Description

Aug. 16|, 1927.
W. R. KAHNS ET AL'A LIGHTING FIXTURE Filed May 20v. 1925 Patented Aug. 16, 1927.
f nairEn s'rATEs PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER R. KAIINS AND KARL vKELLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, v.ASSIGNOIRS TO J. H. WHITE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORA- TION OF NEW YORK. v
f LIGHTING Application led May 20,
Our invention relates to lighting fixtures, and especially to'electroliers and chandeliers in which a plurality of arms supporting lighting devices project from a common support, and the object Aof the invention is to effectively prevent relative displacement of sucli arms.
ln the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is an elevation in reduced size ofA a hanging lighting fixture to which our invention is applicable. v
Fig. 2 js a central vertical section in larger size partly broken away.
Fig. 8 is a top view of the upper ends of the lamp supporting arms as connected to their support, the coupling member and nipple being removed, and
Fig. 4 is a cross section on the broken line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, 10 indicates a section of pipe having a plurality of spaced threaded projections 11 on the same horizontal line secured to the pipe by solder or in any suitable manner. lThe lamp supporting arms 12 are preferably hollow or tubular, and also preferably hexagonal with two opposite sides depressed inwardly towards eachY other longitudinally.
These arms at their upper portions lie ver-` tically and side by side against the pipe 10, the depressions on their innermost sides conformino' to the outer surface of the ine while the depressions on their outermost sides add to the ornamental appearance. i
Each of these arms is provided withY an opening 13 through which the threaded projections 11 on the pipe 10 pass, and a knob 14 is screwed upon the projecting end of each of thethreaded members 11 thereby removably securing the arms 12 to the pipe 10 Y at this point. Ait, a predetermined distance below suchvconnection the arms are curved outwardly and upwardly, there being ornamental shells 15 attached to their ends in which the electric lamps 16 are seated. These lamps may be of the candle type as shown, or of any other suitable character.
The upper ends of the arms 12 are flush with the upper end ofthe pipe 10 and a cap 17 is placed over the top of the pipe, the cap being provided with a central opening 18 of a diameter corresponding with the opening in the pipe which is interiorly threaded at the upper end. The outer edge of the cap 17 is provided with spaced downwardly turned FIXTURE.
1926. seriai No. 110,349.
lugs or projections 19, one of which passes into the o-pen upper end of each arm 12.
A coupling member 20 is provided having astem 21 exteriorly threaded which is screwed into the upper end of the pipe 10 and bears upon the top surface of the cap whereby the upper ends of the arms 12 are securely held to the pipe. l
lThe body of the member 2O has an opening 22 through its center for the passage of the conductor wires (not shown), above which it terminates in a ring 23 Vwhich is interiorly threaded. A vhollow 'exteriorly tireaded nipple 24 is screwed into the threaded ring 23, and upon its upper end receives the threaded hub 25 of a hook or ornamental bail 26 Vto which the chain 27 for suspending the fixture is connected. An ornamental shell 28 covers the upper ends of the arms 12 and pipe 10 and lower part of the member 20, while another shell 29 covers the upper part of the member 2O and the nipple 24.` An ornamental knob or plug 30 is fixed tothe lower end of the pipe 10.
While we have described the member 10 as a section of pipe, it is obvious that this member may be a solid rod having a threaded" recess in its -upper end toreceive the threaded stem 21 of the coupling member 20,
without departing from the naturev and spirit of our invention.
Our invention provides a-lighting fixture of the Acharacter described in which the lamp supporting arms are eifectively prevented from relative angular displacement when in use, Vand of very ornamental appearance.
