Application April 7, 1933, Serial No. 665,017
7 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in support for pans and the like.
The principal objects of the invention are directed to the provision of a device for support- 5 ing a pan or the like which consists essentially of a supporting frame to which are pivotally and slidably connected a plurality of supporting members so that the device may be made to suit various conditions and is adapted to assume collapsed and set up relations.
Where range 0-11 burners are installed in a stove, range or the like, the upper side of the burner is disposed at a considerable distance below the lid opening in the stove so that the most efficient heating effect is not obtainable. According to the novel construction of the pan support of this invention, a pan or the like may be supported in the lid opening of a range or stove so that its lower side is in close proximity to the oil burner and thereby the best heating effects may be obtained.
The novel features of the invention which will hereinafter more fully appear reside in the provision of a supporting frame member, preferably in the form of a ring or the like which has pivoted and slidable therein a plurality of pan supporting members. This is so the device may be made to accommodate lid openings of various diameters and the supporting members thereof may be swung between collapsed and set-up positions while special means is provided to hold the supporting members in set-up position.
Various novel features and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter more fully referred to in connection with the accompanying description of the preferred form of the invention which is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a device of the invention showing the novel features thereof.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of an auxiliary supporting member which may be associated with the device shown in Fig. l, and v Fig. 6 is a small scale inverted plan view of the device shown in Fig. 1 with the parts in collapsed relation.
Referring to the drawing more in detail the invention will be fully described.
The device includes a frame or main support 2, two or more supporting members 3 and a handle 6 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The frame member 2 may be made in the form of a ring or it may take various forms. It 'is preferably made from a relatively thin .strip of material which may have its ends joined together in any suitable manner. The handle 6 may also be of flat material with its inner end secured to the frame 2 in any suitable manner.
The supporting members 3 are preferably in the form of Us as shown and have cross members 4 and side members 8 which are bent upwardly therefrom. The extremities 10 of the sides are bent outwardly so as to pass through suitable openings provided in the ring 2. The members 3 and the openings in the ring receiving the parts 10 of said members are preferably so arranged that the members 4 are in a transverse relative position when the members are swung to the set up positions shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. These members 3 are preferably made from relatively spring-like wire.
The cross members 4 in their central part are provided with sockets such as shown at 12 in Fig. 2. These sockets are arranged for inter-engage- '3 ment one with the other so that the members 3 are held in the set-up position shown in Figs. '1 and 2. In this position the members 4 are disposed so as to support a pan or the like which may extend downwardly within the ring 2.
When it is desired to collapse the members 3 to the position shown in Fig. 6 theyare swung on their pivotal connections with the'frame so that the parts 4 thereof may lie closely adjacent the frame one on top of the other. In this relation the pan support is relatively fiat and thin to facilitate compactness and ease in shipping.
As stated the parts 10 of the supports are preferably slidable in the openings in the frame so that the device maybe used in association with lid openings of different diameters. The parts 10 may slide relative to the frame whereby the parts 8 of the supports may move in and out and in that way the overall diameter of the side parts 8 of the members 3 are adjustable to suit condi- 1 0 tions.
In use the device is set over the lid opening of a range or the like so that the members 3 extend therebelow carrying the cross members 4 disposed above the range burner. With an exceptionally large lid opening the parts 10 may be used to rest on the stove top around the opening and support the device. Otherwise the ring 2 may rest on the top of the stove around the opening.
In some cases it is desirable to provide a supplemay be adjusted or moved between collapsedand set-up position.
With these supporting parts in place in the frame the cross members 22 thereof are located:
above the cross members 4 of the members 3.
When not desired for use the side membBIS2 l may be moved inwardly to remove the their respective openings.
parts 26 from The parts may be made from various materials as may be desired in order to providea strong" rigid device adapted for the purpose oi the inven-. tion." The formof'the several component parts off the structure maybe varied" in accordance with the inventionto adapt the device oithe invention to various conditions.
