Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE G. MUNGER, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
.iMPROVEMENT IN LUBRICATING COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Eettcrs Patent No. 198,664, dated December 25, 1877 application filed September 15, 1877.
To all whomit may conc rn 4 compound. The Japan wax serves the pur- Be it known that I, GEORGE G. MUNGER, pose of holding the plumbago in permanent of t e clty of Rochester, county of Monroe, suspension in the oil, which it does by floatand State of N ewYork, have invented a certain ing it throughout the same. It is also a good new and useful Improvement in Lubricating ubricant in itself, and possesses uuctuous Compounds; and I do hereby declare that the properties to a considerable degree. The talfollowing is a full, clear, and exact description low furnishes the necessary unctuous matter, of the same. and produces a commingling of animal and y improvement relates to liquid commineral oils in the mixture, which, on many pounds in which plumbago is used for the accounts, is desirable. The soda neutralizes purpose of increasing the lubricating qualithe acid in the tallow, and also has a binding ties; and consists of a compound of petroaction, producing a more perfect union of the leum-oil, plumbago, Japan wax, tallow, and elements in the compound. The tallow, soda soda.
The proportions of the ingredients may be mass to a saponifying process, which is ben e varied as necessity may require; but for ordificial. I d, om experiment, that Japan nary purposes I use the following: Petroleumwax is a superior agent for holding the plumoil, one gallon; plumbago, six ounces; Japan p wax, three ounces; tallow, four ounces; soda, wax and other substances well known for the one ounce. For the manufacture of this compurpose. A small quantity only is necessary, pound the above-named ingredients are mixed and it is very cheap. together and heated to a simmering heat, or, What I claim as my invention, and desire to say, 180 Fahrenheit, and actively stirred all secure by Letters Patent, is Y he compound consisting of petroleum-oil,
' eration the mixture should touch boilingplumbago, Japan wax, tallow, and soda, as
herein described, and for the purpose specihour, or thereabout. About twenty-four hours fied.
