This invention relates to auxiliary printing devices and more particularly to attachments of thischaracter which may be applied to printing presses of various kinds in order to obtain a plurality of impressions during a single cycle of operation of the press; each of such impressions to be made in a different color if so desired.
The general object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved printing attachment of this class which is of sturdy construction, of eicient and compact arrangement, and capable of ready installation, adjustment and operation.
Although in its broader'aspects, the inventio-n may include printing mechanism'of general application, in its preferred embodiment, the invention contemplates the provision of a rotary auxiliary printing attachment for a two-revolution bed and cylinder press such as the wellknown Kelly press. Means are provided for intermittently and automatically moving the printing member of the attachment into and out of Contact with the impression cylinder; such contact preferably being effected during the normal 'printing strokev of the press cycle and prior to the taking of an impression from the `form on the reciprocating bed. Positively actuated means are also provided for moving the rolls or cylinders of the auxiliary printing attachment to an inoperative position in case it is desired to operate the press as a single impression machine.
My no-vel attachment may be arranged'for either offset or relief printing, and practical embodiments are disclosed in the present specification and accompanying drawings exemplifying both of these arrangements. For certain kinds of color work, the oifset method may be especially preferred. Inthis connection, my invention has the further object of providing certain convenient arrangements and adjustments of the blan ret and plate cylinders or their counterparts in the offset attachment.

In Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, the auxiliary offset printing attachment is designated generally by the numeral I0, and includes a pair of side frames or brackets I I, each of which is suitably secured to the side frames I2 of the printing press designated generally by the numeral I5. The sideframes of the attachment III are connected to each other by certain shafts or cross yrods which extend from one side of the press to the other, and comprise operative portions 'of the attachment. Suitable tie rods or other additional cross bracing means may be employed if desired.`
`The press, which is illustrated in the drawings for. an exemplary embodiment of the invention,
is of the Well-known Kelly type and is disclosed Ain greater detail than in the present application in my Patent No. 1,336,841 and others referred to below. This press is of l'the two-revolution bed and cylinder type, but it is conceivable that the 'auxiliary printing attachments forming the sub- 'ject of the present invention may be applied to presses of'other types within the scope of certain of the broader claims.
The press I5 is provided witha base frame or support I6 whichv houses the greater portion of the driving mechanism and serves to support the superstructure of the press whichvcomprises the side frames I2, which carry the reciprocating bed I'I, and the sheet feeding portion I8 of the press located at the right hand end thereof as seen in Figure l. Inking mechanism I9 is provided in connection with the reciprocating bed I1 and is driven by suitable gearing connected in a conventional way with the main source of power for the press.

On one end of the shaft 2I,-the remote end as seen in Figures 1 and 2-there is secured a gear or pinion 25 by means of which the driving force is transmitted to the impression cylinder. In this type of two-revolution press, means must be provided for lowering and raising the impression cylinder into and out of printing contact with therecip- This mechanism may be of any suitable type, but is preferably ofthe general type illustrated and described in Patent No. 1,096,036 issued to me on May12, 1914. Certain portions of this mechanism are shown in Figure l and comprise the rocker arm 26, the link 21 and the cam lever 28. The last named element is guided within the cam groove 29 provided in the multiple cam member 30.
The supply of sheets to be printed is carried at the right hand end of the press, the pile of sheets being elevated inV a well-known manner so that individual sheets may be fed from the top thereof by suitable mechanism carried by the feeding portion I8 of the press. The sheet feeding means includes the feed table 32 and the conveyor arms 33, the former being pivoted to the frame I8 as at 34 and the latter adjacent the camshaft 35. The general arrangement of this feeding means together with the sheet detectors and certain other details, are illustrated and described in my Patent No. 1,787,532 of January 6, 1931. The sheet detector referred to is shown at 36 in the drawings and is suitably connected with the sheet feeding mechanism, a portion of which is' shown at 31.
Since the auxiliary printing device occupies the places where the front sheet stops and margin rolls lare generally located, these elements are disposed, in accordance with the present invention, upon the opposite side of the impression cylinder 20 and are associated with the pivoted feed mechanism of the press. The margin roll is shown at 38 and is carried by the T-rail 39 upon which it may be adjusted laterally of the feed board 32. The front stop 40 is carried by the lever arm 4I which is pivoted at 42 and is adapted to be intermittently raisediby the operating mechanism comprising the crank or rocker 43, the link-44, and the camlever 45. The cam lever 45 is operated by the cam 46, which is secured to the cam shaft 35 which also carries other operating elements associated with the sheet feeding end of the press.
