COMBINATION CLOTHES HANGER AND GAMPHOR HOLDER Filed May 8, 1933 INVENTOR HX R MAN \TDIJEPH Roam) ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 20, 1934 UNITED STATES COMBINATION CLOTHES HANGER. AND
CAMPHOR HOLDER,

' York, N. Y.
Application May 8, 1933, Serial No. 669,840
Claims.
, This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combination clothes hanger and camphor holder.
The invention has for an object the construc- 5 tion of an article as mentioned which is characterized by a pair of support members for engaging the shoulder portions of a garment and connected at an angle with each other, and a perforated member for forming a compartment for camphor, beneath said pair of support members at their junction.
Still further the invention proposes arranging the pair of support members in a manner so that the portion of the junction thereof forms a portion for engaging the neck portion of a garment, and furthermore the location of the perforated member beneath said pair of members at the junction thereof so as to efliciently hold the camphor at the neck portion of the garment arranged so that the fumes or vapors are directed downwards to the remaining portion of the garment. A hanger thus constructed adds to the usefulness of the hanger without subtracting any of the features inherent in present day hangers of similar construction.
Still further the invention contemplates arranging the perforated member from sheet material which is bent so as to comprise a front wall, a rear wall, and a bottom connecting wall between said walls, and which is adapted to be attached along the free edges of the front and rear walls upon the bottom sides of said support members atthe junction of the support members.
Still further the invention contemplates arranging the perforated member which forms the camphor compartment with an opening providing for the insertion of camphor therein, and means for closing said opening. V
As another object of this invention it is proposed to provide a novel means for closing the opening constituting the entrance to the camphor compartment including a single strip of material bent to extend over the opening and bent so as to engage against one of the support members in a manner so as to normally resiliently close said opening.
Still further the invention contemplates providlng a member adapted to engage over the entrance opening in said perforated member and hingedly connected upon one side thereof and formed with a bulged portion adapted to engage against another edgeof the opening so as to act as a catch for holding the member in its closed position.
Still further the invention proposes the construction of an article as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may' be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a clothes hanger and camphor holder constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom elevational view of the perforated member which forms the camphor compartment, per se.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the strip of material which acts as a closure for the entrance opening to the camphor compartment.
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the perforated member for forming the camphor compartment of the clothes hanger constructed according to a modification of this invention.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
The combination clothes hanger and camphor holder according to this invention comprises a pair of support members 10 and 11 for engaging the shoulder portion of a garment and connected at one of their ends at angles to eachother. A connecting rod 12 is mounted between the lower ends of the members 10 and 11 so as to reinforce and rigidly hold them in place and forms a support for flat garments, as pants, skirts, etc. A hook 13 is connected at the top and at the junction of the pairs of support members 10 and 11. Thus far the hanger is very similar to a conven-. tional wooden hanger generally used at the present time for coats, etc.
In conjunction with the pairs of support members, a perforated member for forming a compartment for the camphor is provided and comprises a front wall 14, a rear wall 15 and a bottom wall 16 connecting the front and rear walls. This perforated member is attached along the free edges of the front and rear walls upon the bottom sides of the support members 10 and 11 at the junction of the support members. The attachment may be accomplished by a plurality of small nails 1'7 driven through the edges of the front and rear walls and into the material forming the support members.
The front wall 14, the rear wall 15 and the bottom wall 16 are formed with a plurality of perforations 18 for the circulation of air from the interior which forms a camphor .compartment to the atmosphere. The perforated member is also formed with an opening 19 for the insertion of camphor into said compartment.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs.
1-4 inclusive the opening 19 is located in the bottom wall 16 spaced 9. small distance from one of the ends thereof. A means is provided for closing this opening and comprises a strip of material 20 located immediately above the bottom wall 16 and having one end 21 bent and engaging over the end of the wall 16. This bent end 21 is clamped in between the end of the wall 16 and one of the support members for maintaining its position. The material which forms the strip 20 is doubled upon itself forming a second layer 22 which has an end 23 terminating in a bent finger adapted to engage against the inner side of one of the support members so as to provide resiliency for holding the strip in position across the opening 19. The strip 20 and the portion 22 is also formed with perforations 18' arranged at the location corresponding with the opening 19.
The portions 20 and 22 of the strip of material extend over the opening 19 so as to close this opening. To insert camphor within the compartment it is merely necessary to press against the portion 20 so as to bend the strip against the action of the' finger 23. The camphor balls or other camphor may then be inserted into the compartment. When the strip is released the finger 23, which is pressing against the underside of one of the support strips, acts to close the opening 19.
In Figs. 5 and 6 a modified arrangement of the invention has been disclosed in which the perforated member for forming the camphor compartment is shown-formed with an opening 25 in one of its side walls. This opening is closed by a member 26 which is hingedly mounted at its lower edge upon the bottom edge of the opening '25. The hinged connection is formed by lugs 27 from the member 26 and the material of the perforated member at the side of the opening 25, turned around a pintle pin 28. The upper end of the member 26 is formed with a bulged portion 29 acting as a catch against the upper edge of the opening 25. The extreme extremity of the upper end of the member 26 is formed with a slightly flared out portion 30 acting as a finger grip so that the member 26 may be easily gripped to move it into an opened position.
The finger nail may be engaged beneath the outturned portion 30 and pressure applied so as to cause the bulged portion 29 to flex and the member 26 to hinge out from its position so that the opening 25 is exposed. The camphor may then be inserted within the camphor compartment and thereafter themember 26 forced into its original closed position.
While we have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, we realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. We therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrange-- ment of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-
