Abstract
A decorative device for furniture includes a panel defining at least one opening and a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening. A handle assembly for furniture includes a handle and a decorative device. The decorative device includes a panel on which the handle is mounted and a backing laminated with the panel. The panel defines at least one opening so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
Description
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to decoration for furniture.
- 2. Related Prior Art
- Furniture provides functions for facilitating our daily life. However, furniture is not only equipped with functional elements for practical purposes but also equipped with decorative elements for aesthetic purposes.
- FIGS. 16 and 17 shows two conventional decorative elements1 and 2 for example. The decorative elements 1 and 2 are both made with adequate thickness so that some
recesses 3 and 4 can be defined therein, respectively. Therecesses 3 and 4 are painted with colors different from that of the remaining portion of the decorative elements 1 and 2, respective. However, the definition of therecesses 3 and 4 respectively in thedecorative elements 1 and 3 is troublesome. The painting of therecesses 3 and 4 is both laborious and time-consuming. - The present invention is therefore intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in prior art.
- It is the primary objective of the present invention to provide a decorative device that can be mounted on furniture easily.
- According to the present invention, a decorative device for furniture includes a panel defining at least one opening and a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
- In an aspect, a handle assembly for furniture includes a handle and a decorative device. The decorative device includes a panel on which the handle is mounted and a backing laminated with the panel. The panel defines at least one opening so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
- Other objects, advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the attached drawings.
- The present invention will be described through detailed illustration of embodiments referring to the attached drawings.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a piece of furniture decorated with some decorative devices according to the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is an exploded view of a decorative device including a panel and a backing according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 3 is front view of the decorative device shown in FIG. 2, showing the panel no smaller than the backing.
- FIG. 4 is front view of the decorative device shown in FIG. 2, showing the panel smaller than the backing.
- FIG. 5 is an exploded view of a decorative device including a panel and a backing according to a second embodiment of the present invention.

- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a piece of furniture, i.e., a cabinet decorated with some
decorative devices decorative device 10 is mounted, a big drawer on which twodecorative devices 20 are mounted and two small drawers on each of which twodecorative devices 30 are mounted. - Referring to FIG. 2, the
decorative device 10 includes apanel 11 and abacking 12. The profile of thepanel 11 is similar to that of thebacking 12. Thepanel 11 defines twoopenings 13. When thepanel 11 and thebacking 12 are laminated, portions of thebacking 12 can be observed through theopenings 13. Thepanel 11 defines apolygonal aperture 14. Thebacking 12 defines apolygonal aperture 15 corresponding to thepolygonal aperture 14. Aknob 16 includes apolygonal end 17 corresponding to thepolygonal apertures polygonal end 17 can be inserted through thepolygonal apertures panel 11 and thebacking 12 are assembled and aligned with each other. Referring to FIG. 3, the profile of thepanel 11 may be no smaller than that of thebacking 12. Thus, the profile of thebacking 12 is not exposed from that of thepanel 11. Referring to FIG. 4, the profile of thepanel 11 may be smaller than that of thebacking 12. Thus, the profile of thebacking 12 is exposed from that of thepanel 11. - Referring to FIG. 5, the
decorative device 20 includes apanel 21 and abacking 22. The profile of thepanel 21 is similar to that of thebacking 22. Thepanel 21 defines at least oneopening 23. When thepanel 21 and thebacking 22 are laminated, at least one portion of thebacking 22 can be observed through the at least one opening 23. Thebacking 22 defines twoapertures 25. Ahandle 26 is pivotally mounted on a front side of thepanel 21. Twopins 27 are formed on a rear side of thepanel 21. Thepins 27 can be inserted through theapertures 25 for attachment to the big drawer shown in FIG. 1. Thus, thepanel 21 and thebacking 22 are assembled and aligned with each other. Referring to FIG. 6, the profile of thepanel 21 may be no smaller than that of thebacking 22. Thus, the profile of thebacking 22 is not exposed from that of thepanel 21. Referring to FIG. 7, the profile of thepanel 21 may be smaller than that of thebacking 22. Thus, the profile of thebacking 22 is exposed from that of thepanel 21. - Referring to FIG. 8, the
decorative device 30 includes apanel 31 and abacking 32. The profile of thepanel 31 is similar to that of thebacking 32. Thepanel 31 defines a plurality ofopenings 33. When thepanel 31 and thebacking 32 are laminated, a plurality of portions of thebacking 32 can be observed through theopenings 33. Thebacking 32 defines anaperture 35. Ahandle 36 includes two ends each pivotally mounted on a front side of thepanel 31. Apin 37 is formed on a rear side of thepanel 31. Thepins 37 can be inserted through theaperture 35 for attachment to one of the small drawers shown in FIG. 1. Thus, thepanel 31 and thebacking 32 are assembled and aligned with each other. Referring to FIG. 9, the profile of thepanel 31 may be no smaller than that of thebacking 32. Thus, the profile of thebacking 32 is not exposed from that of thepanel 31. Referring to FIG. 10, the profile of thepanel 31 may be smaller than that of thebacking 32. Thus, the profile of thebacking 32 is exposed from that of thepanel 31. - Referring to FIGS. 11 and 12, according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention, a
