Description
.J'.'HEIMERL.'
No. 199,543. Patented Jan. 22,1878.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JACOB HEIMEBL, OF MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-YOKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,543, dated January 22, 1878; application filed September 24, 1877.
of a double yoke; and has for its object to.
prevent the horses from being jerked around by the swinging motion of the tongue; also, to prevent chafing by the working of the collars caused by the vibrations of the tongue. 7
In the drawing, A is the yoke-bar, the ends of which are provided with rings or straps or a, for securing them to the hames or collars (as the case may be) of the team. To the under side of the bar A, some distance from the ends, are secured eyes or staples b b, through which pass rings or straps c c, by means of which bar A is united to another shorter bar, B, parallel therewith. To the middle of this last-named bar is secured a ring or loop, 0,
through which the tongue is passed in the usual manner.
This constructiomitwill be seen, allows play of the tongue-bar B, conforming to the lateral vibrations of the tongue, so that the yoke-bar A is kept steady, thus allowing the collars to remain in their position without chafing the animals.
For drays and heavy wagons the rings a, o, and 0 should be made of iron; but for buggies or light vehicles, leather straps should be used in their place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination of the yoke-bar A, having connecting rings or straps c c, with the tonguebar B, having the loop or ring 0 for the insertion of the tongue, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I-have hereto afixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J AOOB HEIMERL.
