ROBERT C. MILLINGS, OF CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA.
4 IMPROVEMENT IN REVOLVING ADVERTISING-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,306, dated January 15, 1878; application filed December 8, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. MILLINGS, of Charleston, in the county of Charleston and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Revolving Advertising-Cases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed 'inafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to Which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention. A represents a polygonal-shaped or polygonal-faced casing, of any suitable dimensions. Each face or side of this casing is, by means of slats B B, divided into a series of pockets or similar divisions, and the slats are rabbeted, as shown at a, so that a number of cards can be inserted in each pocket, and held there in such a manner that one or more cards can be taken out when desired.
The casing A is hollow, and provided with two or more interior spiders, C C, passing over a central vertical shaft, D, which is secured to a foot or stand, E, the upper end of said shaft resting in a boxer socket, b, in the center of the top spider. To the inside of the casing A is attached a suitable frame-work, H, containing a clock-work, G, of which drepresents the last shaft or arbor rotated by said clock-work. On the inner end of the shaft d is secured a pinion, e, which meshes with a cog-wheel, I, secured on the center shaft D.
The clock-work G is operated by a spring, J and wound up in the usual manner, when the shaft 07, rotating, causes the pinion e to travel around the stationary cog-Wheel I, carrying with it the casin g and entire clock mechanism, giving to said casing a rotating motion around the center shaft.
This invention is applicable to card-racks, show-cases, &c.
By the arrangement of the clock mechanism connected to the casing, and the revolving pinion operating on a central stationary cog-wheel, I am enabled to run a heavy case with a comparatively light spring.
What I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the central shaft D with stationary cog-wheel I, the rotating casing A, the clock-work Gr, attached to and rotating with said casing, and the shaft (1, with pinion e, meshing with the cog-Wheel I, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses F. C. MILLINGS, R. A. BARTON.
