l 2 Ciaims.

This invention relates to a combined stool and window jchair of that class which is intended for use by persons to facilitate in the operation of cleaning windows both upon the inside and outside and to protect the user from accident.

The device is of the folding type and whennot in use may be folded into a small and compact space for storage, and when erected and adjusted to form a stool it may be used to stand upon for the inside cleaning of the windows, and by other adjustments, it may be used as a chair outside of the window and attached to the window sill.

While I have shown the device herein as being constructed of both wood and rnetal, it is understood that if desired the article may be made from metal alone or other suitable materials, and that it may be constructed in any size.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind that shall be cheap, durable and efficient, contain few parts and be fully adjustable without the use of tools or the addition or subtraction of other parts or attachments.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combination article of this kind that may be quickly converted either into a stool to rest upon the floor, or a chair to be attached to' a window sill and extend outward to support a person during the act of cleaning a window.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the ac- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing the same in position outside of a window and attached to the sill.

The combined back stays and braces 15, are pivoted as at 16 by a bolt to the side frames 10 on the outer faces thereof and extend downward past the legs 12, in contact with the rod 13 and have their lower ends joined together by a 20 transverse strip- 17, while their upper ends are secured to a back 18 by screws 19.

Folding arms composed of the pieces 20 having one end pivoted to the back stays 15 as at 21 upon the outer face thereoL'and pivoted as at 22 to the 25 outer face of the piece 23, which is pivoted as at 24 to the outer face of the side frame 10.

The upper surfaces of the side frames 10 are formed with a recess 26 (see Figures 6 and 7) and are capped with a plate 27 formed with a 30 slot 28 land retainedv in place by the screws 29, and within this recess 26 and slot 28 is slidably mounted the bolt 30.`

The seat 31 rests upon and is attached in an v adjustable manner upon the side frames 10 by 35 the bolts 30 which extend through holes formed in said seat 31, and which are provided with the wing nuts 32 in such a manner that the seat may be moved'iorward or backward with respect to the side frames 10, as shown in Figures 1 and 2. 40

The forward edge of the seat 31 is provided with a pair of adjustable sill hooks that are formed of two parts 33 that are L-shaped and attached to the seat 31 by the bolts or screws 34 and which are formed with a depending portionhaving a 45 bolt hole therein, while the part 35 is also L- shaped and is formed with a slot 36 through which a bolt 37 is passed the head being retained by Aa washer 38, while a wing nut 39 is placed upon the bolt, and in this manner the part 35 may be 50 raised or lowered, or moved into either of the positions shown in Figures 1 and 2, to engage with all shapes of sills.

In the operation of the device as a window chair and as shown in Figure 1, the seat 31 is extended 55 forward, the sill hooks adjusted to engage the innei` sill, the side frame resting upon the outer sill, and the braces 15 resting in contact with the outer Wall of the building, thus providing a secure seat for the operative.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-

1. In a stool and Window chair, the combination with a pair of combined legs and back stays, of a pair of parallel side frames pivoted thereto and formed with a recess in the upper edge, slotted plates secured to said side frames above said recesses, an adjustable seat mounted on said plates, bolts adjustably mounted in said plates and passing through and secured `to said seat, a second pair of parallel legs pivoted to said side frames, and a transverse rod secured to said second pair of legs and adapted to engage with the first pair of legs to limit their movement in one direction with respect to said side frames.

2. In a combination window seat and chair comprising a pair of side frames adapted to abut the outer edge of the window sill, a slotted retaining plate secured to the upper edge of each of said side frames and bolts adjustably mounted in said slots, a seat member adjustably mounted on said plates and side frames and formed with holes for said bolts, nuts threaded on said bolts in contact with said seat member, adjustable hooks secured to the forward edge of said seat member for engagement with the inner edge of the window sill, a pair of combined legs and backstays pivoted to the outer sides of the side frames with their lower ends adapted to contact with the outer side of the building, a second pair of legs pivoted to the inner sides of the side frames, a cross brace secured to said second pair of legs and contacting both with the lower edges of the side frames and the first pair of legs to limit the movement thereof, and a pair of folding arms pivoted to said legs and side frames.
