Description
21, c. H. ZWERMANN I 1,970,790
LAVATORY Filed April 28, 1953 INVENTOR A TTOR NE Y S Patented Aug. 21, 1934 UNITED STATES LAVATORY Carl H. Zwermann, Robinson, 111.; Helene Zwermann and Carl H. Zwermann, Jr., executrix and executor of said Carl H. Zwermann, de-
ceased Application April 28, 1933, Serial No. 668,369
6 Claims. (01. 4-1'70) The objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a pedestal type of lavatory having means to adjust the height and position of the bowl to make the bowl level.
Second, to provide such a lavatory in which the adjustable leveling means are completely hidden without marring the appearance of the structure.
Third, to provide a lavatory in which the leveling and adjusting means are simple and cheap.
Further objects and advantages pertaining to details and economies of construction and operation will appear from the description to follow. A preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a view partly in section showing a lavatory made according to my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the supporting pedestal.
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of one of my adjustable supports taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The parts will be identified by their numerals of reference which are the same in all the views.
1 is a supporting pedestal and 2 is the bowl of a pedestal type lavatory which I have used to illustrate my invention. The bowl 2 has a depending flange 3 adapted to fit over the top 4 of the pedestal 1. This construction makes possible variations in the distance between the pedestal top 4 and the bowlwithout leaving an unsightly crack.
Spaced circumferentially about the top 4 of pedestal l are a plurality of metallic bushings 5 internally threaded as at 6, each having therein a screw 7. The bushings are arranged to be flush with the top of the pedestal and are held in place by suitable cement 8. The screws 7 are of such length that they can be screwed down flush with the supporting top 4 of the pedestal and are provided with a slot 9 for insertion of a screw driver for adjusting the position. I have shown an arrangement with three circumferentially arranged bushings and screws, although it will be understood that more can be used if desired, three being all that are necessary to support the bowl in desired position.
These screws may be adjusted as shown in Fig. 1 to give a slight adjustment as to the height of the bowl and each screw may be individually adjusted to properly level the bowl.
My improved lavatory is very easily adjustable and the adjustments are cheap and easily inserted.
I have described my invention in the form preferred by me but wish to claim the same broadly as well as specifically, as pointed out in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a lavatory, a. pedestal having a bowl supporting top, a bowl having a depending flange fitting about and extending below and concealing said top and adjustable bowl-supporting and leveling means comprising a plurality of circumferentially-arranged spaced internallythreaded bushings sunk in and set in said top, each having therein a screw adapted to be adjusted to engage and support said bowl in desired position.
2. In a lavatory, a pedestal having a bowl supporting top, a bowl having a depending flange fitting about and extending below and concealing said top and adjustable bowl-supporting and leveling means comprising a plurality of spaced internally-threaded bushings sunk in and set in said top, each having therein a screw adapted to be adjusted to engage and support said bowl in desired position. I
3. In a lavatory, a bowl support having a top, a bowl having a depending flange fitting about and extending below and concealing said top and adjustable bowl-supporting and leveling means comprising a plurality of circumferentially-arranged spaced internally-threaded bushings sunk in and set in said top, each having therein a screw adapted to be adjusted to engage and support said bowl in desired position.
4. In a lavatory, a bowl support having a top, a bowl having a depending flange fitting about and extending below and concealing said top and adjustable bowl-supporting and leveling means comprising a plurality of spaced internally-threaded bushings sunk in and set in said top, each having therein a screw adapted to be adjusted to engage and support said bowl in desired position.
5. In a lavatory, the combination of a pedestal member and a bowl member in abutting relationship and telescopically connected to conceal the point of abutment, one member having a plurality of spaced bushings sunk in the abutting portion thereof each bushing having a screw adapted to be adjusted to engage the abutting portion of other member, whereby said bowl is supported in desired position with the adjusting screws concealed.
6. In a lavatory, the combination of a supporting member and a bowl member in abutting relationship and telescopically connected to conceal the point of abutment, one member having a plurality of spaced bushings sunk in the abutting portion thereof, each bushing having a screw adapted to be adjusted to engage the abutting portion of other member, whereby said bowl is supported in desired position with the adjusting screws concealed.
CARL H. ZWERMANN.
