base having openings therein, a valve plate arranged below said valve base and having openings therein adapted to register with the openings in said base, spring means arranged to urge said plate againstsaid base and a resilient body interposed between said plate and base and adapted to be first gripped between the same and subsequently the registering portions of said body being extruded into the openings in said base by the pressure below said plate.
2. A suction valve for dentures comprising a valve base having openings therein, a valve plate arranged below said valve base and having openings therein adapted to register with the openings in said base, spring means arranged to urge said plate against said base and a resilient body interposed between said plate and base and having a curled marginal edge arranged to engage the periphery of said plate, and adapted to be iirst gripped between the same and subsequently the registering portions of said body being extruded into the openings in said base by the pressure below said plate. ,4
' 3.v A suction valve for -dg'entl'ires-i comprising a base plate having elongated openingst1'e'rein, a valve plate, a resilient cap member and a resilient disk member both interposed between said vbase and valve plates, spring means arranged to urge said valve plate against said resilient members and said base plate, said valve plate having vent openings arranged to register with the openings in said base plate to permit external pressure to extrude said resilient members into the openings in said base plate.
4. A valve for xing a dental plate in position within the mouth of the` wearer, j comprising a valve plate having openings formed'therein,Y a, valve base arranged over said valve plate and provided with openings positioned in registering relation with the openings in said valvefplate, means connected to said valve plate to maintain the same in position over the valve base, spring means associated with said valve plate and arf ranged to resiliently urge said valve plate against said valve base and a resilient body interposed between said valve plateA and saidy valvefbase whereby external pressure against said valve plate will act through the openings therein vdi: rectly against said resilient body to .compress portions lof the same into the ,openings in said 3g
