This invention relatestto new and provementsin book holdersgand line finders, and

has for-,itsprincipal object toprovidea device of this character which will facilitate the preparation of typewritten-or other oopiesfrom the text 1A" further object of myinvention is to provide novel and efiicienhmanually Operated means for intermittently-actuating and-,lowering the line finder and associated parts, as required in the preparation ofthe typewritten or other copy.

A still further object of my invention is to provide novel means for varying the amount or degree of the intermittent movement of, the line finder, to correspond with the .difleren't size type of thelaw books or other'material from which the copy is made. g

Still another object of my invention is toprovide a novel support for the book and simplbut effective means for holding the'b'ook and pages in proper position for copying on said support.

With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

A' knurled nut 23 is screwed on the outer threaded end 24 of the casing l5, and this nut is provided with an inwardly tapering plug 25, which extends into the outer end of the casing, and prevents any bending in or distortion of the sides of the casing when the nut is screwed up.

A gear wheel 26 is arranged to engage the teeth 21 of the verticalrack 8, and this gear wheel is carried by one end of a horizontal shaft 28, journaled in suitable bearings 29 mounted on the inner face of the front wall 30 of the casing l. The outer end of the shaft 28 is provided with a bevel pinion 3 I, which co-acts with a corresponding bevel pinion 32, carried by the upper end of ber suction feet 39, if desired. The lower end of the shaft 33 is also provided with a bevel pinion 40, which intermeshes with a corresponding beveled pinion 4|, carried by the outer end of the horizontal driven shaft 42. The outer end of the driven shaft is also provided with a ratchet wheel 43, normally engaged by a spring controlled pawl 44, carried by one face of the disc wheel 45, keyed to the inner section 46 of the drive shaft. The outer section, as 41, of the drive shaft, is journaled in suitable bearings 48 and 49, formed at the top or upper edge of the shaft support 50.

The inner and outer sections of the drive shaftare provided with a suitable clutch or union 5| and the outer end of the outer section with an actuating arm or lever 52. I the inner end of the drive shaft support is provided with a housing 53,which fits over a corre-ii sponding ledge or extension 54, extending outwardly from the adjacent lower corner of the front wall 30 of the casingl. From the foregoing description taken in connection'with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without re- I quiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportions and minor, details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principles or sacrificing" any of' the-advantages of my invention, as

defined in the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim asnew and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is:

" l. In a device of the character specified, a book support, a vertical rack, a supporting sleeve adjustably mountedon the upper end of the'rack, a line finder carried by the supporting sleeve, an

actuating lever and a ratchet and gear mechanism for intermittently lowering the rack and line finder when said lever'is actuated.
