Description

1934. E. SCHUTZE 1,970,476
SCRIBING OR MARKING DEVICE Filed Aug. 26. 1931 6 e d c Patented Aug. 14, 1934 SCRIBING OR MARKING DEVICE Eugen Schiitze, Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany Application August 26, 1931, Serial No. 559,538
In Germany August 28, 1930 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to a marking or scribing device for marking off machined or non-machined work pieces, the said marking or scribing device carrying several sliding blocks carrying the actual scribing needle heads.
This invention relates especially to the feature that each scribing needle is mounted for longitudinal movement in a sleeve which also contains a spring, and that the sleeve, needle, and spring are so constructed and arranged that the needle is prevented from turning, but is free to be projected longitudinally of its axis by the action of the spring.
The invention further consists of the feature, that the needle guiding heads are connected together in pairs by means of an adjusting screw in such a manner that each of the two scribing needles in relation to the other is vertically adjustable by means of adjusting screws, and that the sleeve containing a spring which accommodates said scribing needle is provided with an extension, which serves as a guide in the needle guiding head.
It is, by reason of this particular construction possible to scribe or mark simultaneously several marking lines even on tubular work pieces, a fact which represents a great improvement in comparison with the known scribing blocks of this type.
The drawing shows a constructional form of the scribing or marking off device, provided in this example for instance with two scribing needles.
Fig. 1 showing an elevation of the scribing device;
Fig. 2 showing a top view thereof and Fig. 3 a section through the arrangement of the spring.
Two scribing needle guide blocks 1) are slidably mounted on a pillar a provided with a base. One scribing needle 0 is mounted in each of the sleeves containing a compression spring 6 in such a manner as to be adapted to slide resiliently therein and longitudinally of its axis. Said needles are horizontally arranged as shown.
manipulation, simultaneously, two parallel lines on the work piece, as will be understood.
The needle guiding heads are slotted as shown and are kept upon the rod by clamp screws 1'.
Before the adjustment by screw (1 the clamp screws on both needle guiding heads are loosened so much that the needle guiding heads are just kept upon the rod, but give in to the pressure of the winding of the adjustment screw (1 and,
according to the turning of same, either approach or recede from each other.
It must be pointed out that the point e of each scribing needle is adapted to freely follow all rises or depressions present on the work piece, by reason of the resilient mounting of the scribing needle, without the marking lines being interrupted, provided the scriber block is manipulated or guided by hand.
I claim:
A scribing device for marking work pieces, comprising a vertical pillar, a pair of guide blocks slidably mounted on said pillar and each provided with means to secure it to the pillar against casual movement,
horizontally arranged ing the same, and means connecting the blocks together and arranged to adjust said blocks toward or from each other.
The needle is mounted so that it is prevented.
from turning by means of a pin g which operates in a groove h with which the sleeve is provided and is supported by means of the extension 1 of the spring sleeve e in the scribing needle guide block 'b. V
The adjusting screw or screw spindle d enables the desired distance between the needles to be adjusted and fixed, the scribing device thus being adapted to inscribe by means of the customary EUGEN sci-Iii'rzE.
