LABEL CARRYING CONTAINER Filed Feb. 27, 1934 INVENTOR u I y BY @E l Patented Jan. 15, 1935 i" UNITED s'mrlzs PATENT A:OFFICE LABEL CARRYING CONTAINER Georgen. Hofe, south orange, N.`J. l Application February 27, 1934, Serial No. 713,087
" s claims. (c1. 1o-7)' My invention relates to label-carrying conshape as to havelprinted thereon such desigtainers and refers particularly to containers nating -marks and information as may be decarrying designating labels affixed thereto by sired, the two extremity portions of the labels means of the container closure.` being of such size and length as to allow them 5 Manufacturers frequently market a variety to be 'passed downwardly over the outer face 5 of commodities in containers of the same size of the side of a container closure and upwardly and shape, as for instance products such as face across the inner facethereof; yWhen such closcream, face cosmetics, face rouge, lip rouge, liure' having my label `positioned thereon as dequid preparations for the treatment of, the hair, scribed is placed upon the necky of a container,

Y y
My invention overcomes all of the above, and Figure 7` is a broken vertical section of a modother, objectionable features incident to the ied form of myfdevice, in which the closure is above described methods of packaging and markmaintained in place 'by frictional contact with ing containers, and presents a means whereby the neck of the container. 45 containers for a plurality of commodities may The particular form of my device shown in be purchased in bulk without the necessity of Fgures 1 to 6 consists of an annular cover, or embossing, whereby the printed matter may be closure member, having the top' 10 and the deincorporated with each container without the pendent side l1, the inner face of the side 11 expense of boxes and cartons and whereby the being threaded as shown. 50 expense of pasting labels upon the containers A strip label 12, composed of paper, cardboard, may be avoided. fabric, leather, cellophane or other suitable pli- In a broad way my invention consists of a able material, has an annular central portion label of paper, or other suitable material, the 13, the length of the strip 12 being such that it central portion of which is of such size and can be bent over the side 11 and continued 55 across the threaded portion of the inner face thereof.
A folded piece of suitable material 14 is attached to the central portion of the inner face of the strip 1l, which folded member 14 is adapted to have printed thereon directions for the employment of the contents of the container or other desired information.
An annular container consisting of the bottom member 15 and the side member 16,` has the upper outer portion of said side threaded to mesh with the threads of the closure member side 11.
If desired the strip label 12 may be scored at the lines of its curvature, as at 17, 17, 17.
In applying the device of my invention, the label is placed upon the top 10 of theclosure member, and bent down and around the side 11 of the closure member, the strip extending across the threads in said closure member. With the label in this position, the closure member is placed upon the container and around the upper portion of the side 16, and screwed thereon. It will thus be seen that the label is rmly attached in position across the upper outer face of the closure member while said closure member is screwed upon the container.
In order that the contents i the container may be identied when the label is removed and perhaps destroyed or lost, I prefer to paste or otherwise attach an identifying label 19 upon the bottom 15 of the container.
The modification of my device shown in Figure 7 is similar to that previously described, except that the neck of the container and the side of the closure are not threaded, the closure being maintained in place by frictional Contact.
In the particularly described forms of my invention, I have shown an annular jar, but it is evident that my invention is much broader than the particular illustrations, and that the container may be a bottle or of other form and that it may be square, oval or of other conguration, as long as the neck thereof will allow of the attachment of a closure and therefore I do not limit myself to the particular described form, shape, size or material of container, container closure, or labels as these have been given simply as a means for clearly describing my invention.
What I claim isz- 1. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having a neck, a closure having a downwardly extended side capable of being placed upon said neck and a label positioned across the outer face of said closure and extending between the inner face of said closure side and the outer face of said container neck, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from said neck.
2. In a label-carrying container, Vin combination, a container having a neck, a closure having a downwardly extended side capable of being placed upon said neck and a labelV maintained in fixed position across the outer face of said closure by the inner face of said closure side and the outer face of said container neck, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from said neck.
3. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having a neck, a closure having a downwardly extended side capable of being placed upon said neck, a label positioned across the outer face of said closure and extending between the inner face of said closure side and the outer face of said container neck, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from said neck, and a sheet of material attached to at least a portion of the under face of said label.
4. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having a neck, a closure having a downwardly extended side capable of being placed upon said neck and a label maintained iny xed position across the outer face of said closure bythe inner face of said closure side and the outerface of said container neck, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from said neck, and a sheet of material attached to at least a portion of the under face of said label.
5. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having an externally threaded neck, a closure capable of being threaded upon said neck and a label positioned across the outer face of said closure and extending between the threaded portions of said neck and said closure, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from the container.
6. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having an externally threaded neck, a closure capable of being threaded upon said neck and a label maintained in fixed position across the outer face of said closure by the threaded portions of said closure and said neck, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from said container.
7. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having an externally threaded neck, a closure capable of being threaded upon said neck and a label positioned across the outer face of said closure and extending between the threaded portions of said neck and said closure, said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from the container, and a sheet of material attached to at least a portion of the under face of said label.
8. In a label-carrying container, in combination, a container having an externally threaded neck, a closure capable of being threaded upon said neck, a label maintained in fixed position across the outer face of said closure by the threaded portions of said closure and said neck. said label being capable of removal intact upon the removal of said closure from said container, and a sheet of material attached to at least a portion of the under face of said label.
