The purpose of this invention is to provide means for holding a chain or cord attached to a sink or basin stopper or plug without penetrating the wall or surface of the sink or basin and 6 which may readily be removed when not in use.

The invention is a sink plug or stopper having a chain or the like extending therefrom with a vacuum cup or hook-on the end of the chain.

These plugs have been provided with chains 10 and the chains are normally secured by bolts or screws to the upper part of the sink, wash basin or wash tub, however, in some cases, and particularly in wash tubs, openings are not provided, so that no provision is made for holding the upper end of the chain.

The object of the invention is, therefore, to provide means for holding the upper end o! a chain of a sink stopper or the like, which may readily be attached to a flat surface and which may also be readily removed when not in use.

Another object is to provide a sink stopper or the like having a chain or the like with a vacuum cup at the upper end of the chain.

A further object is to provide a vacuinn cup for supporting a sink stopper or the like with means for attaching the stopper to the plug in which standard parts may be used thruout.

And a still further object is to provide a sink stopper or plug having a vacuum cup attached thereto which is of a simple and economical construction.

with these ends in view the invention embodies a sink stopper or plug having a chain attached thereto, and a vacuum cup or hook attached to the upper or opposite end of the chain.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a view showing a portion of a wash tub with a plug in a drain hole and with a chain leading therefrom held to the upper part of the tub by a vacuum cup.

Figure 2 is a detail showing an alternate arrangement in which the vacuum cup is placed on 45 the upper or horizontal surface of a wash basin.

Figure 3 is a detail showing a cross section thru a vacuum cup of an alternate design.

Figure 4 is a detail showing an alternate design in which the upward end of the chain or cord is provided with a hook instead of a vacuum cup.

In the drawing the device is shown as it may be made wherein numeral i indicates a vacuum cup, numeral 2 a stopper or drain plug, and numeral l a cord or chain.

The vacuum cup I is formed with a rubber boss or stem 4 as shown in Figures 1 and 3 and a metal stem 5 having a ring 8 therein which may be held in the boss 4 as shown in Figure 3'. The stem 8 may be solid as shown in Figure 3 in which the stem is indicated by the numeral 1 and is provided with a pin 0 having a head I at the lower end which is pivotally mounted in a bushing ll, however, it will be understood that the ring may be attached to the vacuum cup I in any manner or by any means, and also that the ring may be 10 omitted and the chain 3 attached to the cup in any manner. The chain 3 may also be attached to the plug 2 byaring II as shownin Figure 1, or it may be directly attached to the plug as shown at point I! in Figure 2. The chain 3 may be made as shown in Figure 1, or as shown in Figure 2, in which it is indicated by numeral I 3, or a chain, wire, or cord of any type maybe used.

In the design shown in Figure 4 the stopper 2 is provided with a cord i4 and at the end of go the cord is a hook II which may be used in place of the vacuum cup to hold the upper end of the chain or cord. It will be understood that although a cord is shown in this design, a chain as shown in either Figure 1 or 2, or of any type may be used, and also'that the cord shown in Figure 4 may be used in place of the chain in the designs shown in Figures 1 and 2. It will also be understood that the hook and plug, in the design shown in Figure 4 may be attached to the cord or chain in any manner or by any means.

It will be understood that other changes may be made in the construction without changing the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the use of a plug or stopper of any 5 other type or description, another may be in the use of a vacuum cup of any other design, and still another may be in the use of any other means for connecting the vacuum cup to the plug or stopper.

The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the device may be provided as shown and described with a vacuum cup attached to the upper end of a chain leading upward from the plug, and the plug may be placed in the drain opening in the vacuum cup attached to the upper part of a wash tub or sink so that it will hold the upper end of the chain while the tub or sink is not in use. It will be noted that by using this device it will not be necessary to install any type of permanent fixture thru the wall of the tub or basin, and the plug and vacuum cup may readily be removed and placed upon a book so that they are out of the way when not in use. The device is also made of standard parts so that it may be assembled,

- provided and sold at a very low cost.

It will be understood that 'a ball chain, or a chain of any type may also be used and the ends of the chain may be directly connected to the plug or vacuum cup or these connections may be made in any manner.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. The combination with a sink plug or stopper having a chain extending therefrom; 01' a vacuum cup attached to the end of the chain and adapted to hold said chain.

2. A device as described in claim 1 in which the vacuum cup is provided with a swivel connection.

3. A sink stopper having a chain attached thereto and means at the opposite end of the chain for removably holding the end of the chain to the upper part oi! a basin or the like.

4. The combination with a. plug for wash tubs or the like, said plug having a chain attached thereto; of means removably holding the upper end oi the chain to the upper part of the tub or the like.

5. A sink stopper as described in claim 1 in which the vacuum cup thereof is provided with a swivel joint.

6. A device as described in claim 1 in which the vacuum cup is formed with a boss extending therefrom and with a connecting eye, to which the chain is mounted in said boss.