decorative device 40 includes apanel 41 and abacking 42. Thepanel 41 is shaped like a dome. Thebacking 42 extends in a plane. The profile of thepanel 41 is similar to that of thebacking 42. Thepanel 41 defines a plurality ofopenings 43. Each of theopenings 43 may be in the form of a slit. When thepanel 41 and thebacking 42 are laminated, a plurality of portions of thebacking 42 can be observed through theopenings 43. Thebacking 42 defines anaperture 45. Thedecorative device 40 can be mounted on atubular handle 46. Abolt 47 extending from thepanel 41 can be inserted through theaperture 45 into thetubular handle 46. Thetubular handle 46 includes an internal face on which athread 48 is formed. Thebolt 47 includes athread 49 for engagement with thethread 48. - Referring to FIGS.13-15, according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention, a
decorative device 50 includes apanel 51 and abacking 52. Thepanel 51 and thebacking 52 are both shaped like a dome. The profile of thepanel 51 is similar to that of thebacking 52. Thepanel 51 defines a plurality ofopenings 53. Each of theopenings 53 may be in the form of a slit. When thepanel 51 and thebacking 52 are laminated, a plurality of portions of thebacking 52 can be observed through theopenings 53. Thebacking 52 defines anaperture 55. Thedecorative device 50 can be mounted on atubular handle 56. Abolt 57 extending from thepanel 51 can be inserted through theaperture 55 into thetubular handle 56. Thetubular handle 56 includes an internal face on which athread 58 is formed. Thebolt 57 includes athread 59 for engagement with thethread 58. - The present invention has been described via illustration of some embodiments. The applicant gives these embodiments only as examples, and those skilled in the art can derive variations from the embodiments after a study of this specification. Therefore, these embodiments shall not limit the scope of the present invention that is defined in the following claims.
Claims (19)
1. A decorative device for furniture including:
a panel defining at least one opening; and
a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
2. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel is no smaller than the backing so that a profile of the backing is not exposed from that of the panel.
3. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel is smaller than the backing so that a profile of the backing is exposed from that of the panel.
4. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel defines an aperture, and the backing defines an aperture corresponding to the aperture defined in the panel, the decorative device includes a pin for insertion through the apertures for aligning the panel with the backing.
5. The decorative device according to claim 4 wherein the apertures and the pin all include a polygonal profile.
6. The decorative device according to claim 1 wherein the panel defines two apertures, and the backing defines two apertures corresponding to the apertures defined in the panel, the decorative device includes two pins for insertion through the polygonal apertures for aligning the panel with the backing.
7. A handle assembly for furniture including a handle and a decorative device including:
a panel including a side on which the handle is mounted and at least one opening defined therein; and
a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
8. The handle assembly according to claim 7 wherein the panel includes two pins formed an opposite side, and the backing defines two apertures for receiving the pins.
9. The handle assembly according to claim 7 wherein the handle is pivotally mounted on the panel.
10. A handle assembly for furniture including a handle with two ends and two decorative devices each including:
a panel including a side on which one of the ends of the handle is mounted and at least one opening defined therein; and
a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
11. The handle assembly according to claim 10 wherein the panel includes a pin formed an opposite side, and the backing defines an aperture for receiving the pins.
12. The handle assembly according to claim 7 wherein each of the ends of the handle is pivotally mounted on the panel of one of the decorative devices.
13. A knob assembly for furniture including a handle and a decorative device attached to the handle and including a panel defining at least one opening and a backing laminated with the panel so that at least one portion of the backing can be observed through the at least one opening.
14. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the panel is shaped like a dome.
15. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the backing extends in a plane.
16. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the backing is shaped like a dome.
17. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the at least one opening is in the form of a slit.
18. The knob assembly according to claim 13 wherein the panel includes a bolt extending from a side thereof, and the backing defines an aperture for receiving the bolt, and the knob is tubular for receiving the bolt.
19. The knob assembly according to claim 18 wherein the tubular handle includes a thread formed on an internal face thereof, and the bolt includes a thread for engagement with the thread of the tubular handle.
