TABLE SALT DRYING APPARATUS Filed Aug. 24, 1934 3 Sheets-Sheet 3 Inventm' f a Za/Za/aim By I Attomey Patented Mar. 5, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application August 24,
Claims.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for drying salt in salt cellars and the like for table ,use and has for its prime object to provide an apparatus utilizing a heating element and into 5 which may be inserted salt cellers and the like and which also includes a container for loosesalt handy for filling salt cellars.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of an apparatus of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
with the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a top plan view of an apparatus embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the apparatus with the covers removed.
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse section taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1, and
Figure 5 is a similar section taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the letter A denotes generally a boxlike structure of rectangular formation including side walls 5-5 and end walls 6-6 rising from a bottom '7. The bottom '7 is provided with a plu- 35 rality of openings 8. Across the box-like structure A is a partition 9 located ofi center and rising from a portion of the partition adjacent the upper edge thereof are a pair of flanges 10, one on each side. There are two covers 11 and 12 which have depending flanges 14 and 15 respectively on all sides thereof for overhanging the side walls and the end wall and the flanges. The cover 14 is provided with suitable shaped openings 16 so that a salt cellar or the like may 45 be inserted therethrough and rested on the bottom as clearly indicated in Figure 4. The cover 12 is imperforate.
Depending from the longitudinal central portion of the cover 11 is an inverted channel like 50 guard substantially U-shaped in formation to provide the intermediate portion 20 with depending side walls 21. The portion 20 is fixed to the under surface of the cover 11 and the walls 21 terminate slightly above the bottom 7. Openings 22 are provided in the walls 21. A tray T 1934, Serial No. 741,819
is mounted in the smaller compartment of the box like structure A under the cover 12 and is constructed of glass, porcelain, or some other similar material and is formed with an inverted longitudinally extending well or trough like structure 25 registering with the interior of the guard in the other compartment and an opening is provided in the partition 9 in registry with these two guard members so that an elongated electrical heating element 26 may be mounted in one end wall 6 and extended through the two guards in the opening in the partition and the heat thereof will maintain the salt dry in the tray T for filling salt cellars and will dry out the salt in any salt cellars placed through the openings 16. The box like structure is mounted on suitable legs 26.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exempliiication since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. An apparatus of the class described including a box like structure, a cover for the box like structure having openings therein through which salt cellars and the likemay be inserted, and a heating element in the box like structure, a guard for the heating element depending from the cover and being of a substantially U-shaped formation to provide an intermediate portion fixed to the cover and depending side walls terminating adjacent the bottom of the box like structure and provided with openings.
2. An apparatus of the class described including a box like structure, a cover for the box like structure having openings therein through which salt cellars and the like may be inserted, and a heating element in the box like structure, a guard for the heating element depending from the cover and being of a substantially U-shaped formation to provide an intermediate portion fixed to the cover and depending side walls terminating adjacent the bottom of the box like structure and provided with openings, a partition dividing the box like structure into two compartments, said cover being disposed over one compartment, and a cover disposed over the other compartment, and a tray in said other compartment.
3. An apparatus of the class described including a box like structure, a cover for the box like structure having openings therein through which salt cellars and the like may be inserted, and a heating element in the box like structure, a guard for the heating element depending from the cover and being of a substantially U-shaped formation to provide an intermediate portion, fixed to the cover and depending side walls terminating adjacent the bottom of the box like structure and provided with openings, a partition dividing the box like structure into two compartments, said cover being disposed over one compartment, and a cover disposed over the other compartment, and a tray in said other compartment, said tray having an inverted trough like guard portion in the bottom thereof registering with the first mentioned guard through an opening in the partition.
4. An apparatus of the class described including a box like structure, a cover for the box like structure having openings therein through which salt cellars and the like may be inserted, and a heating element in the box like structure, a guard for the heating element depending from the cover and being of a substantially U -shaped formation to provide an intermediate portion fixed to the cover and depending side walls terminating adjacent the bottom of the box like structure and proi vided with openings, a partition dividing the box like structure into two compartments. said cover being disposed over one compartment, and a cover disposed over the other compartment, and a tray in said other compartment, said tray having an inverted trough like guard portion in the bottom thereof registering with the first mentioned guard through an opening in the partition, said bottom being provided with openings.
5. An apparatus of the class described including a box like structure, a cover for the box like structurehaving openings therein through which salt cellars 'and the like maybe inserted, and a heatinglgflement in the box like structure, a guard for the heating element depending from the cover and being of a substantially U-shaped formation to provide an intermediate portion fixed to the cover and depending side walls terminating adjacent the bottom of the box like structure and provided with openings, a partition dividing the box like structure into two compartments, said cover being disposed over one compartment, and a cover disposed over the other compartment, and a tray in said other'compartment, said tray having an inverted trough like guard portion in the bottom thereof registering with the first mentioned guard through an opening in the partition, said bottom being provided with openings, said partition having a pair of flanges one on each side thereof rising from an upper portion thereof, and said covers having flanges on all edges overlapping the walls of the box like structure and the flanges.
