Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • The present invention relates to a capped screw, and more particularly to a capped screw having a sealing configuration. [0002]
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art [0003]
  • Typical screws are provided for securing the roofing plates together, which are normally provided and disposed on top of the buildings, for forming the roof of the buildings. When the roofing plates are secured together with the screws, water, rain or the other fluid may permeate or flow through the holes formed by the screws. [0004]
  • In order to block or to seal the holes formed in the roofing plates by the screws, a gasket is required to be engaged onto the screws, and to be engaged between the head of the screw and the roofing plate. However, the rain may also have a good chance to permeate or to flow through the gaps between the head of the screw and the gasket and the roofing plate. [0005]
  • The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the conventional capped screws. [0006]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a capped screw including a sealing configuration for preventing water or rain from flowing through the heads of the screws and the objects to be fastened by the screws. [0007]
  • In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided a capped screw comprising a fastener body including a head provided on top thereof, the head including a bottom surface, a gasket engaged onto the fastener body and engaged with the bottom surface of the head, and a cap including a chamber formed therein for receiving the head of the fastener body, and including a downwardly extended peripheral skirt having a lower portion folded radially and inwardly to engage with the gasket and to secure the gasket to the head of the fastener body. [0008]
  • The fastener body includes a peripheral flange extended radially outward from the head and provided between the fastener body and the head, the cap includes a peripheral flap extended radially and outwardly therefrom for engaging onto the peripheral flange of the fastener body, the peripheral flap includes an outer peripheral portion having the peripheral skirt extended downwardly therefrom. [0009]
  • The peripheral skirt includes an inner diameter greater than an outer diameter of the peripheral flange, for forming a peripheral channel between the peripheral skirt and the peripheral flange of the fastener body. The gasket includes a peripheral fence formed thereon and engaged in the peripheral channel provided between the peripheral skirt and the peripheral flange of the fastener body. [0010]
  • Further objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a careful reading of a detailed description provided hereinbelow, with appropriate reference to accompanying drawings.[0011]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an exploded view of a capped screw in accordance with the present invention; and [0012]
  • FIG. 2 is a partial cross sectional view of the capped screw.[0013]
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to the drawings, a capped screw in accordance with the present invention comprises a screw or a [0014] fastener body 4 including a head 41 provided on top thereof, and a peripheral flange 42 extended radially and outwardly from the lower portion of the head 41 or provided between the head 41 and the screw or the fastener body 4.
  • A [0015] gasket 6 is preferably made of rubber, plastic, silicon, teflon, or the other synthetic materials, and includes an orifice 60 formed therein for receiving the body 4, such that the gasket 6 may be engaged with the bottom surface of the peripheral flange 42 and/or the head 41 of the screw or fastener body 4.
  • A [0016] cap 5 includes a chamber 50 formed therein and having a shape corresponding to that of the head 41 for snugly receiving the head 41 of the fastener body 4, and includes a peripheral flap 51 extended radially and outwardly from the middle portion thereof, for engaging onto the peripheral flange 42 of the screw or fastener body 4.
  • The [0017] cap 5 further includes a peripheral skirt 52 extended downwardly from the outer peripheral portion of the peripheral flap 51, for forming or defining a space 53 therein, and for receiving the peripheral flange 42 of the fastener body 4 and the gasket 6. The peripheral skirt 52 includes a lower portion 54 to be folded radially and inwardly to hold or to secure the gasket 6 to the peripheral flange 42 of the body 4.
  • As best shown in FIG. 2, the [0018] peripheral skirt 52 of the cap 5 preferably includes an inner diameter greater than the outer diameter of the peripheral flange 42 of the body 4, for optionally forming a peripheral channel 55 between the peripheral skirt 52 of the cap 5 and the peripheral flange 42 of the body 4.
  • When the lower portion of the [0019] peripheral skirt 52 is folded radially and inwardly to hold or to secure the gasket 6 to the peripheral flange 42 of the body 4, the gasket 6 may be squeezed to form a peripheral fence 61 that may be received in the peripheral channel 55 formed between the peripheral skirt 52 of the cap 5 and the peripheral flange 42 of the body 4.
  • As also best shown in FIG. 2, the middle portion of the [0020] gasket 6 may be arranged to be squeezed to form a peripheral bulge 63 that may be received in or engaged through the bent or folded lower portion 54 of the peripheral skirt 52 for engaging with the objects 7 to be fastened by the screw body 4.
  • It is to be noted that the [0021] gasket 6 may also be forced to engage with the objects 7 by the head 41 when the fastener body 4 is threaded onto the objects 7, in order to make a water tight seal between the head 41 and the objects 7. The gasket 6 may also be directly engaged between the head 41 and the objects 7 without the peripheral flange 42 of the body 4.
  • Accordingly, the capped screw includes a sealing configuration for preventing water or rain from flowing through the heads of the screws and the objects to be fastened by the screws. [0022]
  • Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made by way of example only and that numerous changes in the detailed construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed. [0023]
