The ring members 28, et seq., have limited rotative movement with respect to the plates or platforms 25, et seq., and the flanged supporting members 30 carried thereby.
The several depending rods 23 pass through these ring members 28, et seq.; the latter being apertured at 31 for this purpose. The rods 23 are provided with a plurality of shouldered portions 23 underlying the several ring members 28, et seq., carried by the respective plates or platforms 25, et seq., whereby the latter may be supported. The openings 31 in the ring members elongated,
through which the rods 23 pass are as clearly shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, and are of different dimensions between their end walls so that when said ring members 28, et seq., are in one position with respect to the rods, said ring,
members are supported by the shouldered portions 23 of said rods, while when said ring members are in another positiomwith respect to the rods 23, the shouldered portions of the latter may pass through the enlarged portions of the openings 31 in said ring members and through the openings 27 provided in the circular plates 25, 25 and 25 adjacent to the marginal-edges thereof; This condition is clearly illustrated inFigs. 5 and 6; Fig. 5 showing the narrow portion 31 of an opening 31 in registry with a rod'23 withthe shouldered portion 23 of the latter underlying the ring member, while Fig. 6 shows the changed position of the ring member, bringing the enlarged portion 31 .of the opening 31 into registry with the shouldered portion of the rod 23; such portion 31 of said opening being sufficiently large to permit the shouldered portion 23 of the rod 23 to pass through the same. It will be understood therefore that when the several ring members, 28, et seq., occupy the position indicated by Figs. 4 and 5, they and the superposed circular platforms 25, et seq., will be supported by the shouldered portions of the rods and upon fluid pressure being admitted to the cylinder 10 via the pipe 11, the ram will carry up the several annular platforms 25, 25 and 25 suspended from the platform 21, and the several sets of superposed weights 26, 26 and 26 a It may be desirable at times, depending upon the character of work performed by the hydraulic machinery associated with-the accumulator, to vary the load and to omit from the loading one or more of the circular platforms 25, 25, or 25 and the superposed weights carried thereby. As may be understood, these platforms must be released from the bottom upward. If therefore it is desired to omit the bottom platform 25 and the load imposed by its superposed weights 26", the bottom ringmember 28 is given sufficient rotative movement to bring the enlarged portions 31 of the openings 31 of the same into registry with the rods 23 and the shoulders 23 carried by the same, as indicated by Fig. 6, and upon movement being imparted to the ram the upper part-of the structure will be moved and the lower ends of the rods 23 and the shouldered portions thereof will pass through said ring 28 and through the openings 27 in the margin of the. platform 25 leaving the latter behind with its superposed weights 26. Each plate or platform may be released in a similar manner and, if desired, the entire loading of the accumulator may be reduced to such load as may be provided by the tank 22 and its contents, when employed, or any desired portion thereof.

Various modifications may be made in the above embodiment of my invention without dean operator situated at some distance from the parting from the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An accumulator comprising a cylindrical fluid-containing structure, a ram therein, a crosshead carried on the upper end of said ram, a plurality of weight-carrying sections beneath said cross-head and surrounding the fluid-containing portion of the accumulator, means for releasably connecting said weight-carrying sections to said cross-head including shouldered rods, means comprising revoluble ring members carried by said sections for effecting the connection or disconnection of said weight-carrying members with respect to said shouldered rods, and motor mechanism controllable from a point remote from said accumulator for actuating said ring members.
2. An accumulator comprising a liquid-containing cylinder, a vertically movable ram mounted therein, a cross-head carrying said ram, a plurality of load-carrying platforms encircling said cylinder, means for directly suspending the upper platform from said cross-head, a plurality of shouldered rods depending from the margin of said upper platform; the platforms below the upper platform being supported by said shouldered rods, ring members carried by said lower platforms and resting upon the shouldered portions of said rods; said ring members being revoluble whereby the loaded platforms may be released from the shouldered rods, and motor means carried by said platforms for moving said ring members.

The combination with an hydraulic accumulator comprising a liquid-containing cylinder, means for introducing liquid therein and a ram within said cylinder adapted to exert a pressure against the liquid therein, of load supporting means carried by said ram comprising a crosshead connected thereto and held against rotation, a plurality of rods suspended from said crosshead, a platform hung from said rods, a plurality of rods hung from the outer margin of said platform; each of said latter rods having a plurality of shoulders, a plurality of load-carrying platforms having openings through which said rods and shoulders may pass, a ring member having apertures registering with the openings of said load-carrying platforms and through which said rods pass carried by each of said platforms and revolubly movable to a position to be supported by the shouldered rods and to a position permitting passage of said shouldered rods through the ring members and load-carrying platforms; the apertures of said ring members having portions of different dimensions, and means for individually moving said ring members with respect tosaid load-carrying platforms to permit or prevent the passage of said shouldered rods through the apertures of the same.
4. The combination with an hydraulic accumulator comprising a liquid-containing cylinder, means for introducing liquid therein and a ram within said cylinder adapted to exert pressure against the liquid therein, of load supporting means carried by said ram comprising a crosshead connected thereto and held from rotation, a plurality of rods suspended from said crosshead, a platform disposed below said cross-head and supported by said rods, a plurality of shouldered rods hung from said platform, a load-carrying platform below said first-mentioned platform having openings through which said shouldered' bolts may pass, a ring member carried by said latter platform and having apertures registering with the openings thereof; said ring member being revolubly movable to a position to be supported by the shouldered rods and to a position permitting passage of said rods through the ring and platform, and means carried by said platform for moving said ring to permit or prevent the passage of the shouldered rods therethrough.
5. In a structure such as set forth in claim 4, means for moving the ring carried by the loadcarrying platform to permit or prevent the passage of the shouldered rods therethrough, comprising a motor carried by said load-carrying platform, gearing actuated by said motor, and a rack carried by said ring and operatively engaged by said gearing.
