Description

G. A. MIGPADDEN. Cooking-Stove.
No. 197,785. Patented Dec.g4,1877.
NJI'ERS, FHUTULIYHOGHAPHER, WASHINGTON. ILC
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. MCFADDEN, OF JORDAN STATION, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN COOKING-STOVES..
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,785, dated December 1 1, 1877; application filed K September 14, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE ABRAHAM MCFADDEN, of Jordan Station, county of Fulton and. State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Cooking-Stove, of which the following is a specification:
Figure lis a vertical section of my improved stove. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same, part being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the damperadjuster, partly in section through the line y y, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish v a cooking-stove which shall be so constructed that the heat may be sent in equal quantities above and below the oven, or more above and less below, or less above and more below, or all above, or all below, as may be required,
Y and which shall be simple in construction, and
economical in the use of fuel.
The invention consists .in a cooking-stove provided with a damper at the upper'. forward corner of the oven, with a due extending along the top of the oven, down its rear side, and connecting with a iue at its lower rear corner, and with a iiue extending down the forward side of the oven, along its bottom, and connecting with a flue at its lower rear corner, as hereinafter fully described.
In the drawing, A is the nre-chamber, which is' formed in the upper forward part of the stove, and beneath which is formed a heatingchamber, B, to keep things warm untilrequired for use.
C is the oven, which is formed in the rear of the fire and heating chambers A B. At the upper 'forward corner of the oven C is hinged the edge of a damper, D, which may be turnedup against the top of the stove to send all the heat through the lower Hue E, or may be turned down upon the upper edge of the back wall of the fire-chamber A to send all the heat through the upper iiue F.
The damper D may also be adjusted to send equal quantities of heat through both fines, or more through one iiue than the other, as circumstances may require.
The stem of the damperDpasses outthrough al hole in the side of the stove, and is squared or ilattened to receive the handle G, by which it is operated.
Upon the side of the stove, around the hole throughV which the stem of the damper D passes, is formed a collar, d', having notches formed in its inner 'surface to receive the edge g', formed upon the side of the base of the handle G, to hold the damper D in any position into which-it may beadjusted.
In adjusting the damper D the handle G is drawn outwardto free itsv edge g from the notches of the collar d', is turned to bring the said damper into the required position, and is then pushed inward to bring its edge g into one of the notches ofthe collar d', to again secure the damper in place..
The upper iiue F passes over the top of the oven C, down its rear side, and at the rear lower `corner of the oven C connects with a iiue, H, extending up at the rear side of the stove. f
The lower flue E passes down in front of the oven C, passes along its bottom, and at the rear lower corner of said oven connects with a ue, I, which passes up at the rear of the nue H. L
The dues H I are entirely distinct, and, a
little above the top of the stove, are designed to enter a stove-pipe or a chimney-nue.
The iiues E F, by this construction, are of the same length, and have the saine number of turns, so that the draft will pass as readily through one as through the other, which enables itto be divided and sent in 'any desired proportionthrough eitheriiue, as circumstances may require.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A cooking-stove, provided with a damper, D, at the upper forward corner of the oven O, with a flue, F, extending along the top of the oven C, down its rear side, and connecting with a flue, H, at its lower rear corner, and provided also with a iiue, E, extending down the forward side of the oven C, along its bottom, and connecting with a flue, I, at its lower rear corner, substantially as herein shown and described.
GEORGE ABRAHAM MCFADDEN.
