According ,to, the/present invention, vjcerta-in keys of the. keyboard, such as those marked U and L, which are comprisedwithin the group of the. usual ninetycharacter keys of the keyboard, are employed for effecting shifting of the swing ing frame 12 tocarry theaoperating members 11 therein into operating ,relationwith the set 6 or the, set f escapement actuatingdevices for the upper and lower magazines respectively. The camsyand cam yokes for these keys are included among those already existing in the keyboard mechanism, but the operating rods or membersv ll and ll wcorresponding to these particularkeys, arearranged to act upon cams 22 and 23' respectivelywhen such .members;are lifted or actuated by the keyboard mechanism. These cams are fixed to the relatively stationary guide 10 for the lower ends of the escapement actuating devices 6 and 7, and they have inclined cam surfaces 22 and 23 respectively on their under sides, these cam surfaces of the cams being inclined in relatively reverse directions and extending transversely of the rows of escapement actuating devices 6 and 7. the parts as thus shifted being shown in Figure 4, and upon the descent or return motion of the;
