Description

M. BURNETT.
Stop-Cock. No. 197,994. Patented ncfn, 18?? ,fiwrdfw lam Union The Parent? FFICEL- MARSHALL BURNETT, OF HYDE PARK, MAB?! AOHUSETTS,
lh lPROVEiVlENT IN STOP-$032 13.
fification. forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,99d, dated Decemhor ll. 18?? application filed November 20, 1577;
To all whom l1. nmg concern:
Be known that l, Illnnsnhnn BURNETT, of Hyde Perl-z, of the county ofNorfolk and State of Maosachusctts, have invented a new and useful i211 rovcnicnt in Stopllocks for Hydraulic or Pipes; and do hereby declare' the same m be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying dra w s, of Which- Figure 1 1s a vertical and longitudinal section of a stopcock provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a front view, Fig. 3 a side view, and Fig. 4 a transverse section, of the valve-seat facing and its holder, as they are made before being fastened together.
In such drawings, A denotes the box or case, B the valve, and C the operative screw,
of the said valve, such case being provided with educts I) 1), leading from it in manner as represented. The valve is acircular block of metal, tapering or wedgeshap'ed in transverse section, as shown.
In carrying out my. invention I combine with the valve and its case, and each of the educts, a valveseat metallic facing, E, and a tubular and flanged holder, F, therefor. The said holder has its shank a inserted in the month of the cduct, and held therein by means of lead b, cast and driven in between it and the surroumiing inner surface of the educt.
This holder has a circular dovetail: groove, I), made in its flange, to receive a cor nonding dovcl ailcd tongm, extending from the brass or metallic facing E. The said tongue concave crmlsversely, shown at d, and the facing is made convex on its outer surface, as shown at 6. After having inserted the dove tailed tonguevwithin the dovetailed groove, (such. tongue being made so to be capable of being inserted in such groove,) the faceplate is to he hammered clown, so as to spread the tongue tightly within the groove, and thereby confine the facing to the holder. The
facing should next be turned or made flat on its outer surface, to lit the side of the valve.
In applying the holders to the valve-case they, with the faciugs attached to them, as dc scribed, are to be inserted in place in the cducts; after which the valve should he forced down to its lowest positionin the case. Next, the case should he turned up, sc as to cause a facing to-rest or bear equally on the valve; af-
1. The combination of the metallic valve scat facing E and its tubular holder F,.substantially as described, with the stop-cook case, valve, and educt, all being arranged as set forth.
2. The holder F, provided with the dovetailed annular groove 1), in combination with the ring or facing 12, having the convexity c2,
the dovetailed tongue 0, and the concavity thereto, all as set forth.
3. The facing having the dovetailed tongue,
the concavit; d and convexity 0, arranged with it, as described, and for fixation of such facing to its holder, as set forth.
MARSHALL .BURNETT.
