:Application June 19, 19s4,seria1N .f7s1, 72 i .JI'his invention refers to advertising devices and more'aparticularlyto those adapted for use in public vehicles, andhas foritsobjects to provide amechanism in the devices that will enable them to produce horizontal, vertical and cross-wise movements.
Another object is to havethe device noiseless and capable of giving active movements instead of a slow andmonotonous nature. A further object is to provide several types. of move.
ments in the same device: Other objects will become apparent as the invention is more fully set forthym The invention consists in the details of constructionand in the combination and arrange- -ment of the several parts, whereby advantages are attained which will be hereinafter more fully I indicated.
l represents a card or background on which an advertising outline is provided. A man's face 2 is indicated with the eyes 3 moveable in a VGItl-r cal and side-wise or horizontal direction. The lower lip, or chin, 4 is also moveable up and down or in a vertical direction, and when it does so, shows more or less of the bottom teeth. A hand 5 moves horizontally and has a tooth brush 6.
that moves with it. At the lower portion of the background is provided a tooth-paste tube 1 with its cap 8 located immoveably, while the rest of I the tube can move back and forth at an angle,
showing tooth cream between the top of the tube and its cap as it does so.
The eyes consist of round discs 9 of any suitable material supported on delicate springs 10 above, attached to pins H on the frame of the background. The discs 9 have wire rods I2 connected below and slightly weighted at [3, while a cross-brace l4 connects them so they will be the same distance apart. Rubber stops 34 limitthe upward and downward movement of the crossbrace, while the rubber stops l5 limit the side.-
wise or horizontal movement. The moveable lip or chin 4 is attached to a delicate spring 16 and vice shakes from time to time.
a'ol nhs. (01. 40-138) rod ll which runs in a guide staple l8 and has a weight IQ for keeping thespring in tension, on thepingll; I y
The and ,5'is attached to a pendulum rod 20 secured to'pin 2| at the point 22 and weight 3|. Thependulum swings and is limited in its travel by the slot 23 in the background. This swing gives the hand a back and forth movement and makes-the brush move over the teeth.
The tube. 1 is attached to a rod 24at 25 andis kept delicately tensioned by springs 26 secured at 21.; gAs thertubemoves, itmoves away from the cap and afterwards towards it. Strings 40 tie the various mechanisms together.
The operation of the whole device is as follows. The vehicle in which the device is used, is jolted in its transportation and gives the advertising de- These shakings jolt the weights connected with the eyes and cause the springs to act, making the eyes move up and down and side-wise. The rubber stops limiting the movement and giving an action of their own in aInoiseles's manner.
At the same time, the lip orchin moves up and down and the hand and brush move with a horizontal swing. The tube also moves in an angular direction from the cap and this gives an animated movement which the observer is compelled to watch.
It is readily appreciated that the device is very interesting from an advertising point of view, and
is comparatively simple, and is characteristic in that the motions are not definitely controlled but a may follow a varied system of actions due to the independence of the parts and the difierent manner of motivating them. 7
While but one form of the invention is shown in the drawing, it is not desired to limit this application for patent to this particular construction or in any other way otherwise than limited by the prior art, as it is known that other constructions could be used using the same principles and coming within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of thejclass described, comprising a background panel with a face painted thereon having openings at the positions of the eyes, eye discs representing eye balls and pupils resiliently mounted on the background card behind said openings, with guides to permit a movement upand-down thereof and a relatively slight horizontal movement, a member representing-a hand mounted on the front side of the panel and adapted to have a horizontal movement, a pendulum link to so operate the hand, a member representing the lower lips and jaw of the face mounted on the front of the panel, a link for resiliently suspending the last mentioned member and having a weight attached thereto all adapted to give vertical movements tothe same, a member representing a product mounted on the front of the panel in a slanting direction and having resilient attachments thereto, and a plurality of links in-. terconnected with said discs, hand member, aw member and product members to make them actuate with each other. I v
2. In a device of the class described comprising a background panel having a face painted: thereon having openings at the positions of the eyes,v
the lower jaw, and at other places: thereon, e'ye discs representing eye pupils resiliently mounted on said panel behind said openings and having links connected therewith to restrict the movement thereof, a member representing a hand direction, springs and rod memberson the'back of the panel and attached through one of said openings to the said commercial article member and adapted to give the same a restricted slanting directional movement, and a plurality of strings for tieing the said links together.
3. In a device of the class described having a panel with a face painted thereon with: openings at the'position of the eyes, the combination of discs with eye balls painted thereon mounted in "back of said openings, a plurality of springs attachedto" the discs for resiliently actuating and supporting the same, weighted links cross connected attached toj the discs and adapted to give them erratic vertical and horizontal movements, a member'representing a hand and tooth brush mounted on the front of the panel with the brush in line with the mouth of the said face and adapted to: move to-and-fro, links mounted on the backof the panel having a pendulumand weighfi'and a connection extending through the panel to support and move the hand. member aforementionedya member representing a jaw for said face and positioned to coact with the representation' of the face on thepanel, links, weight, spring and guide. staples for actuating the jaw member and' mounted on the'back' of the'panel, a
member representing acommercial article mounted on the panel; and: resiliently attached thereto, and a plurality of strings for tieing the said: links and: actuating the variousmembers.-
