2 Claims.
This invention relates to a container forcosmetics, pharmaceuticals or the like and more specifically to a container for a lipstick, rouge, powder, paste, viscous liquid, etc.
An object of the invention is to provide a convenient, sanitary, economical, practical and unique device for applying or dispensing a cosmetic, pharmaceutical or the like.
' Another object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive container of pleasing appearance in which the cosmetic, pharmaceutical or the like is plainly visible without exposing the same,
and which will easily permit removalof only so much of the contents as is desired.
According to this invention a container en- "closes a cosmetic, pharmaceutical or the like, in
the form of a stick, rouge, powder, paste, viscous liquid, etc. and carries a cap, and preferably a transparent cap, having one or more restricted openings through which the cosmetic may pass. By such arrangement, the user is able to see the nature and color of the contents before using the same, and is able to remove only such amount of the contents as is desired, for example, by finger pressure, by mechanically pushing the contents through the restricted opening or openings, etc.
The container may have any suitable shape or form and may be made of any suitable material,
such as metal, wood, celluloid, etc- The cap may have any suitable shape or form, but is preferably rounded, and is adapted to fit over a lipstick, paste, powder, viscous liquid, etc., or over a collapsible tube ,or other container where pressure is employed to remove the product. Printed matter, such as the composition of the contents, directions as to use, etc. may be applied along the length of the cap, and theamount of such printed matter which may be applied on a cap according to this invention, is greater than in other forms of containers now in use.
The contents of the container, especially if in stick form, may be of any desired shape, such as circular, wedge shaped, square, etc., and may be added in such form or the material can be poured directly into the container and permitted to take the shape of the container.
In such a container, the contents maintain a permanent shape until exhausted, and without any loss, such as is common in the ordinary containers for lipsticks, etc. V
The contents of the container are forced through the restricted opening or openings by finger pressure, mechanically, or other suitable means, and applied to the lips, cheeks or other parts of the body. For example, if a lipstick is employed, only so much of the stick is forced through the opening or openings as is desired, and the same is spread over the lips by gently passing the cap over the lips. Such method 5 replaces the mechanical action of the fingers to smooth the stick on the lips, and permits application of the lipstick without objectionable and unsightly stains on fingers, hands or other parts of the body. Referring now to the drawing, 10 Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of the container; I
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a cap with a plurality of openings;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of an inner cylinder; 15 Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the smaller cylinder;
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the smaller cylinder at the base of the inner cylinder; and
Fig. 6 is an elevational view of the smaller 20 cylinder at the top of the inner cylinder.
In the drawing, 8 is a receptacle, preferably a metal cylinder, having a longitudinal slot 9 and a knurled knob 10. Cylinder 8 encloses a relatively smaller cylinder 11 having a pin 12, en- 25 gaging slot 9. Preferably, the pin 12 carries an upper disc 13. A cylinder 14 substantially surrounds cylinder 8, and has a spiral slot 15 in which the pin 12 is adapted to travel. The cosmetic 5 is inserted in cylinder 11 and is pre- 30 vented from contacting with pin 12 by disc 13. The cylinders 8, 11 and 14 are substantially enclosed in a cylinder 17.
Upon rotation to the right of knurled knob 10,
pin 12 travels upwardly in slot 15, carrying therewith cylinder 11 and cosmetic 5, forcing the cosmetic through restricted opening 6 in cap 7. The restricted opening 6 may be circular, or of any other suitable form and the cap '7 is preferably of celluloid or other transparent material 40 and fits snugly over cylinder 17 and may extend downward over its entire length, as shown, or for any convenient distance.
Transparent cap 7 is preferably rounded so as to permit application and spreading of the cosmetic, pharmaceutical or the like, to the lips, cheeks or other part of the body, without discoloration of the fingers, hands or other parts of the body. Cap 7 may have one restricted opening in the center thereof, as shown in Fig. 1, or it may have a plurality of restricted openings, as shown in Fig. 2. If desired, another cylinder, not, shown, of'paper, cardboard, etc., may contain printed matter 'as to the contents or the container, directions as to use, etc., or
such printed matter may be applied to the cap 7, in which case the cap preferably extends substantially the entire length of the container.
If desired, a cap 16 may fit snugly over cap 7. The cylinders 8, 11, 14 and 17, and cap 16, may be of any suitable material, but are preferably of metal.
i I claim:-
1. A container for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals or the like comprising a cylinder having a longitudinal slot, said cylinder having one open end, a relatively smaller cylinder movable longitudinally in said first cylinder and having a pin engaging said slot, a third cylinder substantially enclosing said cylinders and having a spiral slot in which said pin is adapted to travel, a transparent cap having an open end adapted to fit over the open end of said third cylinder. the other end of said cap having at least one restricted opening, and a cosmetic adapted to be moved longitudinally in said first cylinder and forced through said restricted opening by said smaller cylinder.
2. A container for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals or, the like comprising a metal cylinder having a longitudinal slot, said cylinder being open at one end and having a knurled knob at the other end, a relatively smaller metal cylinder movable longitudinally in said first cylinder and havinga pin engaging said slot, a third metal cylinder substantially enclosing said cylinders and having a spiral slot in which said pin is adapted to travel, a celluloid cap having an open end adapted to fit over the open end of said third cylinder, the other end of said cap being curved and having' at least one restricted opening, and a cosmetic adapted to be moved longitudinally in said first cylinder and forced through said restricted opening by said smaller cylinder upon rotation of said knob.
