Description

NOV. 6, 1934. J. F. HUCKEL 1,979,549
PORTABLE REIFRESHMENT STAND Filed Nov. l0. 1932 Eig. 1. f?
IN1 A'EN TOR.
ATTORNEY,
Patentes Nov. s, 1934 `UNITED "STATES vPA'rlslv'r OFFICE My invention relates tota portable refreshment stand and more vparticularly to one of wagon type which may be propelled over the licor or platform of a railway station for service of cool drinks, ice cream cones, and the like, to
passengers in waiting rooms, or v in railway coaches, or over the floor of an vauditorium or the like for service .to spectators `or participants of aflarge gathering, of people. v
As the invention is particularly directed to an apparatus for. dispensing cool liquid or solid refreshments, it is an object of the invention to provide apparatus in which the refreshments may be maintained at desirably low temperatures, and as the apparatus is particularly intended for use in floored enclosures, it is a further object of the invention to avoid soiling of the floors over which the device is propelled by dripping of the refrigerant :employed for coolins.
It is a furtherobject of the invention to provide a sanitary device of the character stated of attractive appearance and arrangement, and convenient for customers and attendants.
In accomplishing these yand other objects of the invention,` Ihave provided'improved details of structure, the preferred form of whichis illustrated in the accompanying drawingfwherein:
Fig. 1 is a'perspective view of a refreshment wagon embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section on an irregular line extending centrally through the refreshment compartment and through an adjacent utility section.
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section through a part of the frame particularly illustrating the supporting wheel mounting.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged section through a corner of the wagon body, particularly illustrating the drainage control.
Referring more in detail to the drawing:
1 designates end sills and 2 a center sill eX- tending transversely of the wagon and supporting the iioor 3 of al body portion thereof, the
floor preferably consisting of boards 4 and 5 and an intervening body 6 of heat insulating material.
Enclosing the sills and floor and rising thereabove, are side and end walls "7, preferably of sheet metal, reinforced by edge, corner and intermediate strips 8, 9 and 10 and seated on the fioor between the side and end walls are tanks 11, preferably of metal and square in cross section to conform to the contour of the wagon body; the walls 55 of the tanks being spaced from the side and end walls of the wagon body and from each other to provide spaces for non-heat-conductive material 12, the ends of the tanks being preferably provided with reinforcing metal sheets 13.
Seated on the floor within one of the compartments is a tank 14 adapted for containing liquid refreshment, such as orange juice, orthe like, and of a diameter to provide a space rthereabout for suitable refrigerant 15, such as crackedice which vmay be salted to provide a cooling brine. 65
Seated on the floor within the other compartment is a perforated cylinder 16 adapted for containing an ice cream can 18 of ordinary construction, including a cover 19. One end of thev body portion just described is extended by prolonga- .70 tions of its side Walls to providestorage space for utilities or the like, and preferably equipped with drawers 20 movable laterally into and from spaces within the extension on suitable supports such as rails 21. The drawers are preferably of a length to provide space adjacent one side of the wagon to accommodate a suspended receptacle 22 for an ice cream dipper 23, or other utility.
The entire top of the wagon, including the body part and end extension is covered by a main top 24 and the separate tanks provided with individual cover portions 25 and 26,v one provided with a door 27 for providing access to the ice cream can and the other adapted for carrying pump equipment of ordinary construction, preferably including a main pump 29 extended to the bottom of the tank 14 and having an operating lever 30 and nozzle 31 exposed above the lid.
I also prefer to provide an auxiliary vessel 32 for storage of flavors and to suspend the auxiliary` vessel from a sub-lid 33 on the main lid 28 and provide for service of the liquid fiavoring with a pump 34 in accordance with common practice.
The utility receptacle in the other end of the body may be suspended from the main top of the top member and made accessible through a door 35.
The wagon body is supported on a pair of main wheels 36 journalled on suitable axles 37 mounted on the ends 38 of a bar 39 attached to the under 100 side of the central sill 2 and upturned at the sides of the body, as by this form of mounting the wagon body may be carried closer to the ground and thereby provide for a maximum capacity for a minimum elevation of the top of the wagon.
To stabilize the wagon, I mount a third caster wheel 40 in a yoke 41 attached to a bar 42 extending rearwardly from one end of the wagon body within the extended portion, the bar 42 being preferably spaced from the bottom plane of` 110 46 having an outlet port 47 leading to a drain' conduit 48. Mounted on the plate 46 is a guide yoke 49 and extending through the guide yoke near the top of the tank is a rod, ghavingavalve 51 at its lower end yieldingly urged t seat in the port 47 by spring 52 surrounding the rod and bearing at its respective nendsagainstthe, end of the guide yoke and the top of thel valve. THe rod 50 is provided with a handle 53 at its lrp'per fend.
