Definitions
- This invention relates to a method of transing integral with the sole portions, the instep and the toe heel parts that have been worked separately.
- the sole portions then connect directly with the high heel portions and the instep forms the continuation of the central portion of the leg positioned between the high heel parts.
- To insert heel portions in the stocking it is customary to separate the sole portions from the high heel parts by incisions and to transfer the high heel portions beside the sole portions in the direction of their courses to the transfer needles of a looping machine.
- the stocking in order to insert separately produced heel portions in a stocking worked on a fiat frame and having a leg integral with the sole portions, the instep and the toe, the stocking is properly transferred to two closely superposed rows of transfer needles at the point where the sole portions have to be separated from the high heel portions for inserting the heel portions, whereupon separation of the sole portions from the high heel portions is effected between the two transfer rows.
- This method can be applied also to such stockings in which the heel portions with their initial course have been connected already on the frame with the body of the stocking, so that subsequently only the inner longitudinal edges of the heel portions have to be united with the body of the stocking structure.
- the transfer needles to which the sole portions have been transferred are preferably brought inside beside the transfer needles holding the high heel portions into a common plane whereupon the inner longitudinal edges of the heel portions are transferred to the transfer needles of the sole portions.
- Transfer of the stocking is preferably carried out on a transfer device or a linking machine from whose row of transfer needles parts may be swung outl", so that these swung-out parts will be 10 positioned above the adjacent needles of the transfer needle row.
- FIG. 1 and 2 show how the heel portions with 15 their initial courses are connected already on the fiat frame with the body of the stocking
- Fig. 3 shows how a stocking according to Fig. 2 is transferred'above the fixing points of the heel portions to two closely superposed transfer needle 20 rows
- Fig. 4 shows how after the separation of the high heel portions from the sole portions the transfer needles of the latter are brought on the same plane with the transfer needles of the former
- Fig. 5 shows how afterwards the inner 25 longitudinal edges of the heel portions are transferred to the transfer needles of the sole portions
- Fig. 6 shows how a stocking structure is transferred without heel parts connected thereto on a flat hosiery frame
- Figs. 7 and 8 30 are, respectively, a front and top View of a portion of the transfer needle row of a. looping machine.
- the stocking structure I is transferred correctly, at the point where 35 the insertion of the heel portions 2 requires separation of the high heel portions 0 from the sole portions 4, to two closely superposed transfer needle rows 5, 6, 6', whereupon by suitable means,
- the transfer of the parts I and 4 may be effected directly to the needles of a corformed transfer device whose transfer needle rows 6, 6' for the sole portions 4 are arranged on fastening means capable of moving 180, 50 that the transfer needles of these movable parts may be brought from a plane common with the needles for the high heel portions 3 above the transfer needles of the high heel needle row 5. If the transfer is to take place directly to a looping machine, the transfer needle row thereof should be correspondingly formed.
- the needles of the transfer row 5 for the high heel portions 3 are then secured to the usual bar 1, but the needles of the transfer row 6, 6' are attached to the fastening means 8, Figs. 7 and 8, which can be swung out of the needle row to the extent of 180.
- the arrangement is such that the parts 8 will be between the needles of the transfer row 5 when all needles are on the same plane.
- the arms 9, l insure the mobility of the parts 8.
- the inner longitudinal edges ll of the heel portions 2 are then trans- I ferred to the needles of the row 6, 6- so as to permit linking of these edges.
- the inner longitudinal edges ll of the heel portions 2 may be transferred also to the needles to which the sole portions 4 have been transferred. Only the inner longitudinal heel edges II will then be linked with the initial sole courses. The end course of the high heel portions 3 is finished off only to prevent unravelling up to the binding-in point of the heel portions 2. This method is superior to the one described before in so far as the points of junction of the high heel portions 3 with the heel portions 2 are not conspicuously visible.
- a method of transferring a stocking structure worked on a flat frame and having sole portions directly connecting with the high heel portions for the purpose of inserting separately worked heel portions consisting in properly transferring the stocking structure at the point where prior to inserting the heel portions the sole portions have to be separated from the high body of the stocking by being brought on the said member, slightly below the connecting point of the heel portions to the two closely superposed transfer needle rows.
- a method according to claim 1, consisting in bringing the transfer needles to which the sole portions are transferred inside beside the transfer needles holding the high heel portions on a common plane, and transferring the inner longitudinal edges of the heel portions to the transfer needles of the sole portions.
- a transfer device for a flat hosiery frame comprisin a transfer needle row having parts capable of being swung out of the needle plane to the extent of at least 180 to cause the needles of said parts to lie horizontally and above the adjacent needles of the transfer needle row, the needle plane of said swimg-out parts extending then parallel to the needle plane of the transfer needle row.
- A' looping machine for manufacturing hosiery comprising a transfer needle row having parts capable of being swung out of the needle plane to an extent of at least 180 to cause the needles of said parts to lie horizontally and above the adjacent needles of the transfer needle row, the needle plane of said swung-out parts ex tending then parallel to the needle plane of the transfer needle row.
- a transfer device for a flat hosiery frame comprising a transfer needle row, and means for mounting parts of said row so that they are capable of being swung out of the needle plane to the extent of at least 180 to cause the needles of said parts to lie horizontally and above the adjacent needles of the transfer needle row, the needle plane of said swung-out parts extending then parallel to the needle plane of the transfer needle row.
- a looping machine for manufacturing hosiery comprising a transfer needle row, and means for mounting parts of said row so that they are capable of being swung out of the needle plane to the extent of at least 180 to cause the needles of said parts to lie horizontally and above the adjacent needles of the transfer needle row, the needle plane of said swung-out parts extending then parallel to the needle plane of the transfer needle row.
