Abstract
The purpose of this invention is to greatly reduce the oxidation of liquids after the original sealed bottle or container has been opened. When some of the liquid has been removed, an equal volume of air is introduced. This air, in many cases, causes oxidation of the liquids and makes them unusable. What is new with this invention is using common sense by limiting the surface area of the liquid that comes into contact with the introduced air to solve the age-old problem of oxidation. How many thousands (millions) of bottles of wine have been poured down the drain because they went bad because of oxidation or how many thousands (millions) of cans of paint have been have been tossed out (to landfills) because the paint had hardened because of oxidation! These are but two of many examples of liquids that can have their useful life extended with this invention.
Description
- Method and or apparatus to reduce the oxidation of liquids including wine, whiskey, oils, paint and others after the original sealed bottle or container has been opened for the first time or is placed into the original bottle, can or container when filled for the first time by the manufacturer.
- The method and or apparatus consist of polypropylene or similar membrane of various sizes to fit the particular bottle or container configuration. The membrane is inserted into the bottle or container and designed to float on top of the liquid. This floating membrane minimizes the surface area that comes into contact with oxygen or air that is introduced when some of the liquid is poured out or removed from the bottle or container thereby reducing the oxidation and increasing the expected life or use of the liquid.
- This product was invented as a result of my personal experiences with liquids oxidizing after the original bottle or container had been opened and all of the liquid was not consumed or used. Typical examples are:
- 1. The taste of wine adversely changing when not consumed within a reasonable time after being opened for the first time.
- 2. The taste of whiskey adversely changing when not consumed within a reasonable time after being opened for the first time.
- 3. The taste of olive oil, flaxseed oil, pumpkin oil and other oils adversely changing when not consumed or used within a reasonable time after being opened for the first time.
- 4. The texture and color of oil based and latex paint being adversely changed after the container has been opened and not used within a reasonable time.
- The advantage of using this product threefold:
- 1. Save money by not having to discard the various products when oxidation occurs.
- 2. Reduce the natural resources required to manufacturer the product, packaging and transportation the products.
- 3. Reduce the amount of products that are discarded into landfills and the recourses required to transport and recycle the extra materials.
- The drawings show a typical wine or whiskey bottle, olive oil container and paint can with the invention.
Claims (3)
1. This invention will save money and time (by not having to replace the purchased product before it is completely consumed or used).
2. This invention will save natural resources (by not having to produce more products then are actually needed).
3. This invention will save recycling resources (by not having to recycle the additional products that would have to have been produced by not using this invention).
