Claims.

This invention resides in the provision of a novel hair shield which may be quickly and easily fitted on the head of a person preparatory to facial treatments and other toilet operations on 5 the face, and will serve in a particularly eficient manner to protect the hair against derangement and prevent creams, powder, and other cosmetics from getting on or in the hair.

An object of the invention is to provide a shield of the character described which will cover the hair about the forehead and sides of the head and present to the face'at point of contact therewith a, smooth and substantially continuous surface onto which the .hands of an operator may be moved during a facial treatment without disturbing the position of the shield or causing a depositing of cosmetic material along the edge of the shield. ,, Another object of the invention is to provide a shield of the character described which will be small, compact, and comparatively inexpensive as well as comfortable in use. H I

Still another object is to provide a hair shield of the character described which maybe easily cleaned and maintained in a sanitary condition for repeated use thereof. v

A further object of the invention is to provide a hair shield of the character described which is constructed of resilient material in such manner as to insure proper conformation thereof to the head of the wearer in a snug but comfortable fit and without deranging the hair.

The inventionpossessesother objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the fore-'- going, will be set forth in the following description of the preferred form of the invention. which is illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is to be understood, however, that variations in the showing'made by the said drawing and description may be adopted within the scope of the invention as set forth in the claims.

The present embodiment of my invention, as shown in detail in the accompanying drawing, comprises a shield body portion 4 preferably made of flexible, relatively stiff, resilient material such as celluloid and in an arcuate form so that it may be fitted upon the top and sides of head about the hair line of the forehead as particularly shown in Figure 1. In this position it will be noted that only the forward or lower edge 5 of the shield is disposed in contact with the head whereas the remainder is slanted outward and away from the head in order to avoid crushing or pressing downward or against, and consequently deranging, the hair. It will also be noted that the shield will lie over the cars so as to cover the hair and hair line around the ears as well as around the forehead whereby creams, powder or other cosmetics such as used in treating'the face are prevented from getting on or in the hair. Furthermore the resiliency and flexibility of the shield make for a snug fitting and proper conformation thereof tothe head while the'relative stiffness insures its remaining inproper shielding position at all times. i g

, As'may be particularly noted from Figures 1 and 2, the forward edge of the shield is tapered off to a sufficient thinness to lie substantiallyin the plane of the face with'which it is in contact to thus present the shield to the face as a smooth,

continuous surface substantially tangent to the curvature of the face at point of contact therewith. This construction enables the operator in massaging or applying certain materials tothe face to workhis hands or otherimplements to the very edge of and over the shield without meeting any appreciable obstruction or causing a deposit of materials along the edge of the shield. In order that a greatercontact surface may be afforded over the forward edge of the shield than would be normally presented by a single'sheet of celluloid or the like, a narrow-band 6 of celluloid,

Means is provided for holding the shield in proper position and as here shown is in the form of an arcuate flexible and resilient comb member l joinedwith the lower or forward edge of the body portion 4 and extending upward from said edge in divergent relation to the body portion proper. This comb preferably, and'as here shown, is secured to the band 6 and body portion by means ofa pair of rivets 8 and comprises a base 9 from which teeth it extend. In order to insure proper contact between the edge 5 and the face, the base 9 of the comb is tapered down to smoothly engage the band 6, andthe body portion of the shield between the edge 5 and the comb base is as shown in Figure 2 curved inwardly from the remainder of the shield.