As the sheets are successively fed to the impression cylinder 20 by the means just described, they are seized by the grippers 48 at the proper instant and are carriedaround the impression cylinder to be printed. Suitable mechanism for actuating the gripper's 48 is provided and maf.r follow the disclosures in the W. M. Kelly Patents 1,092,998, April 14, 1914; 1,227,450, May 22, 1917, or 1,339,654 of May 1l, 1920. A portion of this mechanism is shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings and includes the cam. lever 49 which is operated by the lateral cam surface 50 associated with the multiple cam member 39. The lever 49 is pivoted at I and is provided at its upper end with a bifurcated yoke 52 suitably connected with the gripper actuating mechanism disposed within the impression vcylinder 20.
Suitable sheet delivery mechanism is provided at the left hand side of the press as shown in the drawings, and a portion of which isindicated at 54.4 In order to remove the printed sheet from the impression cylinder 20, there are provided stripper fingers 55 which are actuated by the rocker arm 56 and the link 5l, which are connected to the cam lever 58. One end of this lever is disposed in rolling contact with the cam surface 59 associated with the multiple cam member 30.
My novel rotary auxiliary printing attachment as applied to the press for eiecting offset or planographic work comprises the plate cylinder 68 and the blanket cylinder 'i8 which are carried respectively by the shafts 62 and 63. The opposite ends of the shaft 62 are mounted in the bearings 64 which are carriedl by the vertically disposed sliding blocks 65. Upon one end of the shaft 62 there is secured a gear 61 which normally meshes with a corresponding gear 68 carried by the end of the blanket rcylinder shaft 63. This gear 68 in turn meshes with the impression cylinder` gear 25 in the normal operation of the printing attachment. The slides G5 are disposed within suitable openings in the side frames II of the auxiliary attachment and are retained by the inner and outer guide flanges G9. The slides 65 which carry the plate and blanket cylinders are arranged for vertical movement so that these cylinders may be brought into and out of printing contact with the impression cylinder. The mechanism for accomplishing this vertical sliding movement includes the rocking levers 12 which are secured upon the opposite ends of the shaft ill which extends from one side of the attachment tothe other. Each of the levers 'l2 is provided with bifurcated ends 'l5 which embrace the pin 15 which is secured to the adjacent slide 65. The lever 'I2 on one side of the attachment is provided with an extension 11 which is pivotally connected with link 'I8 which, in turn, is pivoted to one end of the rocking cam lever '19, which is pivotally secured to the lower projecting ends of one of the side frames II as at 60. The opposite end 8l of the cam lever T9 is disposed in rolling contact with the cam surface 85 on lthe multiple cam 39. This cam surface 85, which is the only one associated with the auxiliary attachment,
may be formed as an integral part of the cam member` 30 or may be separately applied to the multiple cam member originally provided with a press of this type. The cam surface 85 is, of course, so shaped as to cause the slides 65 to reciprocate at the proper times during the cycle of operation of the press.
Preferably the plate and blanket cylinders are moved downwardly so that the blanket cylinder makes a printing impression upon the sheet carried by the impression cylinder 20 just after the grippers 48 have seized the sheet and the impression cylinder has begun to descend to effect printing contact with the bed I1. Thus the oiset impression made by the blanket cylinder 'I0 is effected rst and the sheet is then carried around the impression cylinder to receive the impression from the form on the bed. The blanket cylinder remains in contact with the impression cylinder during the necessary portion of its rotation and then is raised during the remainder of the complete double revolution cycle of the press. The vertical movement of the cylinders 60 and 'I0 is of the magnitude of only approximately 1/8 of an inch and this is insufcient to disengage the teeth of the gears 25 and 68, and thus the cylinders of the attachment continue to rotate during the entire operation of the press. Thus they may be vcontinually inked and dampened during both In, order to 1regulate the pressureof the impression in the auxiliary printing couple, there is provided an adjustable 'mechanism comprising rods 8l which are pivotallysecured as at 88 upon each of the side frames I. The'upperends of these shafts are adapted toA project loosely through openings in `the pivoted lugs 90 carried by levers l2. Adjustable nuts 9| are threaded upon the lower ends of the shafts or .rods''I and the coil springs 09 are compressed between ,the lugs 90 and the nuts 9| to degrees which are regulatable by means of varying the positions of the nuts 9|. It will be seen that the springs 80 exert an upward pressure` to partially counterbalance the weight of the cylinders 60 and 'I0 and thus adjust the printing contact .of the at-l tachment. The spring action just described may be reversed by appropriate changes` inthe construction, if the weight of the printing mechanism is less than the desired' pressure between the blanket and impression cylinders.
