Description

W. PLANK.. Barrel Cart.
No .'199,102.' Patenfed Jan. 8, 1878..
INVENTOR WITNESSES N- PEIERS, PNDTd-LITHOGRAPHEPL WASNINGTON, D, C.
WILLIAM PLANK, OF DE KALB, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BARREL-CARTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,102,
dated January 8, 1878; application filed September 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WJLLIAM PLANK, of De Kalb, in the county of De Kalb and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Barrel-Carts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of this invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view, showing separated details of the spindles and ring-sections.
This invention relates to a truck for carryin'g barrels in a vertical position; and consists, essentially, in an annular frame provided with spindles, and supported in a horizontal position between two wheels, which revolve on said spindles.
In the drawing, A designates the annular frame, which is composed of the two semi-annular parts a. a, from the endsof which project the radial half-sockets b, which when brought together to complete the annular frame A, form complete sockets B, which embrace the shanks c of the spindles O, and are firmly secured thereto by transverse bolts 0.
The wheels D, which revolve about the spindles O, are of suitable height to support, clear of the ground, barrels of the kind which a particular truck is designed to carry; and the diameter of the annularframe is such that the said frame will embrace such barrels closely just below the bulge or plane of greatest diameter thereof, as shown in Fig. 1. The drawbars or shafts E are attached to the sockets B, and, extending obliquely forward, cross each other, and are firmly attached together at the point of crossing, 0, thus forming braces to maintain in position the wheels and sockets.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a barrel-truck, the combination of semi-annular parts a a, having half-sockets b b, and the shanks of spindles O of wheels D.
2. In a barrel-truck, the annular frame A, composed of semi-annular parts a a, half sockets b b, and the shanks of the spindles C, in combination with the connected crossed draw-bars or shafts E, constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM PLAN K.
