, scribed the lower portion of the flange or extension 3 will be folded over the outer face of the portion 2 and secured thereto by the adhesive. The lower portion of the flange or extension 4 will be folded over the outer face of the portion 1 and secured thereto by the adhesive. It will be understood and seen that the portions 6 and '7 are folded with the flanges 3 and 4, respectively, and when the flanges or extensions arefolded and secured in position the portions 6 and 7 provide a tight closure adjacent the bottom of the receptacle or cup and the folding and securing of the flanges or extensions form tight seams at the sides of the receptacle or cup. As shown more particularly in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings the side seams extend at an angle from the true vertical with the bottom edges of the seams being directed inwardly towards the vertical center of opposed sides of the receptacle or cup, the lower ends of the flanges or extensions extending upwardly at an angle, as shown more particularly at 11 and 12 in Figs. -1 and 2 of the drawings. The angles at which the flanges or extensions are positioned aid in forming a tight closure at the bottom of the receptacle or cup. 7
From the above detailed description it is thought that the manner in which the receptacle or cup is formed from the blank of materialwill be clearly understood. In the folding of the blank and securing of the side edges, it will be seen that I have provided a receptacle having a round normally open mouthportion and a body portion which is of substantially wedge-shape tapering downwardly to provide a flat relatively wide bottom adapted to be engaged by the fingers when removinga terminal receptacle or cup from a stack thereof and whileusing. A cup or receptacle of this formation has the advantages of both the well-known types-of cylindrical and flat cups. My cup or receptacle is of a formation whereby a relatively large number. may be nested in a 'with the flngers will have a tendency to slide the terminal cup from the next cup in the stack thererelatively small stack. This is of particular advantage where the cups are to be dispensed from a dispensing machine and obviates the necessity of an attendant frequently replenishing or refilling. The terminal receptacle'or cup may be removed from the stack, as previously stated, by grasping the relatively wide flat bottom edge and in withdrawing the terminal cup from the stack and necessary compression caused by engagement by facilitating its removal. The overlapped and adjoining portions of the walls or portions 1 and 2 being'continuous and free from creases or folds serve as reinforcements tending to resist collapse or closing of the mouth portion. By forming my receptacle or cup of relatively light material and of a single blank or piece of material-the same may be cheaply made and by folding the blank on a transverse horizontal line as I have described a water-tight bottom is provided to prevent leakage. The formation of the portions 6 and 7, extending beyond the fold line of the blank also aids in forming a tight closure at each side of the-bottom to prevent leakage at the bottom adjacent the side seams.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Fatent is:-
A paper drinking cup having an open self-extended mouth and a downwardly tapered rounded body terminating in a wedge-shaped bottom, said cup being formed from a single piece of material folded on a medial transverse line to provide opposite wall portions, edges of the wall portions being overlapped and secured together, the overlapped edges of the wall portions providing longitudinal reinforcements throughout the length of the body, and at the sides thereof, the reinforcements being positioned on opposite sides of the medial fold line of the material.