When it is desired to operate the press I5 as a simple bed and cylinder machine, theauxiliary impression may be thrown off by means of manual rotation of the lever 95 which is pivotally secured at 90 upon one of the frames `l l and whichl causes the eccentric cam 01 to contact with the surface 98 provided upon the extension lof one of the rocking levers I2 in order to depress this arm and thus raise the slides 65 sufficiently not only to move the blanket cylinder 'i0 out of printing Contact With the impression cylinderv 2|)l but also to disengage the teeth of the gears 25 and 58. By this movement, the end 8| of the cam lever I9 is moved away from the cam surface B5 and the auxiliary attachment is completely disassociated from the usual operating mechanism of the bed and cylinder press. The position of the principal parts of the auxiliaryvattachment when the impression is thus thrown off is clearly indicated in Figure 5 of the drawings.
In order to separate the blanket cylinderrfrom the plate cylinder 60 while inking up or for any other reason, the following means are provided. It will be noted that the bearings of the shaft 63, which are carried by the slide 65, are eccentric bearings and are provided with the arms |0I. VThe ends of theA arms or levers |0| are connected by the extensible links |02 with the cranks |03 and |04, each secured upon one end of the shaft |05 which extends across the press. The crank |04 upon the near side of the press as seen in Figures l and 2 is longer than the opposite crank |03 and is provided with a handle |011` upon its outer end. A latch I 08 is pivoted at |09 upon one of the side frames I I so as to underlie the llever |04 when moved against the stop ||0 and to prevent downward movement of this lever. The latch |08 is urged against the stop ||0 by means of the spring III. When it is desired to separate the cylinder l0 from the cylinder 60, the latch is moved to its dottedline position shown in Figure 5, whereupon the lever |04 may be moved downwardly to its dotted line position and the eccentric bearing |00 rotated within the slides 05 andv about the blanket cylinder axle 63 so as to move the blanket cylinder to its dotted line position and thus separate it from the plate cylinder B0.
As illustrated in Figure 5, this separation has been effected while the attachment is in its elevated position out =of contact with the impression cylinder 20. This separation, however, may be accomplished at any time since the cylinders 60 and A'I0 bear upon the impressionI cylinder 20 only by virtue of their own weight, and it will be vreadily understood that when. the lever |04 is rotated while the auxiliary impression is on, thev effect will be toraise the plate cylinder 60 from the blanket cylinder 'I0 together with the associated slides 65,' levers 62, etc. It is to be noted `that when'the lever |04 is held in place by the latch |08 as shown in full lines in the variousgures of the drawings, the rise and fall of the cylinders 60 and 'I0 during the normal operation of the attachment has no appreciable effect in rotating the eccentric bearing |00. The length of the connection |02 is so great in proportion to the extent of vertical movement of the attachment, and the angular movement of the eccentric bearing |00 necessary to separate the cylinders 30 'and 'I0 is also of such magnitude, that the normal Vertical movement of the cylinders during operation does not affect the relation between the individual cylinders.
' -In 'order to attain a very iine adjustment of the pressure of the plate cylinder 60 upon the blanket cylinder "I0, the turnbuckle I I5 is provided in the extensible link |02. By rotation of the turnbuckle H5 the effective length of the links |02 may be altered in order to adjust the rotated position of the eccentric bearing bushing |00 and thus the contact ofthe plate and blanket cylinders.
