A wvwvv VIIIIIIIIIIVIIIIIIII w Z6522??? W Patented Dec. 11, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CLEANER Charles Brown Christie, Wichita Falls, Tex. Application July 18, 1933, Serial No. 681,035 1 Claim. (Cl. P2 56) The invention relates to cleaners,-and more especially to drain pipe cleaners or the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein a water lead is had from a faucet to a drain pipe or the like so that said pipe can be cleaned with dispatch and without possibility of leakage at the inlet end' of such pipe, the device being novel in construction.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the discharge end or outlet nozzle of the same is so formed that pressure thereon from the hand of a user will assure a tight union between it and the inlet end of the drain or other pipe so that leakage at this point is eliminated.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a 'device of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, readily and easily handled, portable, strong, durable, conveniently attached and detached to and from a faucet, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse sectional view through a sink showing the device constructed in accordance with the invention applied to a faucet and the waste pipe or drain pipe.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the attaching collar for the device.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Reference to the drawing A designates generally a kitchen sink which is 01' any standard type, B the water faucet which supplies water to said sink. and C the sunken drain strainer connection between the said sink and the drain pipe 5, the latter and said connection being of the ordinary kind.
Adapted for detachable connection with the faucet B is the cleaning device constituting the present invention which comprises a rubber tubing 6, which may be of any desirable length and cross-sectional size. This tubing 6 at one end is formed with an enlarged circular head '7 having an external groove or channel 8 in which is seated a collar 9, preferably made from metal. The collar 9 is formed with an eye 10 while diametrically opposite the latter is an inverted hookll, the eye 10 being connected with a link chain 12 which is adapted to be trained over the faucet B when the head 7 is telescopically pressed over the mouth of said faucet so that a selective link of the chain can be engaged with the hook 11. In this manner the head 7 can be firmly and securely coupled with the faucet B, as will be clearly apparent without accidental detachment of the tubing from the said faucet due to water pressure when the faucet is opened.
The tubing 6 for a considerable distance of the other end portion is formed with a thickened nozzle 13 having a larger outwardly tapered tip or terminal 14, which is designed to be inserted in the connection for wedging engagement therein so as to provide a fluid tight contact that there will be no leakage therebetween.
With the device applied as heretofore described the water delivered by the faucet B when opened will be forced under pressure directly into the drain pipe without leakage at said faucet or strainer connection and in this manner the drain pipe 5 will be thoroughly cleaned with dispatch.
What is claimed is: A drain .pipe cleaner, comprising a length of flexible tube having a nozzle end of greater external diameter than said tube and extending for a considerable distance of its length, and.
a truncated conical head at the extremity of the nozzle end to provide an outwardly tapered.
nipple, said nipple being of considerably greater portion than the nozzle diameter at its innermost end.
CHARLES BROWN CHRISTIE.
