GARMENT Filed Sept. 10, 1934 22 L9 'Wem/12,71%@ W er a/WQSF Patented Apr. 3), 1935 para stares I y 1,939,433 u tesamen@ Vera N. Weiss, University City, Mo. l'lpplicationV September 10, 1934, Serial No. 743,317 -1 Claim. (Cl. 2-224) This invention relates to garments, and has special reference adapted to be worn in warm weather with greater comfort than similar garments now in general use.
The invention is embodied in trousers adapted to be worn as pajama trousers or to be worn outdoors at appropriate places, as desired.
An object of the invention is to provide a garment of this character and for this purpose made of light and thin and substantially diaphanous material and having portions thereof rendered opaque by means herein disclosed or other equivalent means, so that the garment may be worn publicly without embarrassment to the wearer.
Other objects' of the invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being made to the annexed drawing, in which- Fig. l is a perspective View showing the front of the garment.
Fig. 2 is a similar perspective View showing the rear of the garment.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the front of the garment turned inside out showing means whereby portions or the garment are rendered opaque.
Fig. e is a perspective View showing the rear of the garment turned inside out.
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional View of the body of the garment approximately on the line 5 5 of Fig. l.
Fig. 6 is a sectional View of the waistband of the garment on the line i-'-6 of Fig. 1.
The present invention comprises trousers made of light and thin and substantially diaphanous material, including a body portion l and legs 2 extending downwardly from the crotch 3 of the garment. A waistband e, which is preterably elastic, is attached to the upper end of the garment and has its ends at the front. The garment opens at the iront and one end of the waistband has spaced buttons 5 and Ei attached thereto and the opposite end of the 'waistband has buttonholes l formed therein adapted to be engaged with the buttons. Since thebuttons E and and the buttonholes 'I are spaced substantially in the relationship shown, it is apparent that the garment may be worn with ease and comfort by persons dilering considerably in size and may be reduced vor enlarged at the waistband by any person wearing the garment.
A section 8, which may be of the same material of which the garment is made or of different material, is attached to the inside of the to a garment designed andV crotch-of the garment and renders that portion of the garment opaque.
The garment is constructed to open at the front from the waistband to the forepart of the crotch and includes an inner portion il and an outer portion lil. The outer portion it is designed and intended to overlap the inner portion 9. The outer portion i@ is relatively long and extends laterally relatively a considerable distance. The lower part Ii ci the edge of the outer portion i@ extends obliquely upwardly and toward the right from the crotchof the garment to intersection with the upper part i2 of the edge of said outer portion. The edge it extends obliquely upwardly and tewardthe left to connection with the end of the waistband f5. A corner i3 is formed by the intersection of the edges i l and l2V and a buttonhole le is formed through the pointed margin of the outer portion it to be engaged with a button i5 attached to the body i of the garment a considerable distance from the edge ofthe inner portion S.
An approximately diamond shaped section 5 of appropriate material is attached to the inner side of the outer portion lil of the body of the garment, the outer edges of said section it `matching and being attached to the margin or the outer portion iii along the edges i! and i2 by stitching il. The lower end or the section it extends below the forward end of the section 8 and the parts e, l and it are attached together at the lower end of the section i6 vand the upper end of the section 8 by stitching te. The opposite edges of the section i5 are shaped symmetrically with the edges ii and l2, including a lower edge portion i8, extending obliquely upwardly toward the left of the garment to inter section at a corner i9 with the upper edge portion 2e that converges upwardly toward the edge portion l2. Stitches 2i, running near the edges i6 and 2E, pass through the section 5 and the body portion i of the garment and secure said parts together. The upper end of the section it? is attached to the waistband by stitching 22.
'A strip 223 of appropriate material is secured to the inside of the inner portion 9 by stitches 2t and constitutes a reinforcement for the fastening means 25, whereby the button i5 is attached to the body of the garment.
' In this garment theedges i i and i8 diverge upwardly approximately along the groins. The two plies' and l@ render the portions of the garment covered thereby completely-opaque, so that the garment may be worn with comfort and Without embarrassment wherever it is appropirate to Wear such garment.
This garment has been tested and Worn with greatly increased cornort during the past eX- trernely hot summer. Therefore, it isknown that the garment attains all of its intended objects and purposes efciently, economically and satisfactorily. c
t is possible that the garment may be Varied as to details of construction without departure from the nature and principle of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
A trousers garment made of diaphanous material and comprising a body portion having a waist band and legs connected with the body portion and forming a crotch, said garment being open at the front from near said crotch through said Waist band, the open front of the garment including inner and outer overlapping portions, said outer overlapping portion being tapered to form a point located substantially midway between the crotch and the Waist band and adja cent one side of the body portion, means for attaching said point to the underlying part of said body portion, and a piece of material attached to the inner side o said outer overlapping portion and being shaped to be coextensive with said tapered portion and to extend on the opposite side o the center of the iront of the body portion in a like manner and to a similar extent to render the -front portion of the garment opaque.