The rubber blanket or other offset .printing medium i i6 is secured upon the blanket cylinder I0 by means of the clampsindicated at I|.| and I i8, and it will be seen that the blanket I |6 does not extend completely around the periphery ofthe cylinder. Similarly the plate of the plate Cylinder is secured by the clamps |2| and |22 anda corresponding gap isA provided in this cylinder. At a certain marked position shown especially in Figure 2 of the drawings; the gaps between the ends of the blanket I0 and the'plate |20 aredisposed in such a position with relation to the feed board 32 and the conveyor arms 33 of the sheet feeding mechanism that sufcient clearance lis provided for the projecting ends thereof, especially with respect to the front stop 40, so that the' board 32 and the conveyor arms 33 A may be raised to permit access to the inking mechanism ISI` or other portions of thepress. The arc of movement of the outermost portion of the feeding mechanism, represented by the front stop or guide 5.0,.is `indicated by the line |23, that of the sheet detector 30 by the line |23', and the pathof the extreme end of the feed board 32 is shown at |24;
The inking mechanism for the auxiliary printing attachment will now be described. ,The upstanding bracket portion is provided oneach of the side members I of the attachment and is designed to provide a stationary support for the ink fountain |20 within which rotates the ink fountain roll |21. A ratchet wheel |28 is secured tothe fountain roll and is driven by the vratchet |20 provided on the rocker |30 actuated by the link i3 I, which is operatively connected to a suitable cam or other power driven mechanism not shown. A ductor roll I 33 is provided with an axle |34 carried inthe U-shaped bearings |35 on the arms which are pivoted at |31 to the bracket I 38 carried by the bracket portions |25 of the side frames II. The rocking ductor roll carrying lever is intermittently actuated at the proper intervals by the link |39, whichl is also driven by suitable meansrnot illustrated. A rider roll HID-retained by the latches or hooks-MI is adapted to secure the ductor roll |33 Within its bearings.
The, ductor 1011 asin mensual arrangement is designed to. transfer the ink from the fountain roll |21 to the vibrator roll |44. This vibrator roll is carried by the bracket |45 which is secured as at |46 to the vertically reciprocating slide block 65. Thus the vibrator roll and its associated mechanism are caused to follow the movements of the plate cylinder. The longitudinally reciprocating movements of the vibrator roll are effected by means of the lever |48 which ispivoted at' |49 j to the bracket |45, One end of the lever |48 is guided within a cam slot |50 provided in a sleeve |5| carried by the plate cylinder axle 62. The opposite end of the lever |48 is provided with means engaging a circular groove in the member |52 carried by the shaft |53 of the vibrator roll. It will be readily seen that by this arrangement an endwise movement of the vibrator roll |44 is attained. The brackets |45 upon opposite sides of the attachment may be secured together by means of a tie rod |55. Rider rolls |51 and |58 are applied to the vibrator roll |44, the rolls |58 being carried by the bearing member |59 which may be secured by the nut |60 at suitable points along the lslot |6| so as to equalize the pressures of the rolls |58 against the vibrator roll. Form rolls |65 are provided and suitable means for securing them to the bracket |45 may comprise the trunnions |66`which are secured in the slots |61 as by means of the nuts I 68. By this means the form rolls |85 may be disposed so as to be equally spaced from the vibrator roll |44 by plate cylinder 60.
The water roll mechanism for properly dampening theplate-on the plate cylinder 60 is preferably -arranged as follows. A water roll |10 is provided with an axle |12, which rotates in the bearings |13 carried by the bracket |15 which is in turn secured to the upwardly projecting arm |16 of the side frames 'Ihe water roll dips into the water pan |14. A pulley |11 is secured to the axle |12 of the water roll and is adapted to be driven by the belt |18 which is trained around the driving pulley |19 carried by the plate roll axle 62. An idler pulley |80 carried by the pivoted arm |8| is adapted to take up the slack in the belt |18 as l the plate cylinder 60 rises. A ductor roll |83 is carried by the arms |84 which are pivoted at |85 to the side frame members. A crank |86 is secured to the arms |84 and is connected by means of the link |81 with a pin |88 eccentrically mounted with respect to the cam shaft 35 carried by the sheet feeding end I8 of the press. A lost motion connection between the lever |86 and the link |81 is provided by means of the slot |89. By this means the ductor roll |83 is intermittently moved from the Water roll |18 to the plate contacting roller |90. This roller |90 is adapted to reciprocate vertically Within the elongated U- shaped bearings I8| carried by the bracket |92 secured to the side frame during movement of the plate cylinder.
