The present invention relates to a toy and has for its prime object to provide an apparatus which simulates a cat or the like jumping after a mouse or the like.

Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a toy and amusement device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, sufiiciently strongv and durable, easy to manipulate, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in View as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a rectangular platform mounted on a marginal depending skirt 6 which slightly flares downwardly and outward- 1y. An elongated slot '7 is provided in the intermediate portion of the platform 5 and merges at one end into a wider extension 8. Depending from the platform 7 and in communication with the slot '7 and its extension 8 is a casing 9 having at one end adjacent the extension 8 a bottom 10 a portion of which 11 inclines upwardly and merges into the platform. A shaft 12 is journalled through the casing 9 and through the skirt 6 and the shaft has extending therefrom an elongated rod 14 and a substantially short rod 15 disposed in opposite directions from each other. The elongated rod 14 is movable in the slot '7.

- The numeral 17 represents a member or figure,

simulating a cat, and of hollow construction and open at the bottom, as shown in Figure 5 and the upper end of the rod 14 is pivotally engaged therein as at 18. A similarly constructed figure 19 but simulating a mouse has a link 20 engaged therewith and engaged with the end of the rod 15, A spring metal catch 20' is mounted on one end of the platform remote from the slot extension 8 and is adapted to engage in an opening 21 provided in the figure 1'7.

A coil spring 22 is disposed about the shaft 12 outside of the casing 9 and has one end fixed to the shaft 12 and the other end fixed to a bracket 23 extending inwardly from one side of the skirt 6. When the figure 17 is moved from the position shown in Figure 2 to the position shown in Figure 1 and engaged by the catch 20 the spring 22 is under tension and the figure 19 is on the platform. By releasing the catch the cat simulating figure 1'7 jumps over to the position of the mouse simulating figure 19 and the mouse simulating figure 19 moves down the inclined extension 11 of the bottom 10 to the position indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2.

It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

A toy of the class described comprising a hollow base having a longitudinally extending slot in its top part formed with an enlarged end portion terminating adjacent one end of the top part of the base, a member located in the base and extending from the outer end of the enlarged part of the slot downwardly and inwardly to a point under that part of the top adjacent the point where the slot connects with the enlarged part thereof, a shaft located in the base and extending transversely thereof, a long arm connected with the shaft and passing through the slot above the top of the base to a point adjacent one end of the base, a figure connected to the outer end of the arm, a short connected with the shaft and extending in an opposite direction from the long arm, a link connected to the outer end of said short arm, a figure connected to the link for normally resting on the end of the top part of the base adjacent said member, and means for rotating the shaft whereby the long arm will cause the first figure to jump from one end of the base to the other end thereof and the short arm and the link will draw the second figure down the sloping member.
