Description

@cf.9, 1934. A. LORENZ 1,976,449
SEAT OR CHAIR WITH ONE SUPPORT Filed may 7, 1932 Patented Oct. 9, 1934 UNI-TED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2Claims.
This invention relates to chairs substantially constructed from steel tubes. The object o! the invention is to provide a chair which may be manufactured more cheaply than the steel chairs 8 hitherto used. For this purpose a single resilient metallic tube beginning with a bow is made to errtend upwardly from a suitable base, then the tube is bent to a horizontal portion to which a seat is attached, and finally the tube is bent to an in- M clined portion to which a back is attached. The
seat and the back may be connected with the resilient tube in any well known manner, for instance, by means of clamps or supporting arms or the like.
The base is preierabhr Iormed by the resilient tube itself the lower end of which is bent for this purpose in a plane to a rectangular or circular shape.
The invention is illustrated by the annexed W drawing of which torepart of therectangle, beginning with abowg" upwardly in an inclined direction. forming a straight portion 7:, whereupon it is bentto a horizontal portion to which the seat is attached. andflnallythetubeisbenttoaninciinedportion to which the back d is attached. The fastening means are not shown as they are common in the art.
In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the lower end of the tube a, a. is bent in a plane to a '0 loop or circle and rises Irom the back forming an s-shaped bow b.
When constructing a chair according to the present invention less tubular material and bends are required than for the usual type of steel 68 chairs. A iurther advantage lies in the fact that the awkward lateral supports are omitted, thus making a ireer movement of the feet of the person using said seat or chair possible. These frames can moreover bevery compactly packed 70 for transport.
I claimra 1. A chair comprising a resilient tube one end 0! which is bent in a plane to form a base, the other end of said tube extending upwardly in form 0! a bow to form a single upwardly directed leg portion whereupon it is bent to a horizontal and finally to an inclined portion, a seat attached to the said horizontal portion and a back attached to the inclined portion 01 the tube.
- 2. A resilient chair comprising a. single con-, tinuous tube, said tube bent to. form a' flat horizontal base support and extending upwardly from said base as a single upwardly directed stem bent to form a horizontal portion above said base and terminating in an upwardly inclined portion, a seatattached'to the horizontal; portion of the tube,'and a back attached to the inclined portion or the tube.