From the foregoing description, it will be readily apparent that the greater portions of the inking and dampening devices are carried by the slides 65 so as to movejvertically with rthe plate and blanket cylinders 60 and 10 and that the stationary fountain portionsV of these devices are intermittently placed in communication with the fountain mechanism by means of the ductor rolls |33 and |83. y
The embodiment illustrated in Figure 6 of rthe drawings comprises only a plate cylinder 210 together with its supporting side frames or bracket 2| and its operating mechanism which will now be described. The axle or shaft 263 of the plate cylinder is mounted in bearings carried by the blocks 285 which may reciprocate vertically Within the frames 2||. Levers 212 are pivoted to the cross shaft 214 and are each provided at one end with kan elongated slot 215 Within which is received the pin 216 projecting from each of the slides 285. The extended arm 211 of one of the levers 212 is operatively connected by means of link 218 with a cam (not shown) corresponding to that designated 85 in the embodiment previously described. The arm 211 is provided with a recess 290 within which is seated a coil spring 289 which surrounds the stud or rod 281 secured as at 288 to one of the side members 2| A spring stop 29| may be adjustably positioned upon the rod 281 to control the degree of compression of the spring 289. This spring arrangement is adapted to regulate the degree of pressure between the impression cylinder and the auxiliary plate cylinder 210.
The impression may be thrown oir by means of the hand lever 295 which is pivoted at 296 and adapted to operate the cam 291 which bears against the surface 298 on the arm 211. Rotation of this cam 298 will raise the cylinder 210 together with its driving gear (not shown) out of operative Contact with the impression cylinder 20 and its driving gear in a manner similar to that described in connection with the device illustrated in Figures 1,-5 of the drawings.
An ink fountain 226 is supported by an upstanding portion 225 of the side frames 2|| and a fountain roller 221 is indicated somewhat diagrammatically in Figure 6 and is operated by such well-known mechanism as, for example, the pawl and ratchet device shown in Figure 2. A ductor roll 233 is carried by the arms 236 pivoted at 231 and its axle 234 is retained within its bearings 235 as by means of the latch 24|. The crank 240 is also secured to the shaft 231, around the axis of which the levers 236 swing, and the link 239 is adapted to be operated by suitable cam or other mechanism to move the ductor roller 233 between the fountain roll 221 and the vibrator roll 244. The vibrator roller is carried by the shaft or axle 253 for rotation in bearings supported by the upstanding bracket portions 245 of the sliding blocks 285. The vibrator roll 244 is reciprocated longitudinally by means of the lever 248 pivoted at 249 to the bracket 245. A projection 250 is provided on the lower end of the lever 248 and is adapted to be guided in a cam groove provided in the sleeve 25| secured upon the axle 263. A projection 252 is formed upon the upper end of the lever 248 and is received within a circular groove provided in the member 254 carried by the axle 253 of the vibrator roll. A pair of rider rolls 258 is carried in adjustable bearings 259 and rotates in contact with the vibrator roll 244. Form rolls 265 are carried in bearings 266 which may be adjusted by suitable means diagrammatically illustrated at 268 so as to effect the proper contact between the vibrator roll 244 and the plate cylinder 210.
The plate carried by the cylinder 210 is provided with a suitable gap or cut-away portion to provide clearness for the sheet feeding mechanism just as in the embodiment previously described.
It will be understood that any desired form of printing impression may be accomplished by the bed |1 of the press whether relief, intaglio, or planographic; and that, in the case of two color work, any color may be applied by either the bed or the auxiliary attachment, although, in general, the bed form may be employed for black typography and the .aux'ina'ry besef attachment for applying designs in color. "Similarly the plate cylinders which have been described may be arranged for printing by any. of the named processes which areapplicable thereto andthe blanket cylinder, of course, is employed to eiect offset printing. 1 I f It is also within the purview of the present in vention to provide eccentric cranked bearings for either the plate or the blanket cylinders and means for rotating such bearing to separate the cylinders by either lowering the blanket cylinder as described, or raising the plate cylinder.
