and exact to enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 represents a front view of a lampshade device embracing my invention. Fig.

My invention consists in an adjustable shade.

supporting device, the parts of which are constructed from wire, and organized for operation substantially as hereinafter described; also, in the combination, with the supporting devices, of the adjustably-arranged shade, the details of construction and subject-matter claimed being hereinafter definitely specified.

In the drawings, A denotes the main supporting-rod, which is formed from a piece of wire of proper length, doubled, as at a, to form the two parallel elastic side bars a a at the upper extremities of which the wires are turned inward and twisted together, as at a, while above the twisted portion thefends separate and are bent downward at a sharp angle, forming the hooks a a as shown.

A brace-bar, B, is adjustably arranged on the rod A, as illustrated. Said brace B consists of a piece of wire having one end bent in the form shown at b, for a bearing-foot,

while its upper end is wound or coiled around the side bars a a, forming an eye or loop, I),

by means of which the bar B is adjustably joined to the rod A.

The shade-piece G, of paper or other suitable material, is held to the rod A by means of a clamp, D, which consists of a piece of wire having its central portion coiled around the side bars a a, to form a slide or loop, 61, from the sides of which the Wires extend outward, as at d, and are then turned upward, as at d, with their ends d bent over and re adjusted position throughout their length, so

that no other fastening or looking devices are required.

The twisted portion a and the loops 6 01 also form connectin gjointsbetween the several parts, which are not injured or aifected by the 1 heat from the lamp-flame, while the parts being formed from wire, in the manner shown, renders the device very cheap, as well as durable, compact, and convenient.

The shade is arranged for use upon a lamp by placing the hooksa over the top of the chimney, and permitting the foot I) of the brace B to rest against the exterior of the chimney, as illustrated in Fig. 3.

The height of the shade-piece O can be varied by sliding the loop d on the rod A, while the degree of inclination at which the shade rests can be varied by adjustment of the brace B along the rod A, in a similar manner.

The size, form, and ornamentation of the shade-piece 0 may be varied to suit the taste,

as any suitable pattern can be fitted into the clamp D without trouble.

Having described my improvements in lamp-shades, what I claim as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The supporting-rod A, formed from wire, and having the spring side bars a al, twisted connection of, and hooked ends a for the purposes set forth.

2. In combination with, the supporting-rod A, having spring side bars a, the brace-bar B, having its end coiled around said side bars a,

forming an adjustable connection, b, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. In combination with the supporting-rod A, having spring side bars a a, the adjustable shade-clamp D, having connecting-eye d, Witness-my hand this 21st day of Novemarms d, and olasping ends 61 d substantially her, A. D. 187 7 as and for the purpose set forth.

4. In combination, substantially as described, the supporting-rod A, having hooked ends a and elastic sides a, the brace-bar B, having eye I) and bearing-foot b, the sliding clamp D, with eye d and olasps 01 02 and the shade-piece G, for the purposes set forth.
