mountingi'or the sash lock of a window sash, an object being to provide a construction by f which the same means that are employed for cormectr ing the side strap of the sash to theV bottom rail are employed for securing the sash lock, to the end that a structure is provided which is of very simple, light and sturdy construction, having a minimum of exposed securing means, and which may be assembled and disassembled with great facility.
With the above and other objects in view an embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing and this embodiment will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto, and the invention will be finally pointed out in the claims.

Fig. 1 is a fragmentary inside elevation of the lower corner of the window sash, carrying the sash lock, according to the exemplary illustrated embodiment of the invention.

Similar numerals of references will be used to denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, the Window sash comprises a glass I, having a top rail (not shown) a bottom rail 2, and a pair of vertical side straps 3 connecting the top and bottom rails, only one of these straps being shown.
The bottom rail 2 is of channel shape to receive the lower edge of the glass. Upon the inner surface of each side of the channel longitudinally extending reinforcing ribs 4 4 are provided intermediate the top and bottom of the channel, and in the base of the channel there is provided a longitudinal groove 5 of corresponding width to the spacing of the ribs 4 4 for receiving the bracket tongue of the inside strap as will presently more fully appear. The edge of the glass I is bound with glazing tape 6 and when inserted in the channel of the rail the ribs 4 4 act as stops to limit the depth to which the glass may be engaged. The lower edge of the rail is provided with the usual sealing strip 1 of rubber, felt or the like, for engaging the sill.
The side strap 3 is of channel shape to receive the vertical edge of the glass, and at its lower end is provided with a horizontally projecting bracket tongue 8V secured at one end between the two sides ofthe strap by'a transverse rivet 9.- is adapted to be engaged in the 'end of the channel' of the bottomra-il 2,- seatingin' the groove 5 at itslow'erportion and disposed: between the Iongitournants-4 5 et its of transverse binding vscrews extendingthrough the rail andi-through apertures to and if in the tongue secure the latter to the rail, and, in accordance with the present invention, these screws also secure the sash lock in place, as will now 10 appear.
The sash lock is of well known construction comprising a casing portion I2, in which the rackengaging dog I 3 is pivoted at I4 and the operating lever I5 is pivoted at I6, an extension I'I of the l5 Vcasing being provided with a hand-lift lip or A circular boss I9 is formed upon the inner side of the lock casing I 2 and is adapted to engage a circular recess formed in the side of the 20 rail 2 in transverse alignment with the aperture Ill of the bracket tongue 8, a threaded socket 2| being provided in said boss, in axial alignment with the aperture I Il and with an aperture 22. in the inner leg of the rail and a counter-sunk aperture 23 in the outer leg of the rail. A screw 24 is passed through the apertures 23,v Il) and 22 and is screwed into the socket 2l to thus secure the bracket tongue 8 and sash lock case-in place,
the screw at the same time drawing the two sides of the rail tightly together against the glass.
The extension portion I1 of the lock casing is also secured in a substantially similar manner by a binding screw comprising a tubular internally threaded part 25, engaged in a counter-sunk aper- 35 ture 26 in the outer leg of the rail and extended into the aperture I I of the bracket tongue, and an exteriorly threaded screw part 21 engaged in a counter-sunk aperture 28 in the vextension and extending through an aperture 29 in the inner leg 40 of the rail into threaded engagement with thev tubular Vpart 25. `It will be understood that instead of the two partbinding screw 25-21 a single screw similar to the. screw 24 may be employed in which case a threaded socket for receiving the l screw may be provided either in the outer legV of the channel, or in the extension I'I.
The sash lock may be further secured by means of an intermediate screw 30 engaged through the extension portion intermediate the pair of binding n screws, but this screw 30 preferably only takes into the inner leg of the rail. I have illustrated and described a preferred and satisfactory embodiment of the invention, but it will be obvious that changes may be made therein, within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.` A n l Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. In a window construction, a glass panel, a horizontal rail of channel formV receiving a horizontal edge of "said glass panel, said' rail having a vertical end and its channel including an upper glass receiving portion and a lower portion forming a horizontal passage below `said glasvslpanel and open at said .vertical end, a removable vertical side strap of channel form? receiving a-'vertical edge of said glass panel having a horizontal extension member permanently secured thereto, said extension member being removably engaged longitudinally within said lower portion of the channel of said rail, the vertical inner edge of saidv side strap engaging lthe vertical end-ofsaid rail,
a lock casing engaged-upon one side of said rail, and unitary fasteningmeans extendingbetween the sides of said rail-,and securing said lock casing exteriorly of saidrailand said extension interiorly of said rail, said fasteningmeansadapted to draw said sides of the rail toward each other into binding relation with said extension and with the sides of the glass panel within said rail.
2. In a window construction, a glass panel, a horizontal rail of channel form receiving a horlzontal edge of said glass panel, said rail having a vertical end and its channel including an upper glass receiving portion and a lower portion forming a horizontal passage below said glass panel and openv at sai'dverticalend, a removable' vertical side strap of channel form receivingY a vertical edge of said glass panel having a horizontal extension member permanently secured thereto,