It is understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the embodiments herein illustrated and described without depart-` ing from the scope of theinvention as deiined in the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desiredto be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a printing press'of the bed and cylinder type, an auxiliary printing attachment comprising a pair of side frames adapted to be secured to the frame of the press" and to extend upwardly above the same, a printing cylinder having the usual opening in its peripheral surface mounted in said side frames for vertical bodily movement therein and disposed labove the impression cylinder of the press, means Vfor effecting said bodily movement of thepr'inting cylinder to make printing contact jwithsaid iin-Z pression cylinder, and paper feeding mechanism pivotally mounted at one end of the press and terminating adjacent the impression cylinder, saidopening inthe peripheral surface of said printing cylinder providing clearance for the end of the feeding' mechanism when it is raised about its pivot for gaining access-to the portions of the press beneath thesame.

In an auxiliary printing attachment for printing presses having an impression.. cylinder and mechanism for feeding sheets thereto, the latter comprising a driven cam shaft for operating the same, in combination, fountain mechanism disposed in operative relation with the cylinders of said attachment and located abovefsaid impression cylinder; said fountain mechanism including a fountainf roller and a pivotally mountedv ductor roller, linkage connecting said pivoted ductor roller with an eccentric pivot carriedby said cam shaft Vwhereby. the swinging of the ductor roller is controlled from the sheet feeding cam shaft.

In an auxiliary printing attachment for printing presses, in combination, a supporting frame, bearing supporting members mounted for vertical, reciprocation in said frame, bearings in said members, a printing roll carried by said bearings, a lever pivoted intermediate its length to said frame and having one end thereof operatively connected with said bearing supporting members, means connected with the opposite end of said lever-to intermittently rock the lever and thus reciprocate said roll into and out of impression contact with the impressionmember of the press, and adjustable resilient means between a portion'of said frame and said lever for regulating the pressure of the printing contact lof v said attachment.
' 18,'In a printing press-provided with an impression` member, in combination, a supporting frame, bearings in said frame, a `blanket cylinder carried by said bearings and disposed above said impression member, a plate cylinder also carried bybearings inthe framer and disposed ladjacent said blanket cylinder, the bearings forv said blanket cylinder being eccentric with respect to the axis ofv said cylinder, crank arms on said branket cylinder bearings, a lever pivoted to said frame, and links connecting said bearing cranks with said lever, whereby upon movement of saidlever said.4 eccentric bearings will be rotated and said blanket cylinder'willbe separatedfrom the plate cylinder. .Y

Infa printing press provided with-an impression member, in combination, a supporting frame, bearings in said frame, a blanket cylinder carried by said bearings and disposed above said impressionmember, a plate cylinder also carried by bearingsin the frame and disposed adjacent said blanket cylinder, the bearings for said blanket cylinder being eccentric with respect to the axis of said cylinder, crank arms on said bearings, a leverrpivoted to said frame, links connecting said bearing crank with said lever, whereby upon movement of `said lever said eccentric bearingswill be rotated and said blanket cylinder will be separated from the plate cylinder, means for adjusting the lengths of said links in order to kregulate the contact pressure between the plate and blankety cylinders, and releasable abutment means for holding said lever in position to maintain the cylinders in contact.

In ,a printing .press, in combination, an impression member, a pair of side frames, a vertically re'ciprocablebearing slide mounted in each ci saidv side frames, `two pairs off bearings carried by said slides, one pair being eccentric, a plate cylinder mounted in one of said pairs of bearings, a blanket cylinder mounted in the other of said pairs of bearings so as to be positioned beneath and normally in contact With said plate cylinder and substantially above said impression member, means for periodically reciprocating said slide so as to move said cylinders as a unit into and out of printing relation with said impression member, cranks on said eccentric bearings and extending vertically therefrom, a pair of levers, each secured upon an end of a rock shaft mounted in said side frames in substantial horizontal alignment with the eccentric bearings, said levers normally being horizontally disposed, links connecting said bearing cranks with said levers whereby upon movement of the latter said eccentric bearings are rotated to eiect the separation of said cylinders.
21. In a printing press of the bed and cylinder type having an impression cylinder, sheet feeding mechanism at one side of said cylinder pivoted remotely therefrom for raising movements, auxiliary printing mechanism including a cylinder having the usual opening in its peripheral surface disposed adjacent the opposite side of the impression cylinder and above the same, said auxiliary cylinder being of the same diameter as the impression cylinder, and means to move said auxiliary cylinder to and from said impression cylinder to make printing contact with the impression cylinder prior to printing by the bed, said opening in the auxiliary cylinder providing clearance for the end of said sheet feeding mechanism so that it may be raised about its pivot Without disturbing any part thereof.
